Heart O' the Hills


Heart of the Forest Trail begins at *oop + of the ,eart of the ,ills campground. Typical lo'land forest 'ith dense vegetation. # miles one 'ay.

Hurricane Ridge
Hurricane Hill Trail begins at the end of the ,urricane Ridge Road. In the 1.( miles to the top of the hill are mountain peak vistas, a vie' of -ort .ngeles, and the Strait of "uan de /uca. 0ildflo'ers are numerous in early summer. 0heelchair accessible first .( mile only. This portion is paved but 'ith steep drop1offs and no guard rail. Meadow Loop Trails begin near ,urricane Ridge 2isitor 3enter. They offer strolls through a typical subalpine environment, thick 'ith 'ildflo'ers in summer. 0atch for blacktailed deer !&4 N4T /++&5% and listen for the 'histle of the 4lympic marmot. Elwha

Madison Falls Trail 'anders through meado' and forest grove, then follo's 7adison 3reek through a cleft in the mountainside to splendid falls that cascade a hundred feet do'n basalt cliffs. The trail 'anders through a century of pioneer history, commencing near Smith<s timber claim and S'eet<s 3edarvale Resort, ending at 7atteson<s mining claim by the falls. 0.1 mile one 'ay. !easy%

Mo$ents in Ti$e Nature Trail is appro)imately a 1:# mile loop trail and offers nice vie's of the lake and 'inds through old1gro'th forest and former homestead sites. It is located bet'een 4lympic -ark Institute and *ake 3rescent *odge. . 1:= mile trail e)tends from Storm 6ing Ranger Station parking lot. Mary$ere Falls is a spectacular >0< 'aterfall ?ust one mile from *ake 3rescent. The trail leads through old gro'th forest 'ith flo'ering plants and mushrooms in season. !0heelchair first =:$ mile to 9arnes 3reek overlook only. /lat, loose graveled surface%. Mount Stor$ %ing Trail climbs steeply for 1.@ miles from the 7arymere /alls trail to a point on the ridge. Sol Duc 'rea


Sol Duc Falls is 0.8 miles from the end of the Sol &uc River Road through dense forest. Sol &uc /alls:*over<s *ane loop !via campground% is si) miles. The Lo(er's Lane section is rough and rocky. Min! La!e Trail begins at the Sol &uc Resort and climbs 1$00< in #.( miles through dense forest to the lake. Trout fishing. 'ncient "ro(es Nature Trail is a one1half mile loop through an old1gro'th forest and connects t'o roadside turnouts. /or your safety, return along the loop trail rather than the road.

O)ette 'rea
T'o trails to the coast begin at the end of the *ake 4Bette road. The #ape 'la(a Trail, the northern trail, is =.= miles. The southern trail, the Sand &oint Trail is =.0

Hoh Rain Forest


Hall of Mosses Trail is .@( mile round trip, beginning at the 2isitor 3enter at the end of the ,oh road. Nearby is the Spruce Nature Trail, 1.#( miles round trip. Short uneven grades on both trails. 9oth are e)cellent e)amples of rain forests 'ith dense lush vegetation. +lk and deer are sometimes seen in the area. There is also a paved .#( mile $ini trail.

%alaloch
Short beach trails lead from C.S. 101 to sections of beach. Ru,y +each is the northern most trail 'ith si) other trails to the south. +ach beach is distinct. Some offer tidepools and others clamming !in season and 'ith license%.

-ueets
The Sa$s Ri(er Loop Trail is three miles in length and can be started at the Dueets Ranger Station or the trailhead one mile east of the station. The trail passes both the Dueets and Sams Rivers as 'ell as through former homestead meado's. +lk are often seen early morning or late evening in the meado's.
