Summary: This Journal is more on detecting post partum depression experience by a mother 2-3 days after giving birth. Postpartum depression is a mood disorder affecting new mothers. It uses screening test which is The Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). This screening test is a 10 item, self-administered questionnaire that has been shown predict postpartum disorder (PPD). Nursing Implication to Education: As a student health care provider, Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EDPS) is new to me; this journal helps me identify more feasible screening measure in detecting Postpartum Depression (PPD). This test can help the health care providers to know if their patient is experiencing this PPD for further health management. In this case, the patient can also lessen this mood disorder by giving some time to take good care to her baby, and emphasize to the significant others especially the husband, the importance of his presence. Nursing Implication to Practice: As a student health care provider, I should emphasize to the family the importance of supporting a mother after giving birth. Health care providers should also maximize the optimum support in giving care to the mother and her baby. This journal alone helps me identify new screening test for PPD. New skills were being incarnated to me by reading more about this test in the internet. Detecting PPD is not that easy because it often goes unrecognized to some mothers. Nursing Implication to Research: Postpartum depression is the most common complication of childbearing. The 10-item questions Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) is a valuable and efficient way of identifying patients at risk for perinatal depression. EPDS is easy to administer and has proven to be an effective screening tool for PPD. Reaction: I agree about this journal because it benefits both the health care providers and the mother. This screening test should be implemented to hospital institutions because it helps us how to detect post partum depression to increase the self esteem of mothers after giving birth. In preventing PPD, support is very much concern because mothers after giving birth feels so alone which sometimes lead them for over thinking.
