Jamaican Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington expressed his satisfaction at the guilty verdict handed down by the jurors. The guilty verdict is a victory for law and order, it is a decisive statement for justice and it is a victory for an acceptable public morality, Ellington said. Meanwhile, the Police arrested a male juror who attempted to bribe the foreman of the panel. News broke minutes before the afternoon sitting that a bribe attempt had been made. The foreman rejected the offer and made a report.

Lead attorney for Kartel, Tom TavaresFinson has signaled his intention to appeal the guilty verdict against his client. Tavares-Finson said that while the defense team accepted the ruling of the jury, an appeal was imminent.

Nevertheless, de Blasio should consider that 93 percent of chartered school students in the city are Blacks and Latinos and majority of these students are in the top 1 percent in math and 7 percent in reading and writing in New York State. It would appear that de Blasio move to boot chartered schools from city buildings is illogical and not in the interests of the people he vowed to serve. Governor Andrew Cuomo is on the right tract by promising to pay the rent of chartered schools denied space under the crackdown by Mayor de Blasio. The governor also pledged to support legislation that would give charters extra money to lease new facilities if they get the boot from city buildings. We need to fix the education system in New York City, but removing chartered school from city buildings is not a smart solution.

aking decisions is a central part of leadership. Even when a leader uses a laissez-faire leadership style, the leader remains responsible for making many decisions such as the nature of the goals that followers should pursue and the type of leadership style that is appropriate for the situation. Followers often look to leaders to make decisions, particularly if they have difficulty envisioning the specific tasks that are required to achieve a goal. Because of the importance of decision making to leadership, you should understand how to approach decision-making. To make better decisions, you should understand that decision-making is a process involving a sequential series of steps that are often considered part of the critical thinking process. These steps are identifying the problem; analyze the possible solutions to the problem; evaluate which of the possible solutions will be most effective and select and implement the solution. These steps give you a structured framework to improve the quality of your decisions. The first three steps focus on collecting information that is useful when making a decision. The way leaders as decision makers collect the information often depend on their leadership style and the situation. For example, the autocratic leader may be comfortable with personally collecting the information, while a participative leader may be comfortable relying on the information provided by others. Identifying a problem requires that you understand that a problem exists and can recognize the root cause of the problem. While it is often easy to recognize the symptoms of a problem, the actual cause of the problem may not be immediately apparent. As a result, a good leader carefully evaluates the nature of the problem before considering the possible solutions. All problems have more than one possible solution. Effective decision-making requires identifying the range of possible

ROME: ttorney General Eric T. Schneiderman recently announced the settlement of an investigation by his office against Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located in Rome, NY, for discrimination on the basis of race against African-American employees. Betsy Ross is a private, forprofit, 120-bed nursing home facility that provides long-term care, rehabilitative services and other treatment to senior citizens. Attorney General Schneidermans office opened an investigation after receiving multiple complaints about discrimination in the assignments of AfricanAmerican nurses at the nursing home. Specifically, the complaints alleged that the nursing home accommodated the racially discriminatory preferences of a patient who did not want to be seen or treated by African-American nurses. The nursing home responded by reassigning all African-American nurses to another unit of the facility, barring AfricanAmerican employees from working in the unit, and posting an order that read No Colored Nurses in the unit.
East Haven: lfred J. Cronk, 55, East Haven, Connecticut, a former attorney, was arrested and charged with stealing more than $18,000 of the proceeds from the sale of a house owned by an estate he was retained to represent. The defendant was charged with one count of Larceny in the Second Degree, a class C felony carrying a maximum prison sentence of ten years. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Cronk arranged for the sale of the home of a deceased East Haven woman whose estate he was retained to represent. The proceeds from the sale were deposited into the attorneys trustee account from which he misappropriated more than $18,000, the warrant alleges. According to the warrant, Cronk surrendered his license to practice law in May 2013, following an investigation of complaints brought against him by other individuals to the state Judicial Branchs Disciplinary Counsel for lawyers. Cronk was released after posting a $20,000 non-surety bond and will be arraigned in New Haven Superior Court, G.A. No. 23, on March 25, 2014. The charges are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The case is being prosecuted by the Statewide Prosecution Bureau in the Chief States Attorneys Office in Rocky Hill.

The fact that nearly 50 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, some New Yorkers are still subject to racial discrimination at work or anywhere is shocking and unacceptable, Attorney General Schneiderman said. Sadly, this case demonstrates that racism is still alive, and that we must be aggressive and unwavering in rooting out racial discrimination by employers. Marc Morial, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Urban League, said, Each day, we are confronted with bitter reminders of ongoing discrimination faced by African American and other underserved communities in the workplace. I applaud the Attorney Generals Office for enforcing our anti-discrimination laws and taking steps to ensure that all employees are treated equally, regardless of race. Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the New York State Human Rights Law, it is unlawful to discriminate against employees based on race. Betsy Ross has agreed to implement new policies and reforms to protect the rights of employees and to ensure a nondiscriminatory environment for all employees going forward.
MOUNT VERNON: n off-duty Mount Vernon Firefighter and his wife face robbery and assault charges in an attack on a pregnant woman that occurred during a dispute over the title to a vehicle. Charles Clayton, 38 and his wife Lashea Clayton, 35 of 75 Barket Kennel Road in Pleasant Valley are accused of accosting a 32-year-old woman on the 400 block of South 1st Avenue shortly before 7 Wednesday night in an attempt to get her to relinquish the title to her vehicle. The vehicle is registered to the victim, however there is a conflict over its ownership between the victim and an imprisoned member of the Clayton family. Lashea Clayton is alleged to have physically attacked the woman while Charles Clayton reportedly took her purse and other items. Two of the victims young children were present during the incident. The victims mother, an off-duty Corrections Officer was also present and intervened, detaining the suspects until Mount Vernon Police Officers arrived at the scene. The victim who is seven months pregnant was taken to Lawrence Hospital with bruises and abrasions as well as abdominal pain. Both of the Claytons were charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, a felony, 3rd Degree Assault a misdemeanor and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor. The charges may be upgraded pending examination of the unborn child.
Charles Clayton, who has been with the Mount Vernon Fire Department for six years, has been arrested eight times since 1996 and two of the arrests were for felony charges. He has been arrested once since becoming a firefighter on the misdemeanor charge of Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest occurred in 2011 and he pled guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, a traffic infraction. All of his arrests occurred in Mount Vernon, Port Chester and the Bronx and include charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Bail Jumping and Resisting Arrest, Including the 2011 incident. Charles Clayton has been convicted twice of Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, a traffic infraction. By Joseph Guyler Delva LES CAYES, Haiti (HCNN) -Haitian investigative judge promised on Thursday to issue, within the coming weeks, his report on the case of 9 of the 20 Jamaicans held in Haiti on drug and gun trafficking charges, as the investigation into the case comes to an end. Judge Frantz Badette said he has already completed his inquiry into the cases involving Roy Prince, Richard Winston and Gary Williams, and promised to issue his report on those cases by the end of this month, while he continues to work on six other cases. "I would like to say that we are working on the cases regarding the Jamaicans and I will issue my report on three of them in about two weeks," Badette told HCNN on Thursday, as he sat in his investigating room at the Judicial Palace in the southern town of Les Cayes. Badette is also investigating accusations of drug trafficking against Linval Samuels, Tuckre Augustus, Ethniel Williams, Dennis Michael, Romaine Brown and Glenval Hall.

"We are moving forward with these six other cases. We have a few more interrogations to carry out and I should conclude the investigation in less than a month," Badette told HCNN. The judge's JUDGE FRANTZ BADETTE report will determine who should be released for lack of evidence and who should be tried. The investigating judge is forbidden by law to reveal or discuss publicly the findings of his investigation before the conclusion of the inquiry, but other judicial sources told HCNN that some of the Jamaican suspects, who were caught in possession of narcotics, will be sent before a criminal court to be tried. The remaining 11 cases were distributed to other judges or were submitted to judges whose term has, in the meantime, expired -- which has caused scores of investigations to stall, according to several judicial sources.

Bowling the final over, Jade Derbach held his nerve. And so too did England who clipped the West Indies by 5-runs in a nailbiting 3rd and final T20 International at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday. The victory was a morale boosting one for the tourists who lost the series 12 to the home team West Indies. But the best was left for the last. England started like a cannon with Michael Lumb smashing a career best T20 score of 63, and in tandem with Alex Hales 38, gave England a perfect start. But after Lumb and Hales were dismissed, England experienced a wobble in the middle of the batting order, before Barbadian born Chris Jordan smashed 27 not out, including 4 sixes off the final over delivered by the talismanic Dwayne "Johnny" Bravo. England ended on 165-6 off their 20-overs. Krishmar Santokie claimed 2-27 and Sheldon Cottrell 2-37. The Windies got off to a poor start, losing Dwayne Smith who was bowled off the first delivery. Marlon Samuels struck some lofty blows for boundaries but didn't last long. Then Lendl Simmons took over and scored 69, taking the West Indies within touching distance of victory before it fell short in the final over bowled by Jade Derbach. Denesh Ramdin made 33 against Jordan 3-39 and Ravi Bopara 2-28. England's Jordan was named man of the match, while West Indies test and T20 captain Darren Sammy was named player of the series. The teams will now head to Bangladesh for the World T20 Championship which starts next week.

It actually doesn't come as a surprise to many in our community because these incidents occur too regularly. What is shocking perhaps is that this didn't take place in the middle of the night in a known 'hot spot' for violence, but rather in a treelined working class neighborhood, on a block where parents were dropping their children off to school, seniors were heading to daily mass and church, and commuters were on their way to work. Doodu Boy is the harrowing, but hilarious autobiographical story of Stefhen Bryan's struggle across three continents to find unconditional love in the face of an absent father and overzealous mother. The story begins with his frightening childhood in a Jamaican ghetto on a church commune, where he falls into the neighborhood cesspool and earns his nickname: Doodu Boy. He soon escapes to America where he's long dreamt of road trips with his father, but life never seems to fulfill those hopes. After multiple attempts on his own life, learning the shocking truth of his origins, and a show-down with an NYPD armada as he attempts to connect with his father, he ultimately leaves the West to begin a rebirth in Japan. There, in the midst of a sexual rampage, he meets a girl who promises the beginnings of the deep connection that he's always wanted. Stefhen Bryan is the author of the critically acclaimed Black Passenger Yellow Cabs: A Memoir of Exille and Excess in Japan and the recently publishing novel Only Begotten. He currently lives in Kobe and Los Angeles with his wife, who is translating Doodu Boy to Japanese, for performance in Japan.

has assisted law enforcement in curbing gun violence. It is time now to expand the model that Mayor Bloomberg and Speaker Quinn helped established and duplicate these programs in other precincts where gun violence flourishes. If an organization like Man Up! can take a few blocks in East New York and employ programming that helps zero out gun violence for nearly an entire year, then our City discussion shouldn't be centered on Stop & Frisk. Rather than debating tactics that clearly don't work, we should be racing to duplicate the work of groups like Man Up!, YO SOS and LIFE Camp.
Jared Scheib is the dramaturge and director of Doodu Boy, his second play after Wrestles with Machista. He recently completed the festival run for his first feature documentary film, The Mayor, and is in post-production on his second, tentatively titled Love Potatoes. His commercial, Do You Believe in a Secular America, won the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Sciences social media contest.

Mathieu Eugene Council Member determine the participants of the program. Specialized programming is available for disabled, foster care, runaway/homeless and justice-involved youth. Councilmember Eugene strongly encourages all youth who are eligible for SYEP to apply. I consider SYEP to be a very important program that the City provides to our youth. Developing work and social skills at an early age lays down a strong foundation for our young people and helps them develop the work ethic, self-esteem and character that will enable them to succeed in all endeavors they aspire to in the future. Having once run an organization that provided recreational opportunities for underprivileged children in Brooklyn, I understand how important SYEP is for the continued growth and development of our youth, said Councilmember Eugene. By Vance Stevens, eHow Contributor arbershops are a social experience. A barber is responsible for more than just buzz-cuts and clean shaves. Successful barbers must be able to hold a relevant conversation, to tell a funny joke and to deal comfortably with people. WASHINGTON he IRS reminded taxpayers the Presidents Day holiday period typically marks one of the busiest weeks of the tax filing season for its phone lines. There are other alternatives to help taxpayers find answers to commonly asked tax questions. The Internal Revenue Service has several easy-to-use, online tools on IRS.gov. Taxpayers can check the status of their refund, request a copy of their tax transcript or get an answer to their tax questions around the clock. The entire week of the Presidents Day holiday marks a peak time in the number of calls to the IRS, and we encourage taxpayers to visit IRS.gov as the best place to get quick help, said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. Due to limited resources, the IRS has changed the services provided at the tollfree telephone number and IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers. To save time and find answers faster, taxpayers should make IRS.gov their first stop. A good place to start is 1040 Central for a quick overview. The IRS Services Guide also provides a list of resources. Here are some of the most common reasons people call us over Presidents Day holiday week and the faster and easier ways to get answers: Want to know where your refund is? Didnt get a W-2? Employers are required to send to their employees a Form W-2, Statement of Earnings, by January 31. Employees should allow enough time for their form to be mailed to their address of record. If form W-2 is not received by midFebruary, employees should first contact their employer to ensure they have the correct address on file. After exhausting all options with the employer, employees may contact the IRS and we will send a letter to the employer. However, we would urge you to call after Presidents Day week to avoid long wait times on the telephone.

Dear Divine Diva: even years ago, my husband, "John," had an affair that resulted in the birth of a child. Although it was difficult, John and I stayed together and our marriage is better than ever. My husband supports "Talia" financially and sees her whenever he can. The adults have all managed to create a cor-dial, working relationship for Talia's sake. Talia spends a few weeks with us during school breaks. When I go out with her and run into acquaintances, they'll ask, "Who's this?" I will give her name, but sometimes
: Some of my close friends, "Tanya" and "Paul" are in the middle of a very bitter divorce. I like both of them and would like to remain friends with them-- but how can I comfort and support one of them without seeming like a traitor to the other one, and Tanya has already gotten upset with me for talking to Paul. What should I do?
they press for more. Many of our friends know we've been married for a long time with only one child together. (Our daughter is in college.) My question is -- is Talia my step-daughter? Is there a simple way of answer-ing these questions without making any-one uncomfortable, especially Talia? -Part-Time Mommy Dear Part-Time Mommy: Yes. Talia is your stepdaughter, and you can introduce her that way or refer to her as John's daughter. Either would be correct.
: I think you have two choices-You can stop speaking to the both of them until the divorce is final or you can tell Tanya that you prefer to remain neutral because you care about both of them.
1. Know your man. Know what he likes, because that is what helps a relationship. Also, all this depends on what type of guy he is and what type of girl you are.
5. Be flirty. It has been said that all boys think about sex. Well not all the time, but its kinda true. So understand this and be flirty and sexy but do not do anything youre not ready for. I cannot express that enough. Maybe show a little more skin. That doesn't mean taking naked pictures of yourself, it means, wear a skirt, or undo a button for your shirt.
4. Be happy. No one likes depressing people. Just be happy that youre with him and show it, it will make him feel special and happy.
3. Let him have his own time alone for you. When you're not there, he'll end up thinking about you more. He'll wonder what you're doing, who you're with, and whether you are thinking of him. This makes him love you more.
2. Let him have alone time with you. Privacy is golden, as it gives you and him a chance to talk and just closer.
9. Tell him he's handsome (if you mean it). Not saying you should follow these steps but hey, it wont hurt if you try. Until then be happy with your man.
8. Listen to him, especially if he feels badly or if he needs your support. Don't shut him out or make him feel like he can't talk to you or be open with you.
7. Remember his birthday, your anniversary, things like that, that will let him know he is special to you.
6. Don't flirt with other guys. This can be perceived as emotional cheating; your boyfriend might not feel that he's enough for you or particularly special to you.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): It's time to tap into your intuition and pay attention to feelings that can enliven your ambitions and projects. This is also a good time to enjoy the people in your life and perhaps make entertainment, party, or other fun plans. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): A meeting that has the potential for romance could be on your mind over the days ahead. However, this could be a case of fact versus fantasy, as you may be reading more into a situation than is really there. The Sun in intuitive Pisces links into your sixth sense, so pay attention to your gut reaction and take it from there. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): The loving feelings you have for your partner or sweetheart may boost your desire to shop this week, especially if you're intending to buy them something special. It might be time to celebrate as Jupiter moves ahead once again after its retrograde phase. You can consider these two phases as similar to pulling back the bowstring before shooting an arrow. Now you have all the power, insight, and information you need to take aim and hit the center of the target. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Take care of matters close to your heart, as a focus on relationships spotlights insightful opportunities to improve your love life. Passions may be muted and your fiery charisma could give way to a sensitive appreciation of the folks around you. Your appreciation of other people's quirks and unique traits could be pleasantly enhanced once Venus enters Aquarius. Jupiter's presence in Cancer spotlights a desire to ease off the accelerator if you're involved in a budding relationship. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22Jan. 19): Life on the home front could be prone to disruptions, which might mean you feel generally unsettled. Currently, over 33.4 million people in the world are infected with HIV or have AIDS. AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, is the final stage of the HIV disease. The median survival time for someone infected with AIDS is approximately 6 to 9 months. There is no cure for HIV or AIDS. That means prevention is the most important step in protecting your health. ing food with them, using the bathroom after them or shaking their hands. HIV is only transmitted through certain bodily fluids carried by an infected person. Know how infection is transmitted. There are, however, certain bodily fluids that can lead to HIV infection. They are: blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, breast milk and vaginal fluid. Any exposure to these fluids could result in acquiring HIV. Understand the prognosis. Once someone tests HIV+, there is no cure. Modern medicine has been able to slow down the development of AIDS and help HIV+ patients live relatively comfortable lives, but the virus will never leave the person's body.
