PROPOSED FINAL DELIVERABLE

Group Members: Michael Philips, Kayla Howe, Maeve Murphy, Miranda Diebel and Majda George Name of Organization that will be the subject of your memo: International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London, UK. Description of the Organizations Business, History, and Structure: The International Institute for Strategic Studies is a non-profit think tank based in London, UK. It also has offices in Washington, Singapore and Bahrain. It was founded in 1958 with a main focus on nonproliferation and arms control. It is governed by a board of trustees that supervises its subcommittees. It also has an advisory council and two honorary positions. Connection to the Organization: Michael Philips received was sponsored by IISS to attend the Second EU Conference on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament last September. Now he is still affiliated with them and is a (unpaid) member. Org Behavior Challenge: Although it has an office in Bahrain, IISS has not successfully explored the Arabic region. It has a very bad reputation among Arabs because of its support of the Iraq war and the funding it gives to Israeli candidates. Recently they have identified the problem and have been working on ways to address it, but with little success. Although they have funded a lot of Arab experts lately, among the organizations 2,500 paid members, very few are Arabs. Their office in Bahrain is the least productive and interactive in its region.
