Benchmarking SAP BW Systems review and compare the current expenses of your BW system
The Benchmark Institute Wuerzburg (BIW) is constructing a worldwide benchmarking database for SAP BW implementations. The main objective of the benchmark is to facilitate the comparison of operating costs for SAP BW systems and thus aid in the evaluation of market prices. The benchmark respects the special characteristics of Data Warehouse systems and guarantees a high level of objectivity using standardized and automated evaluation methods to gain the necessary system and cost data.
SAP BW is not just another ERP module, but rather an additional system with its own hardware and support infrastructure. Cost drivers in analytical systems such as SAP BW are different from operational systems The structure of personnel expenses is different than in ERP systems Object maintenance is partly localized (e. g. queries) development and maintenance costs are allocated to many units Living data models (faster adjustment cycles, business know-how needed for maintenance) Different support approach and problem management. ERP is rather passive (calls, tickets), BW is active (monitoring, load processes) User concept (administrator, key user, end user)
The influencing factors of the BW Benchmark
The BIW Benchmark comprises standardized methods to reflect these specific properties. The evaluation of the necessary data is divided into two main methods: One method reflects the measurement of system size and complexity. This activity is done automatiTM cally by using RBE Plus technology and delivers the number of relevant BW objects (InfoProviders, InfoSources, source systems, planning objects, etc.) as well as the usage of the BW system (request logs, reporting agent logs, used functionalities, etc.). The other method is a questionnaire for the entry of the BW based operating costs. This questionnaire is based on the IT infrastructure library (ITIL), thus guaranteeing standardized and widely accepted classification of SAP BW-specific The questionnaire for the operating costs is based on ITIL classification cost drivers.
