Installation and Configuration 1. Rack Mount the nodes. 2.

On each node connect the internal cluster network Connect the int-a port to the network switch supporting the Internal A network. Connect the int-b port to the network switch supporting the Internal B network. 3. On each node connect the external client network Connect the External 1 port on the node to the switch supporting the external network. Connect the External 2 port to the switch supporting the second external network. 4. Connect the power supply Connect the power supply cables to the power connectors on the back panel of the node. Connect each power supply cable to a separate power source. Press the power switch on the node back panel to power on the node. 5. Configure the node a. Configure the Cluster Connect a null modem serial cable to the serial port of a local computer, such as a laptop. Connect the other end of the serial cable to the serial port on\ the back panel of the node. Launch a serial communication utility such Minicom (UNIX) or HyperTerminal (Windows). Configure the connection utility to use the following port settings:
Setting Transfer rate Data bits Parity Stop bits Value 115,200 bps 8 None 1

Password for the administrator user. SupportIQ allows Isilon Technical Support to remotely monitor a cluster, run scripts, and download information to assist in troubleshooting cluster issues. Name used to identify the cluster Character encoding for the cluster. The default character encoding is UTF-8. Network settings used by the int-a network. The inta network is used for communication between cluster nodes. The int-a network must be configured using IPv4. Network settings used by the optional int-b/failover network. The int-b network is used for communication between cluster nodes and provides redundancy with the int-a network. The int-b network must be configured using IPv4. The failover IP range is a virtual IP range that is resolved to either one of the active ports during failover. The network settings used by the ext-1 network. The ext-1 network is used by clients to access data stored on the cluster. The default ext-1 network must initially be configured using IPv4. Description SmartConnect is a client connection balancing management module that enables client connections to be balanced across all nodes within an Isilon IQ cluster or across selected nodes. (Select Round Robin) DNS settings for the cluster. Use a comma-separated list to specify multiple DNS servers or search domains.

Day and time settings for the cluster. Method used by the cluster uses to add new nodes. Choose one of the following options: Manual join Allows either the existing cluster or a new node to issue a request to join the cluster. Secure join A configured node in the existing cluster must invite a new unconfigured node to join the cluster.

7. Run the Onsite Verification Test (OVT) Open a serial or SSH connection to Node 1 of the cluster. Run OVT. isi_ovt_check Mail the log files to Isilon. Mail from Cluster isi_ovt_check -maillast Create a Tart file and mail cd /ifs/.ifsvar/ovt tar cvf <customer_name>.tar /ifs/.ifsvar/ovt If OVT is not completed send the crash dump tar cvf <customer_name>.tar /var/crash/ovt*
