KINEMATICS

1. What is kinematic analysis? The objective of the kinematics analysis is to determine the kinematic quantities such as displacements, velocities and accelerations of the elements in a mechanism. 2. What is displacement? It is defined as the distance moved by a body ith respect to a certain fi!ed point. ". What is vector? # vector is a strai$ht line of a certain len$th possessin$ a startin$ point and a terminal point at hich it carries an arro head. %. Write do n the different types of motion. 1& 'ectilinear motion. 2& (urvilinear motion. "& (ircular motion. ). What is 'ectilinear motion? In this motion, the particles of a body move in strai$ht parallel paths. *uch a motion is also kno n as Translatory motion or strai$ht line motion. +. What is (urvilinear motion? In this motion, the particles of a body move alon$ parallel circular arcs or curved paths. ,. What is (ircular motion? When all the particles of a body travel in concentric circles then the motion is said to be circular motion. -. What is the difference bet een velocity and speed. /elocity is defined as the rate of chan$e of displacement of a body ith respect to the time. *peed is defined as the rate of chan$e of linear displacement of a body ith respect to the time. 0. What are the different methods are used for findin$ the velocity? 1& 1raphical method. 2& #nalytical method. 12. Write the different types of $raphical method. 1& 'elative velocity method. 2& Instantaneous centre method.

11. What is confi$uration dia$ram? It is a skeleton or a line dia$ram hich represents a machine or a mechanism. To study the velocity and acceleration of any mechanisms, first e have to dra the confi$uration dia$ram. It is also kno n as space dia$ram. 12. What is acceleration? The rate of chan$e of velocity ith respect to time is kno n as acceleration. 1". What is deceleration? The ne$ative acceleration is kno n as deceleration or retardation. 1%. What is meant by coincident points? When a point on one link is slidin$ alon$ another rotatin$ link, then the point is kno n as coincident point. 1). What is centrode? The locus of all instantaneous centre is kno n as centrode. 1+. What is space centrode? The locus of the instantaneous centre in space durin$ a definite motion of the body is called the space centrode. 1,. What is 3ody centrode? The locus of all instantaneous centre relative to the body itself is called the body centrode. 1-. What is Instantaneous a!is? # line dra n throu$h an instantaneous centre and perpendicular to the plane of motion is called instantaneous a!is. 10. What is a!ode? The locus of Instantaneous a!is is kno n as a!ode. 22. Write do n the different types of Instantaneous centres. 1& 4i!ed Instantaneous centres. 2& 5ermanent Instantaneous centres. "& 6either fi!ed nor permanent Instantaneous centres. 21. 7efine 8ennedy9s theorem. The 8ennedy9s theorem states that if three bodies move relatively to each other, they have three instantaneous centres and lie on a strai$ht line. 22. What are properties of instantaneous centre? 1& # ri$id link rotates instantaneously relative to another link at the instantaneous centre for the confi$urations of the mechanism.

2& The t o ri$id links have no linear velocity relative to each other at the instantaneous centre. #t this point the t o ri$id links have the same linear velocity relative to the ri$id link. 2". What is an$ular velocity ratio theorem? The an$ular velocity ratio theorem states that the an$ular velocity ratio of any t o bodies in planar relative to a third body is inversely proportional to the se$ments into hich the common instantaneous centre cuts the line of centres. 2%. :!plain any t o methods of reducin$ interference in $ears. 1. The hei$ht of the teeth may be reduced. 2. The pressure an$le may be increased. ". The face of $ear tooth may be relieved. 2). What is the effects of centrifu$al tension in belt drives? 1. (entrifu$al tension ill increase the tension on both ti$ht and slack sides. 2. (entrifu$al tension has no effect on the po er transmitted by the belt drive.
