Exemptions
A student is exempt from the requirement to have a formal English Language qualication if s/he has studied for a rst degree in the English language medium, or has passed one of the following: 2 GCE A Levels validated in the UK IB Diploma taught in English ABE Advanced Diploma NCC Advanced Diploma

Formal English Language Tests


The University accepts the following qualications as satisfying the English Language requirements for entry to a Bachelor or Masters degree*: European Qualications TOEFL 550 / 213 / 80 IELTS (Minimum scores: 6.0 overall and at least 5.5 for each: listening / reading / speaking / writing) TOEIC (Minimum scores: listening: 400 / reading: 385 / speaking: 160 / writing: 150) JMB University Test: Minimum Pass Cambridge Certicate of Prociency in English: Minimum Grade C Cambridge Certicate of Advanced English: Minimum Grade C GCSE or IGCSE English Language: Minimum C BEC Higher: Pass (grades A,B or C) English for Business Communication (C and G) - Level 2 First Class Pass LCCI International Qualications - * English for Business (EFB) - Pass at Level 3, * English for Commerce (EFC) - Pass at Level 3 Cambridge Overseas School Certicate: Minimum Grade C Scottish Certicate of Education Standard Grade English: Minimum Grade C Scottish Certicate of Education - Higher Grade English: Minimum Grade D Irish Leaving Certicate - Ordinary Level English: Minimum Grade C Irish Leaving Certicate - Higher Level English: Minimum Grade D Oxford High Level Certicate: Minimum Pass Warwick English Language Test (WELT): Minimum CCC Certicate of Attainment in English (Edexcel): Minimum Level 4 Anglia Certicate of English as a Foreign Language Prociency TEEP (University of Reading) 6.0 Integrated Skills Test in English (ISE): Level III or above Trinity College of London ISE: Level III or IV University of Central Lancashire Certicate of Prociency in English Level 3 - Procient User Pass Swansea University English test (SWELT) - Minimum Grade 6.0

UCL Graduate Preparatory Course - 6.0 or above London Test of English - Advanced Level 4 Slovakia: Maturita Grade 1 at B2 level Norway: Vitnemal Grade 4 Overseas Qualications Caribbean Examination Council General Prociency (CxC): grade I, II or III APIEL Advanced Placement International English Language 4 or above Michigan Examination of Prociency in English (ECPE) Pass Michigan (MELAB) - 80 Cameroon GCE O Level: Minimum Grade C East African Certicate of Education: Minimum Grade C Hong Kong Use of English Test: Minimum Grade C Hong Kong Certicate of Education (HKCEE): Minimum Grade C Standard X and XII - 60 % in English: obtained in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh Students applying for a Masters degree who have studied for their degree in India, Pakistan or Bangladesh in the medium of English are classed as meeting our English requirements Kenyan Certicate of Secondary Education (KCSE): Minimum Grade C Malaysian SPM 1119 Syllabus (UCLES): Minimum Grade C Singapore GCE O Level: Minimum Grade C Sri Lanka GCE O Level: Minimum Credit Uganda Certicate of Education: Minimum Grade 6 West African Examinations Council School Certicate (WAEC SSCS): Minimum Grade C/6 Zambian Secondary School Certicate: Minimum Grade 6 Summer Intensive Courses If your English language test score narrowly misses the minimum standard you may still be offered a place on your course provided that you attend our 6 or 12 week Summer Intensive English language course as follows: A student with IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent) who takes an 12 week intensive summer course, may progress directly to the substantive degree programme on successful completion of that course. A student with IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) who takes a 6 week intensive summer course, may progress directly to the substantive degree programme on successful completion of that course * note; there are a few courses that require higher levels of English these will be specied.
