GENERAL DENTIST In determining the eligibility of an applicant for licensing with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as General Dentist (G.D), applicant must comply with the following eligibility requirements: 1.1 A minimum of five (5) years undergraduate dental school (DDS / BDS/ DMD or its equivalent) recognized by UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research (MOHE&SR) 1.2 Completion of internship program (one (1) year program) 1.3 Proof of practical experience. General Dentist license will be issued in two levels (level 1 and 2) based on the applicant practical experience: (i) General Dentist (under-supervision) Applicant is eligible General Dentists with less than 3 years experience including internship; he/she can work only in the following facilities: Governmental Hospital Governmental Dental Centres Dental universities (not less than 20 dental chairs) Dental educational centres in the private sector approved by MOHE&SR

General Dentist Applicant is General Dentist with more than 3 years experience including internship; he/she can practice in any healthcare facility including hospitals, governmental or private dental centres, Primary Health Centres (PHC), polyclinics and independent dental clinics. 1.4 Recent practice (no interruption in the practice for more than two years). 1.5 Valid practice license in country of graduation and/or country of last employment 2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED Applicants for licensure as General Dentist must provide the following: 2.1 Evidence of successful completion of an approved dental education program. 2.2 Dental education program transcript the applicant must provide a full transcript clearly stating the breakdown of theory vs. clinical training hours if available 2.3 Evidence of all clinical experience including appointments (Service certificates will be accepted only if signed by Human Resources (Personal Department or Medical Directors). Clinical attachments experience/observe ship is not accepted. 2.4 Valid practice license in country of graduation and/or country of employment/ appointment.

Recent Good Standing Certificate issued by the Dental council/association from the country of last employment (Certificates are only valid for six (6) months from date of issue) Passport copy One (1) colour passport photograph

Please note that additional documents may be asked to justify the application for licensure and registration. The Health Regulation Department will carry out Primary Source Verification (PSV) Applicants who knowingly submit falsified documents will be liable for prosecution as per UAE Federal Law. This would also include an automatic termination of the licensure process and/or revocation of licensure if already issued by DHA 3. ASSESSMENT Applicants for General Dentist will be required to attend and pass assessment of their competency to practice dentistry in Dubai. 4. LICENSURE CONDITIONS

Evidence of malpractice insurance is required for all approved applications before issuing the license 5. TEMPORARY LICENSE Temporary license for General Dentists who meet the above licensure requirements can be issued by DHA as one of the following categories: Dentist coming back to practice Duration of such license shall be 12 months only and can be renewed once only (if required); applicant shall meet the other requirement to apply for the full license including the CPD requirements. Applicant shall attend DHA assessment to obtain this license category.

Dentist returning to practice after an absence of two (2) years or more are required to work in an Approve Practice Setting (APS) provides various dental services and with a condition of supervision. Supervision allows the dentist performance to be assessed overtime whilst he or she becomes familiar with the UAE health system and the required standard of practice. Supervision shall be at least 12 months.

Each dentist returning to practice is also required to participate in 30 credit points of accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD). For further details see the DHA Continuous Professional Development policy 6. RENEWAL OF LICENSURE All dentists are required to renew their professional license every year (exemption Intern license). To renew the professional license applicant must demonstrate compliance to the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement:

30 credit points of accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) every year. CPD points shall be accredited by one of the accrediting bodies recognized by DHA The reporting of the CPD requirement for the purpose of license renewal must be by submitting/uploading copy of the certificates.

Applicants who knowingly submit falsified documents will be liable for prosecution as per UAE Federal Law.
