Intelligent Heat. Clean Electricity.

Galileo 1000 N

Galileo 1000 N : The name comes from Galileo Galilei. The Italian natural scientist born in 1564 was far ahead of his time and made groundbreaking discoveries in his eld. The 1000 N in the name of the fuel cell heater refers to the electrical output of approximately 1000 Watts achieved using natural gas.

Heat and power from fuel cells: Compelling advantages

Forward-looking and environmentally-friendly efficiency Fuel cell technology is one of the most ecological ways to generate energy from natural gas or biomethan. Compared to supplying heat purely using a gas condensing boiler and electricity from the grid, up to 50% of carbon dioxide emissions can be prevented when heat and electricity is supplied by Galileo 1000 N. With Galileo 1000 N, HEXIS has developed a fuel cell system that eliminates the need for gas condensing boilers in houses and small apartment buildings. Galileo 1000 N directly converts natural gas efficiently, environmentally-friendly and practically silently into electricity and heat, meeting a large part of an average households electricity requirements. The user-friendly system design ensures easy maintenance and intuitive operability. This makes Galileo 1000 N ideal for users who place high demands on functionality, sustainability and appearance.
Independent, ecological and intelligent Using a decentralised energy supply through a combined heat and power system (CHP) is characterised by the simultaneous generation of mechanical and thermal energy. Here, the mechanical energy is converted into electrical power, while thermal energy, consisting of waste heat, is used entirely to generate space heating and hot water. Galileo1000N, how ever, does not produce mechanical energy. Instead, it produces electricity directly using an electrochemical process.

Fuel cell heater Galileo 1000 N replaces conventional boilers and also generates electricity to meet demands is ideally suited for restorations and renovations thanks to the straightforward installation and without the need for major structural changes operates with extremely low emission levels: very quietly and with the least amount of pollutant emissions for active climate protection extremely compact design for space-saving installation uses the employed fuel with maximum efficiency ensures the supply of space heating and hot water, even in case of power outages combines state-of-the-art technology with user-friendliness thanks to the integrated network interface, the device settings can be accessed easily and across the system

The model with a bright future: Decentralised energy generation

Active climate protection Compared with gas condensing boilers and obtaining electricity from the public grid, fuel cell heaters reduce CO2 emissions up to 50%. Fuel cell heaters are the only combined heat and power technology that can also be used intelligently in buildings with low heat requirements.

The idea behind Galileo The idea behind developing Galileo 1000 N was to largely cover the typical energy requirements in a house or small apartment building using a fuel cell heater. It was designed to generate heat as well as electricity tailored to meet on-demand requirements. The goal is to achieve optimum overall efficiency. To do this, only a minimum quantity of inexpensive natural gas need be supplied to the heater, since it is used with the greatest possible efficiency. The power produced here helps considerably reduce the electricity purchased from the grid. Galileo 1000 N enables private households to produce decentralised energy and represents a pioneering technology for using the limited amount of fossil fuels available. After all, decentralised energy generation reduces transmission losses and signicantly improves the CO2 balance.

When generating electricity and heat separately, the overall efficiency is currently only approximately 60%, since around 40% is lost as waste heat. By contrast, with the decentralised combined heat and power generation system using HEXIS fuel cells, efficiency is increased to over 90%.

Efficiency and sustainability thanks to fuel cells

How Galileo works The fuel cell provides an electrical output of 1 kilowatt and a thermal output of approximately 2 kilowatts. If the building heat requirements exceed this value, an integrated gas burner can supply up to an additional 20 kilowatts of thermal heat. In terms of heat production, the HEXIS system is comparable to a modern gas condensing boiler. Its ability to also produce power is what sets it apart from conventional heaters. Heat and electricity from natural gas The HEXIS fuel cell system converts natural gas into a synthetic gas consisting of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and residual methane. The high temperature fuel cell converts this synthetic gas into electricity and the resulting heat produced is used to meet space heating and hot water requirements.
Small cell with a major impact The HEXIS fuel cell system converts hydrogen from natural gas based on oxide ceramic fuel cells (SOFC: Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). The fuel cell ultimately converts hydrogenated gas with superior efficiency into electricity and heat by means of an electrochemical process.

User-friendly cutting edge technology The straightforward and fast installation of Galileo requires hardly any structural adjustments to the building, making it particularly well-suited for restorations and renovations. The system is operated using cutting-edge technology: Galileo control units touch sensor allows the conguration of all system settings and provides access to all operating data. At the same time, the system can also be easily operated on a PC, thanks to the network interface integrated in the heater.

Galileo design and components Galileo is a compact heater and essentially consists of two parts. The top part houses the fuel cell module, where the fuel cell stack and fuel preparation unit are integrated. The bottom part houses the components for energy conversion, for supplying heat from cogeneration and for the provision of additional heat. A dual-chamber heat exchanger serves as a central, structural component. Among other things, it contains the auxiliary burner along with the ventilator and heating circuit pump. A hot water circuit and a conventional hot water cylinder can use the waste heat from the fuel cell and the auxiliary burner for space heating and hot water. An inverter converts the direct current into 230 V AC. The ow of exhaust gases is combined in a condensate collection container. The fuel cell fan integrated in the container draws the process gases through the fuel cell module and provides the air for the electrochemical reaction in the fuel cell. Galileo operates in a partial vacuum, thus preventing fuel from escaping into the environment.
