Identify the thesis

1- For each of the following limited subjects, four possible thesis statements are given. Indicate whether each is an announcement (A), a factual statement (FS), too broad a statement (TB) or an effective thesis (OK). Then, for each effective thesis, identify a possible purpose, audience and tone. Limited subject: The ethics of treating severely handicapped infants

Some babies born with severe handicaps have been allowed to die (TB) There are many serious issues involved in the treatment of handicapped newborns. (FS) The government should pass legislation requiring medical treatment for handicapped newborns (OK)

The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the need of a legislature which the government should pass to compensate the handicapped newborns. So the handicapped newborns can get a proper treatment and complete care. Audience includes everyone who is concerned about it. Most of the people will support this idea. The attitude conveyed to the audience, which is tone is very positive and formal. This essay will analyze the controversy surrounding the treatment of severely handicapped babies who would die without medical care (A)

Limited subject: Privacy and computerized records

Computers raise some significant and crucial questions for all of us (FS) Computerized records keep track of consumer spending habits, credit records, travel patterns and other personal information (OK)

The purpose of this thesis is to highlight how computers expose our privacy and how our records and personal data are being tracked through these computerized records. Everyone living in a modern society and using the modern technology and services will be interested in this thesis. The choice of words shows its a formal tone.

Computerized records have turned our private lives into public property (TB) In this paper, the relationship between computerized records and the right to privacy will be discussed (A)

Negative effects of minimum wage on young people:

Business surveys have found that the most common reason cited for why employers prefer not to hire young workers is their lack of basic numeracy and literacy skills and their perceived poor ethics so they pay them less if they hire them. The workload and the minimum wage affect them. Young people wish to get paid fairly for a days work. The pattern of this essay should be division and classification of this young group facing this problem and comparison of other peoples life who went through this phase.
