Report on External Project On 31 July 2010, I and my group members had made an external project at Matang Jaya.

My group consists of five people. We had spent our time from the morning until evening to make the investigation. We started our project on 8.30 a.m and finished on 4 p.m. It took almost eight and half an hour. The aim of our project was to identify the impact of economic activities on physical environment. We used simple process for our external project. We had chosen four methods to do our project which were by distributing questionnaire, taking pictures, doing interview and doing observation. It was not an easy task when my group and I had to go to the foreign places and asked for help from the people there. My group members and I had prepared questionnaire to distribute to the people in Matang Jaya. They were being our respondents in this external project. It was not an easy task to find the respondents because some of the people refused to help my group and I to find the information about Matang Jaya. They did not know we were students that made the investigation for our course work. They afraid we are from any government department. We tried hard to find the respondents as we needed to find extra information about Matang Jaya from the community there. Luckily, we able to find the respondents. We took almost twenty respondents to help in our project. Before we were going to Matang Jaya, my group members and I had discussed about the questions that we wanted to ask. We had written five questions and all these questions were using as interviewing questions. Doing interview was also not easy. Some of the persons that been interviewed did not answered appropriately. Some of them were out of topic. We asked about impact on physical environment but they answered the impact on human being. Besides, we also took picture as evidence. All the pictures that been taken were been used as a tool to support our elaboration. We afraid to take the pictures that related to our project as some of the factory seem not comfortable with what my group and I were doing. They afraid that we were the reporters that doing reports on their

factory. This will threaten the reputation of their factory. We had to make explanation to the factory to ensure them willing to co-operate. Despite the hot weather, we still strengthen the spirit of finding information. Without umbrella we still continue our journey walk along the village in Matang Jaya to find more information. We had to walk for a long distance to do the observation and took pictures on the economic activities and the impact of it on physical surrounding. Although we had faced many difficulties, we had gained many things through it. Many new experiences we got from it. While doing the external project, we learnt that good communication was a good medium to build a good relationship. We had to communicate with people at Matang Jaya to gain more information as well as being our respondent. Through the communication, my group members and I had created new relationship with people there. Furthermore, we had learnt to be patient. Although persons that been interviewed did not answered our questions nicely, we had to be patient. We had to understand that different people had different background or may be some of them did not understand our question. So my group members and I needed to adapt ourselves with this situation because it was one of the challenges. Indeed, we also gained experience on the way to gather information. Before, we were too relying on book and internet. Via this external project, we learnt that we can get information through observation as well as interview. These two methods helped in gaining more information. Ultimately, this external project helps a lot in understanding about the economic activities and the impact on physical surrounding. With this experience, we hoped that we manage to do well in the next external project.
