Preface

Preface
The 977 Tank Side Indicator is designed to display the level, temperature or other gauge data from the Enraf series 854 servo level gauges and the SmartRadar level gauge series 970, 971 and 973.

Note:
The Tank Side Indicator can only be connected to the servo gauge if the servo gauge is equipped with the XPU-2 board with i.s. option (XPU-2/i.s.). The SmartRadar series 970, 971 and 973 must be equipped with the optional ICU_IS2 board for connection of the 977 Tank Side Indicator. This installation guide is intended for technicians involved with the mechanical and electrical installation of the Enraf series 977 Tank Side Indicator.

EC declaration of conformity Refer to the EC declaration of conformity, shipped with the instrument.

Note:
All connections to the instrument must be made with shielded cables. The shielding must be grounded in the cable gland on both sides of the cable.

Safety aspects of 977 Tank Side Indicator

Warning
Do not use the instrument for anything else than its intended purpose.

The housing of the 977 Tank Side Indicator is dust-tight and protected against water jets. The 977 Tank Side Indicator is supplied by the level gauge and is certified as intrinsically safe: II 2 G EEx ib II B T4, acc. to KEMA 03ATEX1467 certified by KEMA, Netherlands Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D T4

Environmental conditions for the Tank Side Indicator are: ambient temperature relative humidity ingress protection : : : -25 to 65 C (-13 to 149 F) 0 - 100 % IP65

Personal safety
The technician must have basic technical knowledge to be able to safely install the equipment. When the 977 Tank Side Indicator is installed in a hazardous area, the technician must work in accordance with the (local) requirements for electrical equipment in hazardous areas.

Warning
In hazardous areas it is compulsory to use personal protection and safety gear such as: hard hat, fire-resistive overall, safety shoes, safety glasses and working gloves. Avoid possible generation of static electricity. Use non-sparking tools and explosion-proof testers. Make sure no dangerous quantities of combustible gas mixtures are present in the working area. Never start working before the work permit has been signed by all parties.

Mechanical installation

Mechanical Installation
The Tank Side Indicator can be installed at ground level of the tank or in any other suitable place. Maximum distance for the cabling is 150 metres (492 ft). Position cable entry of the Tank Side Indicator downwards. There are two ways of installing the 977 TSI: installation for wall (or bracket) mounting installation on a rail (via a bracket).

Installing the TSI against the wall or on a bracket

The 977 Tank Side Indicator can be installed against a wall or on a bracket. Refer to Appendix A for the dimensions between the mounting holes. Proceed as follows: Remove the four screws of the Tank Side Indicator cover. 1 Fix the Tank Side Indicator by four screws of max. 6 mm ( /4") diameter. The screws are 13 sunk for 20 mm ( /16") in the Tank Side Indicator housing. If the electrical wiring is connected at a later stage, close the cover of the Tank Side Indicator and seal the cable inlet with a appropriate stopping plug.

Installing the TSI on a rail

Determine whether the Tank Side Indicator can be installed on a horizontal rail or on a vertical rail. As the TSI must be installed with the cable entry downwards, the mounting plate must be installed as indicated in figure 1. Proceed as follows: $ $ $ $ Remove the four screws of the Tank Side Indicator cover. Fix the mounting plate to the Tank Side Indicator as indicated in figure 1. Use the four screws M6 x 30 mm, nuts M6 and spring washers M6. Place the mounting plate with Tank Side Indicator on rail and secure the mounting plate with the two U-bend brackets. If the electrical wiring is connected at a later stage, close the cover of the Tank Side Indicator and seal the cable inlet with a appropriate stopping plug.

Note:
In case of a vertical rail, check that the legs of the lower U-bend bracket do not interfere with the cable inlet. If they do, then cut the remaining part.

Electrical installation

Electrical installation
The entire electrical installation shall be in accordance with the International Standard EN-IEC 60079-14 for electrical equipment to be installed in hazardous areas.

Grounding
The Tank Side Indicator housing should be properly grounded to the ground reference (generally the tank). This is a safety requirement. For this purpose, the Tank Side Indicator has an external ground terminal.

Caution
Safety depends on proper grounding. Check the resistance of the ground connection directly after installation. The measured ground resistance shall be below the maximum prescribed by local grounding requirements.

Warning
When measuring the ground resistance, use a suitable explosion-proof tester.

Note:
Grounding shall be performed in accordance with local regulations.

Cable gland / conduit

Cable gland: Use the proper type of cable gland depending on local requirements.

Note:
Mount the gland according to the supplier's instructions.

Conduit: If the 977 Tank Side Indicator is installed in a hazardous area, threaded rigid metal conduit or threaded steel intermediate metal conduit shall be used.

Note:
If the 977 Tank Side Indicator is installed in a hazardous area, stopper boxes must be applied within 18 inches (0.45 m) from the 977 Tank Side Indicator to seal the cabling in the conduit.

Supply / transmission Warning

Make sure that all power to the related level gauge is switched off before opening the cover of the 977 Tank Side Indicator. Failure to do so may cause danger to persons or damage the equipment. The cover of the 977 Tank Side Indicator must be closed before switching on the power.

If the cover of the 977 TSI housing is closed, remove it by loosening the four screws. Connect the wiring from the level gauge to the terminals + and - as indicated in figure 2. Close the cover of the 977 Tank Side Indicator.

Cable specifications are: maximum length 250 metres (820 ft). one shielded twisted pair Rmax 10 (loop)

Note:
It is required to use metallic cable glands to provide good contact between cable shield and 977 TSI housing. The screen of the cable should be connected inside the cable gland. / transmission connection

Note:
Never connect the shielding inside the 977 TSI housing. Shielding must be connected externally to the housings of the 977 and the associated instrument, or inside the cable glands. The shielding must be connected to ground at both sides of the cable.
