III. Unpacking the Main body


(How to bring down the machine onto the floor)
1. The task should always be performed by two or more people. 2. Lift the main body by hand to remove the cushion. Caution: Perform the process mentioned above one side at a time.

3. Fix the veneer with the nail at the top end face of the pallet, setting its beveled portion upward.

II. Pre-installation Check Items


1. Select a level and stable place for installing the machine. 2. Be sure to use a power source of the voltage and frequency indicated in the product specifications. Ensure that the current carrying capacity of the power outlet is at least equal to the current listed in the product specifications. 3. Power the machine directly from a dedicated power outlet. (Do not use an extension cord.) 4. Do not plug or unplug the power cord with wet or dirty hands, otherwise you may get an electric shock. 5. Avoid a hot and humid environment, or a place exposed to direct sunlight. 6. Avoid a dusty location, or a place near volatile and flammable substances. 7. Avoid a poorly ventilated place.

4. Set the two cushions (rear) removed from the machine, below the veneer as illustrated below.

5. Bring down the machine carefully on the floor by two persons.

V. Installation Procedure
Note: Release all locks, and do not plug the power cord into the outlet until you are instructed to do so. 1. Inspect the outward of the Main body. 2. Remove the bagged material included in the package and the wrapping sheet on the top. 3. Remove the locking tapes put on the exterior panels. Note: Locking guide tapes indicate the portions to be unlocked; those tapes should be removed after the completion of each unlocking procedure.

4. Remove accessories from inside trays 2 and 3, and all tray locking tapes. Remove the lock guide tape last. Note: When removing accessories from inside trays 2 and 3, be careful not to damage the black PET.

5. Remove the optics unit locking screw on the left side of the Main body.

(3) Loosen the one screw of the fan cover to open it.

6. Open the toner supply unit and the front door of the Main body. (1) Open the front door of the Main body.

7. Release the ADU lock. (1) Remove the two screws of the ADU lock bracket (bottom left).

(2) Loosen the single screw of the toner supply unit locking area, push the locking material to the left and open the toner supply unit.

(2) Remove one ADU lock bracket screw (top).

(3) Remove two ADU lock bracket screws (bottom right).

(6) Pull out the ADU unit. (7) Remove the locking tape from Lever 9, and remove the ADU locking bracket (upper). (2 screws)

(4) Set the toner supply unit stopper as shown in the figure. (8) Open reversal section (No.11) and push lever 9 to the side to remove the locking tapes placed on the fixing protection material. Remove the fixing protection material.

(5) Push the ADU lock up to release it, and turn the ADU release lever to the left.

(9) Remove the locking tapes and the protector paper.

(2) Remove the developing unit support part (2 places) (screws: 3 pcs. each).

(10) Remove the locking tape from the right-hand side of the ADU unit. Remove the spacer.

(3) Remove the locking tape from the toner loading the developing unit. Note: Be careful not to touch the sleeve when removing the developing unit.

(11) Bring the reversal section (No.11) to the original position. (12) Set the ADU unit to the main body. (13) Turn the ADU release lever to the right and lock it. 8. Set the developing unit. (1) Return the left and right levers of the process unit to the front and pull them toward you.

(4) Install the developing units in the order YMCK (from the top) in the main body. To install, insert each developing unit on the left side first and then set the right side. Note: Do NOT touch the Teflon sheet on the upper cover of the developing unit with your hands or any object when handling the unit.

(5) Install the developing unit support part (2 places) (screws: 3 pcs. each). To install, insert the bottom of the developing unit support part and tighten with the screws.

(6) Connect the connectors on the process unit to the YMCK developing units. Remove the process unit connector from the wire bundle holder before connecting.

9. Remove the drum blade pressure release screw for each color. Note: Do not touch drum surface. Do not damage drum surface. Return the drum to the position it was in before it was removed. (1) Remove the drum from the process unit.

(3) Install the drum in the original position.

(2) Remove the drum blade pressure release screws (front/back: 1 red screw each). (YMCK processing)

10. Install the transfer unit. (1) Loosen the two screws of the transfer unit fixing materials (top/bottom). There are two screws in the top piece, and two screws in the lower piece. Turn the transfer unit fixing materials counterclockwise to remove.

(2) Return the process unit to the Main body. (It is not necessary to lock it) Note: Do not expose the drum to light for a long time. (3) Remove the transfer unit stand behind the toner supply unit.

(6) Remove the two lock screws. Note: The left and right lock screws are different lengths, so pay attention when reattaching them if you move them.

(4) Remove the transfer unit from the box. Note: When removing the transfer unit from the box, never hold it at the positions shown in the figure. When taking it out of the bag, be careful not to touch the belt.

(7) Remove the transfer unit protection cover.

(5) Stand the transfer unit up using the transfer unit stand.

(8) Remove the 1st transfer roller locking material (front and rear 6 places: 1 screw each).

(10) Apply setting powder on the surface of the belt between the belt driving roller and the separation claw unit.

(9) Install the separation claw unit. Place the claw unit into the slit in the bottom right of the transfer unit, and screw the unit in while aligning it with the left projection. (TP screw M3x6: 1 pc.). Note: Be careful not to damage the belt.

(11) Install the belt cleaner unit by aligning it with the angle of the top grooves of the transfer unit (TP screw M3x6: 2 pcs.).

(12) Rotate the belt driving coupling in the direction shown in the figure to brush setting powder off.

(13) Pull out the process unit again. (14) Press the portion marked with an arrow to confirm that the drum cartridge is correctly set. Note: Incorrect setting of the drum can damage the drum when installing the transfer unit.

(16) Set the transfer unit with the surface of its belt facing the drum side. Position the unit obliquely, as shown in the figure, and move it into place from the rear, then align it so that the pins of the transfer unit are engaged by the hooks (4 places) in the front and rear. Note: Be careful not to hit the drum with the transfer unit.

(15) Remove the transfer unit stand, pull the handle on the top of the transfer unit, and lift the belt. Note: Return the transfer unit stand to the original position.

(17) After installing the transfer unit, return the handle back to the original position.

(18) Turn the transfer unit fixing material in the direction of the arrow until it reaches the screws, and secure it with screws (2 screws each).

(2) Align the holes of the developer charging plate to the developer charging plate fixing screws, and slide it to the right to secure it.

(19) Push the process unit all the way (until it clicks), and bring the left and right levers to their original positions. 11. Slide the rear cover/2 to install it onto the rear of the main body, and secure the cover with the two supplied screws.

12. Set the developer. Note: Set developers in the order YMCK (from the top of the developing unit). (1) Remove the developer charging plate set on the back of the toner supply unit, and then remove the developer charging funnel / L.

(3) Set the developer charging funnel / L to the toner loading slot of the developing unit. Place it on top of the developer charging plate as shown in the figure.

(4) Take the supplied developer charging funnel / U out of the developer package for each color. Unfold the developer charging funnel / U, then set it onto the developer charging funnel / L. Note: When opening the developer charging funnel/U, bend it outward against the inclination to flatten it.

Operation Press the arrow key and press the M (magenta) key. Pour in the developer in the same manner as for yellow. Note: Change the developer charging funnel / U for each color. Pour in the cyan and black developers in the same manner. Leave the machine in [36 Mode Menu ] (do not turn the power OFF).

Note: When removing the developer charging plate from the main body, lift the right side of the stopper plate, and slide the developer charging plate to the left side to remove it.

(5) Plug the power cord into the outlet. (6) Set the developer. Step 1. 2. Operation Turn ON the main power switch. Turn ON the sub power while pressing [3] and [6] on the numeric keypads to start [36 mode menu]. [36 Mode Menu screen] Press [1] Process adjustment key. [Process Adjustment Menu screen] Press [2] Drum peculiarity adjustment key. [Drum Peculiarity Adjustment Menu screen] Press [5] Automatic developer charge key. Check if the screen shows [Y] If the yellow developer is ready, press the [START] key. Pour in the developer. 2. 13. Return the developer charging funnel / L and the developer charging plate to the original position. 14. Bring the toner supply unit stopper to the original position. 15. Tighten the screws on the fan cover. 16. Close the toner supply unit, and tighten the toner supply unit lock screw. 17. Close the front door of the main body. Important: Be sure to conduct the following adjustments and settings. 18. L detect initial auto adjustment Step 1. Operation In the [Automatic developer charge], press the NEXT ADJUSTMENT key to choose the L detect initial auto adj. ALL screen. Press the [START] key. The developer motor will turn, and the adjustment will complete automatically. Leave the machine in [36 Mode Menu] (do not turn the power OFF).

After the developer is completely poured in, press the CANCEL key.

19. Blade setting mode Step 1. 2. Operation Press the NEXT ADJUSTMENT key twice to select Blade setting mode. Press the [START] key. Message changes from Conditioning to Complete has finished. Leave the machine in [36 Mode Menu] (do not turn the power OFF).

22. Set the toner bottles. (1) Hold the toner bottle vertically, shake it up and down, and remove the cap.

(2) Open the toner supply unit external door on the right side of the main body. (3) Open the toner supply unit interior door for the appropriate color, and push the toner bottle to be set, making sure the side with the triangle mark is on top.

21. Non-image area erase check Step 1. Operation Press the PREVIOUS SCREEN key to return to the [Image Adjustment Menu screen]. [Image Adjustment Menu screen] Press [5] Non-image area erase check key. Note: Open fully the CV-131/OC-2 /ADF. (When CV-131/OC-2/ADF are installed previously.) Do NOT place a document on the document glass. Clean the document glass if dirty. Press the [START] key. After the adjustment, if any message other than The machine is set to appropriate parameters for the Non-image-area-erase is displayed, follow the instructions that accompany the message. If a fluorescent light or other bright light sources exist right above the main body, the light source can hinder installation checking and cause operation errors in the Non-image Area Erase Check. To prevent this, review the place and direction of installation, or take measures to block the light source (by covering it, etc.), then perform installation checking again. For detailed information, refer to the Adjustments section in the Service Handbook. (4) Close the toner supply unit internal door. (5) Set the remaining three color bottles in the same manner as above. (6) Close the toner supply unit external door. (7) Turn the sub power switch OFF. 23. Various settings (1) Setting date input Step 1. 2. 3. Operation Turn ON the sub power switch while pressing [2] and [5 ] on the numeric keypads. [25 Mode Menu screen] Select [12] Setting date input [Setting Date Input Menu screen] Input the proper date using the numeric keypad on the screen. [ For North America ] It cycles through month/day/year every time the SET key is pressed. [ For Europe ] It cycles through day/month/year/ every time the SET key is pressed.

Operation Be sure to press the OK key. The date will be updated to the current date. Leave the machine in [25 Mode Menu] (do not turn the power OFF).

25. Insert and install the CV-131/OC-2 (optional) to the hinge hole on the top of the main body. Note: When installing the optional ADF, see the ADF installation procedure.

(2) Telephone number setting Step 1. Operation [25 Mode Menu screen] Select [7] Telephone number setting menu screen [TEL/FAX Number Setting Menu screen] Select telephone number. Input numbers using the numeric keypad on the screen. Input numbers. (16 digits) Select Fax number. Input numbers using the numeric keypad on the screen. Input numbers. (16 digits) Be sure to press the OK key. Turn the sub power switch OFF. 26. Install the paper exit tray (optional) and manual holder on the left side of the main body. Note: The manual holder can also be installed on the optional Finisher.

Press the Date & Time setting key. Set date and time using the numeric keypad on the screen. [ For North America ] It cycles through month/day/year/time every time the SET key is pressed. [ For Europe ] It cycles through day/month/year/time every time the SET key is pressed. Be sure to press the OK key. The date will be updated to the current date.

28. Install the working table. (1) Use a wire cutter or other tool to snip the working table installation part on top of the main bodys right side (2 places).

3. Lift the control panel, pull forward the lock tabs (2) inside the control panel support part to release the lock, and remove the control panel support part.

(2) Tighten two screws to install the working table.

4. Push the control panel pressing members toward the back to lower the control panel to the bottom level.

VI. Operation panel angle change (Standard 7 degrees / optional 18 degrees)


Note: Change the angle of the control panel only if a customer makes such a request. 1. Open the front door and the toner supply unit external door. 2. Remove the control panel fixing screws (2 pcs.).
