Commonly Used Hospital Abbreviations

Isadore Weinstein, D.D.S.* George H. Schmidt, D.D.S.*

Ed. One of the mental burdens of the new intern (medical or dental) is learning an entirely new "abbreviated vocabulary" which might be more appropriately called hospital jargon. Much of this vocabulary consists of abbreviations of medical and scientific words. Others seem to have no basis of fact. Yet they exist! Drs. Weinstein and Schmidt compiled the following list for a Manual on Hospital Dentistry, to be published by the Council on Hospital Dental Service of the American Dental Association, and have consented to its prepublication in the J.A.D.S.A.
