1 Configuring The Module

This manual details the configuration and description of the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control software menu items, and should be used as a reference during the commissioning of the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control system. It is assumed that the user has also read and understood the contents of the Si-TEC Xtend GSM Design and Installation Manual (ref no. 549-016 rev E). NOTE: This manual version (549-017 rev E) is applicable up to the Si-TEC Xtend GSM Master software program version BM_1.11n, that is current at February 2009.

1.1 Introduction
The Si-TEC Xtend GSM control module is a pre-programmed processor operating with a combination of designated inputs and outputs for Grid synchronising and paralleling control of respective Si-TEC Xtend CGC modules (engine and/or turbine application). In addition to the "standard" control inputs and outputs for synchronising, kW and kVAr reference control, etc., a number of inputs and outputs are provided for user application selection. The Si-TEC Xtend GSM control module is supplied with default settings for several input and output functions. These settings may differ for each application requirement and therefore it may be necessary to verify all preset values prior to the initial starting of the engine-generator.

1.2 Terminology
The following is a description of terms used within this document: Analog Input: Analog Output: Logic Input: Relay Output: High Input: Low Input: Preset Value: 0-5V or 4-20mA input signals. 4-20mA output for driving external metering etc. a switched input voltage (nominally 24Vdc). voltage free contacts for providing output control. when 24Vdc is applied to a logic input. when the logic input has 0Vdc applied. default set point value of an internal control function, which is adjustable via the menu system for final application settings. the circuit breaker(s) connecting the generator bus to the incoming supply, supply grid or utility. the rate of change of phase angle for detecting loss of the supply authority (mains) grid.

1.3 Navigating the Menu System and Tips

i) ii) iii) iv) v) vi) vii) A three tier menu system is used. The ^ and v keys and the "Select Menu" key will scroll you through all the menu items. Push the "Select Menu key to enter within a "Main Menu" or a "Sub Menu". At the end of a Sub Menu group an "End of Sub Menu" text will appear. The ^ and v keys will continue to operate within the "Sub Menu" To exit a "Sub Menu" press the "Select Menu" key, which will return you to the "Sub Menu" header. Pressing the v key at the last Sub Menu header will move to the next Main Menu header. To edit the preset values it is necessary for the correct user Access PIN to be entered, followed by pressing the "Reset" key. The factory shipped Access PIN is 3. The factory Access PIN of 3 will be restored by entering 7654321 for the PIN. This provides access in case the user forgets the PIN, and also advises the supervisor of the change. A shortcut key is available to provide direct access to a menu item. This is possible by pressing the "Go To Menu #" key followed by the menu item number. The menu item number for any display screen is displayed after pressing the Help key. Pressing the Help key a second time will exit the Help screen. Should the screen Text flash, this would indicate that a menu item value has been altered without being saved. Pressing the "Reset" key at the displayed "Active Alarm" will stop the Back Light from flashing. The Shortcut "Alarm" key may be used for quick navigation of the menu. It should be noted that the "Course" adjust keys (i.e. the large + or keys) do not operate several preset menu items. Should a set point be beyond the range limit, the "Back Light" will commence flashing. The Fine adjust keys (i.e. the small + or keys) should be used when selecting text items within the sub-menus, or during PID control dynamics fine-tuning. Pressing the Store key will update the value of all menu items to the Si-TEC Xtend modules EEPROM. It is essential that the Store key be pressed after change in the menu items.

3.4 Configure Module Main Menu

VT and CT Ratio (Sub Menu) Voltage range at BUS Input of Module ph/n menu 120 Sets the input voltage at the generator bus voltage sensing terminals (term 104 to 107). Set to 0 for 63.5 Vac Ph/N (typically from high voltage PTs) or 1 for 240 Vac for direct voltage input (415 Volts L-L). For 120 Vac Ph/N systems select 1 for the 240 Vac sensing range. Voltage Ratio (BUS to BUS) input of Module menu 121 Sets the ratio of the generator bus output voltage to the sensed generator bus input voltage (term 104 to 107). Where potential transformers are not used set this value to 1.00. For 11,000 Vac to 110 Vac PTs set value at 100.00 (ie. 100.00 to 1 ratio). The use of decimal points can provide compensation for any PT errors. Voltage range at GRID Input of Module ph/n menu 122 Sets the input voltage at the mains/grid voltage sensing terminals (term 100 to 103). Set to 0 for 63.5 Vac Ph/N (typically from high voltage PTs) or 1 for 240 Vac for direct voltage input (415 Volts L-L). For 120 Vac Ph/N systems select 1 for the 240 Vac sensing range. Voltage Ratio (BUS to GRID) input of Module menu 123 Sets the ratio of the mains/grid output voltage to the sensed mains/grid input voltage (term 100 to 103). Where potential transformers are not used and the mains/grid voltage sensing is the same as the generator bus voltage, set this value to 1.00. For 11,000 Vac to 110 Vac PTs set value at 100.00 (ie. 100.00 to 1 ratio). The use of decimal points can provide compensation for any PT errors. This menu item is expressed as Bus to Grid ratio, allowing for generator bus operating at 415 Vac Ph/Ph to synchronise with a 11kVac Ph/Ph mains/grid. For this case, the generator bus sensing inputs are 415 Vac and the mains/grid sensing inputs are 110 Vac Ph/Ph (100.00 to 1 primary/secondary ratio). The set ratio would include for both mains transformer ratio and the PT ratio. The set ratio in this instance would be 415 / 110 = 3.77. Gen. CT Max Output 0=(1A) or 1=(5A) menu 124 Sets the module to the secondary CT ratio, i.e. 1 Amp or 5 Amp current transformer secondary. CT Primary Current Ratio menu 125 Sets the ratio of the current transformers. The set value is the ratio (Primary : Secondary), and is illustrated by the following examples: for 1000 to 5 CTs the ratio being 200 for 2400 to 5 CTs the ratio being 480 for 1500 to 1 CTs the ratio being 1500 The display also shows the calculated CT label ratio eg. 1000 : 5, 2400 : 5, 1500 : 1 etc. Use Volt Multiplied by 10 [Y/N] menu 126 This Voltage multiplier is used on all voltages transmitted on the Si-TEC LAN and most AC voltages sent via Modbus Communication. This applies to Modbus address ranges: 2000-2099, 5500-5999 and 6000-8347. The selections are: N = (x 1V), Y = (x 10V). The default setting for this menu item is N. kW, kVAr, kVA type Multiplier menu 127 This kW, kVAr, kVA multiplier is used on all kW, kVAr and kVA values transmitted on the Si-TEC LAN and on most kW, kVAr and kVA values sent via Modbus Communication. This applies to Modbus address ranges: 2000-2099, 5500-5999 and 6000-8347. The selections are: 0 = (x 0.1k), 1 = (x 1k), 2 = (x 10k), 3 = (x 100k). The default setting for this menu item is 1.

Coming OFF LINE Open Mains CB at kW / Coming OFF LINE Open Mains CB timeout (secs) Menu items: Coming OFF LINE Open Mains CB at kW menu 201 Coming OFF LINE Open Mains CB timeout (secs) menu 202 This provides a kWatt level for opening of the Mains CB when the GSM Master references the generator bus to absorb the load across the Mains feeder. This causes the ramping down of the kWatt load (refer to menu 203) across the feeder until the OFF LINE kWatt level is reached. This facilitates tripping of the Mains/Grid CB at low current and kWatt levels. Should this kWatt level not be achieved, the Trip CB relay output from the GSM Master will be activated after the preset timeout. This time commences after the de-energising of the Go To Grid logic input (input 2) of the GSM Master. Reference Ramp kWatt per second menu 203 This is the kWatt ramp rate when loading or unloading of kWatt load across the Mains feeder. This provides soft (bumpless) loading and unloading of the Mains feeder. This ramp rate also applies when kWatt references are varied via external 4-20mA signals. Manual Ramp kWatt per second menu 204 This is the kWatt ramp rate when the GSM Master is in manual mode (Auto Select is deenergised). This ramp rate would be applicable when the Manual Speed Increase or Decrease logic input is selected or energised. kW Gain menu 205 This is a multiplier applied to the kW error output. The default value is 100.0%. Percent kWatt trim per Hz menu 206 This value adjusts the kW error value transmitted from the master unit. The percent value is of the controllable kWatts controlled by this master. The default value is 0.0%. The frequency error is the difference between the measured frequency and frequency set in menu 725. Note lower measured frequency gives a higher kW setpoint.

Maximum Export kVA menu 242 This is the maximum kVA limit of the GSM Master, and should be set based on the feeder rating. Sum Minimum Export kVA menu 243 This is the minimum kVA limit when the Sum Masters kWatt/kVAr control function is selected. Sum Maximum Export kVA menu 244 This is the maximum kVA limit when the Sum Masters kWatt/kVAr control function is selected.

Mains Voltage Control (Sub Menu) Mains Voltage Ref. 1 (ph-ph / ph-n) menu 251 This is the reference set by the GSM Master if the kVAr Control Selection Mode #1 (menu 178) is set for Volt Control by kVAr, and if the Use 2. kVAr Mode Select logic input (menu 420) is deenergised. This is typically used in applications where the Mains/Grid voltage is relatively soft or weak (eg. high impedance power lines). It is important to note that in order for the GSM Master to maintain the system voltage, the kVAr load across the feeder will be varied. The range of kVAr varied during Volt Control by kVAr is limited by the Minimum Export kVAr (menu 211) and the Maximum Export kVAr (menu 212), as well as the generators rated kVAr and leading kVAr.

23

_________________________________________________________________________ Mains Voltage Ref. 2 (ph-ph / ph-n) menu 252 This is the reference set by the GSM Master if the kVAr Control Selection Mode #2 (menu 181) is set for Volt Control by kVAr, and if the Use 2. kVAr Mode Select logic input (menu 420) is energised. This is typically used in applications where the Mains/Grid voltage is relatively soft or weak (eg. high impedance power lines). It is important to note that in order for the GSM Master to maintain the system voltage, the kVAr load across the feeder will be varied. The range of kVAr varied during Volt Control by kVAr is limited by the Minimum Export kVAr (menu 211), and the Maximum Export kVAr (menu 212), as well as the generators rated kVAr and leading kVAr. Mains Volt Deadband in % of Mains Volt menu 253 This is the span or deadband relative to the Mains Voltage reference at which no correction adjustment is made. If the deadband is set too tight (low value) it may cause a continuous correction adjustment for very small changes. Suggested deadband settings would be around 1%. Ramp Rate kVAr per minute menu 254 The Ramp Rate kVAr provides the biasing rate of the kVAr across the Mains feeder, in order to maintain the generator bus system voltage at the Mains Voltage reference level. This will only be applicable under Volt Control by kVAr. Windup Limit kVAr menu 255 The Windup Limit kVAr provides a limit for kVAr error between the GSM Master kVAr reference and the actual kVAr value during the Volt Control by kVAr mode. This will prevent the kVAr reference from changing any further, until the kVAr error is within the Windup Limit.

3.6 Bus Control Function Main Menu

Frequency (Hz) Set Point Parameters (Sub Menu) Primary Operating Frequency / Secondary Operating Frequency / Follow Grid Freq. to Min Hz Limit / Follow Grid Freq. to Max Hz Limit / Manual Adjustment Hz per second Menu items: Primary Operating Frequency menu 287 Secondary Operating Frequency menu 288 Follow Grid Freq. to Min Limit (in % of Rated) menu 289 Follow Grid Freq. to Max Limit (in % of Rated) menu 290 Manual Adjustment Hz per second menu 291 The Operating Frequency is the system operating frequency that the GSM Master sets for all the generators within the same network. The Primary or Secondary Frequency may be selected via the Go to Secondary Hz/Volt Select logic input. The Minimum Limit is set to a level below the operating frequency (eg. 95%). The Maximum Limit is set to a level above the operating frequency (eg. 105%). Hence, there will be a corresponding increase (when Grid frequency decreases) and a decrease (when Grid frequency increases) of the generator kWatt output. When paralleled to the supply grid the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control will not correct beyond the minimum or maximum limit frequency settings in Manual Mode (Auto Select input is off or deenergised). NOTE: The Operating Frequency setting must correspond to the desired rated frequency of the generator bus. The Manual Adjustment Hz per second sets the rate of change in Hz per second when operating the Si-TEC Xtend GSM in manual mode. The frequency adjustment is performed when operating the Manual Speed Increase/Decrease logic inputs.

Synchronising Set Point Parameters (Sub Menu) Proportional (Gain) Synchroniser Control menu 301 Synchronising Proportional is the value of speed gain while the generator bus is synchronising with the mains/grid. This provides an error signal from the master to all generators within the network to bias their Rated Proportional (Gain). Integral Synchroniser Control menu 302 This represents the time constant (stability) for the Synchonising Proportional correction. Max Hz Bias to Correct Phase Error menu 303 Maximum Hz Bias is the range above or below the synchronising frequency, that will "bias" the generator bus to correct any frequency error between the generator bus and the mains/grid. Hz Higher Sync Only menu 304 If Hz High Sync Only is selected as "YES", synchronising will only occur if the generator bus is at a marginally higher frequency. This ensures that the initial power flow is from the generator bus. Maximum Slip Frequency menu 305 This is the maximum variance of speed for synchronising. This is nominally set at 0.10 Hz and may be adjusted in steps of 0.01 Hz. The recommended maximum setting is 0.18 Hz. Phase Angle Window menu 306 The synchronising phase angle of the incoming generator set must be within the set window angle for phase angle matching. This is nominally set at 5 deg, with a suggested maximum phase angle of 10 deg.

25

_________________________________________________________________________

Phase Matching Offset Compensation menu 307 The offset compensates for any phase shift between the voltage sensing inputs, and is expressed in degrees + / -. This may be used to compensate for shifts in phase voltage sensing. This is normally set to 0. No Sync. if Grid Hz Below % of Rated menu 308 Should the grid frequency be below this setting the generator bus will maintain the operating frequency and will not attempt to synchronise. The nominal setting is 95%. No Sync. if Grid Hz Above % of Rated menu 309 Should the grid frequency be above this setting the generator bus will maintain the operating frequency and will not attempt to synchronise. The nominal setting is 105%. Control Dwell Time after CB close menu 310 Upon synchronising and closure of the Mains CB (via the Grid CB aux contact) the GSM Master will remain in the synchronising mode during this period of time. This will provide a minimum delay before the ramping of generator kWatt and kVAr load. Should there be a delay between closing of the auxiliary contact and the circuit breaker main contacts, the synchronising mode is maintained for a preset time. The time range is from 0.0 to 1.0 sec and is typically set at 0.1 seconds. Voltage Match Window menu 312 The Voltage Match Window is the desired range of generator bus voltage that permits closure of the CB when synchronising with the grid. This requirement is in addition to the matching of the frequencies and phase angle. The Voltage Match Window should be set greater than the Voltage Dead Band. If no voltage trimming is used this value may be set to 1% to 5% of the generator bus (ph/n) voltage. Voltage Match Offset Compensation menu 313 This offset compensates for differences between the voltage sensing inputs. It also ensures the positive flow of kVArs from the generator bus upon synchronising and CB closure by allowing the generator bus to be 0.5 to 1.0 % higher than the grid voltage. This value is expressed in Ph/N Volts. This is normally set to 0%. No Sync. if Grid Volt Below % of Rated menu 314 Should the grid volts be below this setting the generator bus will maintain the system voltage and will not attempt to synchronise. The nominal setting is 96%. No Sync. if Grid Volt Above % of Rated menu 315 Should the grid volts be above this setting the generator bus will maintain the system voltage and will not attempt to synchronise. The nominal setting is 104%.

Voltage Control Set Point Parameters (Sub Menu) Primary Operating Voltage / Secondary Operating Voltage ph/ph ph/n Menu items: Primary Operating Voltage menu 328 Secondary Operating Voltage menu 329 The Operating Voltage is the system operating frequency that the GSM Master sets for all the generators within the same network. The Primary or Secondary Operating Voltage may be selected via the Go to Secondary Hz/Volt Select logic input. Min. Bus Voltage for Control (in % of Rated) menu 330 All BUS Phase Voltages must be above this voltage, expressed in percent of the value in Primary Operating Voltage (menu 328) for Master unit to be allowed to control GenSets (CGCs). Should the Go to Secondary Hz/Volt Select logic input be switched High, then the Min. Bus Voltage for Control will be expressed in percent of the value in Secondary Operating Voltage (menu 329). Should the Master be denied control because of too low a bus voltage, then the "Bus Sensing Failed" alarm is issued.

Follow Grid Volts to Min Limit % / Follow Bus Volts Max Limit % Menu items: Follow Grid Volts to Min Limit (in % of Rated) Follow Grid Volts to Max Limit (in % of Rated) Set Minimum Volts to a level below the operating voltage, say 90%. Set Maximum Volts to a level above the operating voltage, say 110%.

menu 332 menu 333

When paralleled to the supply grid the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control will not correct beyond the minimum or maximum voltage settings, when adjusting the system voltage in Manual Mode (Auto Select input is off or de-energised). Should the grid voltage rise above the maximum voltage limit setting, the generator bus would not continue to follow that voltage. Subsequently in trying to maintain the voltage there will be a corresponding decrease in kVAr load from the generator bus, possibly resulting in leading kVArs. This may result in a High kVArs Import alarm. Similarly, if the grid voltage is beyond the minimum voltage limit setting, this will result in an increase in kVAr load from the generator bus. This may result in a High kVArs Export alarm. Manual Ramp Volt per second in % of rated menu 334 The Manual Ramp Volt per second sets the rate of change in % per second of the operating reference voltage when the Si-TEC Xtend GSM is in Manual Mode (Auto Select input is off or deenergised). The voltage adjustment may be performed when operating the Manual Volts Increase/Decrease logic inputs.

3.7 Process Setup Main Menu

Process Proportional / Process Integral Menu items: PROPORTIONAL (Gain) Process INTEGRAL Process menu 341 menu 342

The Process Proportional is the gain characteristic. Decreasing the Process Proportional setting will lower the sensitivity response to process change. If the Process Proportional is set too high a fast oscillation of process would result. The Process Integral is the stability factor of the PID and is tuned relative to the Process Proportional (gain). A high setting of the Process Integral would result in a slow oscillation of the PV (process variable). The Process Integral is tuned in conjunction with the Process Proportional constant to obtain the optimum steady-state speed response. Process Control Units [see Help] This may be select via numerical value from the following options: 0 = kPa. 1 = Pound Per Square Inch. (PSI) 2 = Bar. 3 = Degrees Celsius. 4 = Degrees Fahrenheit. menu 343

Rated Process Value menu 344 This is the rated value of the PV (process variable), and is typically greater than the Maximum Process Setpoint (menu 348). It is also used in conjunction with scaling for the PI control range, with a minimum recommended setting at 1000. Internal Setpoint Process menu 345 This is the applicable process setpoint if the process reference 4-20mA analog input (menu 545) is not used or fails. Invert Process [Y/N] menu 346 If Invert Process is selected as "YES", an Increase in Process setpoint will Decrease kWatt setpoint (i.e. Inlet Pressure Control). If set to NO, then an Increase in Process setpoint will Increase kWatt setpoint (i.e. Exhaust Pressure Control). Min. Process Setpoint menu 347 This is the minimum limit for process setpoint, whether using analog (4-20 mA) or digital (raise / lower) setpoint adjustment. Max. Process Setpoint menu 348 This is the maximum limit for process setpoint, whether using analog (4-20 mA) or digital (raise / lower) setpoint adjustment. Min. kW Generated in Process Control menu 349 This is the minimum generator load (kW) for Process Control to take effect. Should the generator kW load be lower than this setting, then Process Control will automatically be disabled. This is usually set at or above the sum of Jump to Min. kWatt setpoint for all CGC modules (CGC menu 352). Max. kW Generated in Process Control menu 350 This is the maximum generator load (kW) for Process Control to take effect. Should the generator kW load be higher than this setting, then Process Control will automatically be disabled. This is usually set at or below the sum of Rated kWatt of Generator setpoint for all CGC modules (CGC menu 349). Max. kW Correction Ramp Rate in kW/s menu 351 This is the kWatt ramp rate limit under Process Control. This is typically set equal to or less than the kWatt Load On (CGC menu 344) and kWatt Load Off (CGC menu 345) ramp rates.

28

________________________________________________________________________ Process Deadband ** menu 352 This is the span or Dead Band relative to the Rated Process Value (M# 344) within which no further correction adjustment is made. Process Integral Clamped @ kW Error Level menu 353 If the process cannot keep up with the process demand, the kWatt error will lock the process error signal, avoiding a process integral windup and overshoot when the cause of problem is removed. Process Droop ** menu 354 This is calculated based on the range between Min. Process Setpoint (M# 347) and Rated Process Value (M# 344). Digital Input Process Setpoint Ramp Rate menu 355 This is the ramp rate for process setpoint when digital inputs M# 434 (Process Increase) or M# 435 (Process Decrease) are used. Note that M# 433 (Process Ref. Analog Select) must be Low or Off. {** These menu item functions are currently not implemented.}

3.8 LOGIC and ANALOG I/O Configure Set Parameters Main Menu
Logic Inputs Allocate a Task to an Input (Sub Menu) The following logic input functions can be set to: always OFF : always ON : or allocated to a switched logic input terminal. Some items cannot be set to always off. Terminal allocations available for logic inputs are terminals 5 to 16. Logic input 1 to 4 (terminals 1 to 4) have fixed functions.

Auto Select Input menu 403 This input is to be High (energised) for automatic operation and Low for manual operation. The auto/manual refers to the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control mode and does not relate to the external control system automatic/manual operations. For normal operations this input should be energised, allowing the GSM Master to function when the automatic Go To Grid sequence is carried out. Hence, the preset configuration for the Auto input logic function is always ON. It should be noted that the Si-TEC Xtend GSM manual mode function is intended only as a technicians tool and not as the normal mode of operation. Auto Select Input Low (Manual Mode) When the Auto Select input is Low the manual operation is activated, it disregards the function of the Go To Grid sequence. Hence, only manual control of the generator bus frequency and voltage is permitted during synchronising of the mains/grid CB, as well as manual kWatt and kVAr load control after closure of the mains/grid CB. If switched to the manual mode while Grid CBs 1 & 2 (inputs 3 & 4) are open, the frequency and voltage of the generator bus remains at the respective levels prior to switching. Utilising the Manual Speed/Volts Raise & Lower inputs would allow for the system frequency and voltage reference to be varied (based on the Operating Frequency and Operating Voltage control mode selections). If switched to manual mode when Grid CBs 1 & 2 (inputs 3 & 4) are closed, the kWatt and kVAr load across the mains feeder remain at the same levels. Utilising the Manual Speed/Volts Raise & Lower inputs would allow for the kWatt and kVAr load to be varied (based on the Operating Frequency and Operating Voltage control mode selections). Should the GSM Master be disabled (Enable input de-energised), it will no longer provide a kWatt or kVAr reference to the generator bus, and the generators will revert to their internal setpoints. Auto Select Input High (Automatic Mode) When the Auto Select input is High, automatic operation of the GSM Master is activated. If the Go To Grid and Enable inputs are energised, the GSM Master will automatically synchronise the generator bus with the Mains/Grid system. Upon synchronising, the GSM Master will energise the Close CB relay output to close the Mains/Grid CB. With Mains/Grid CB closure (based on inputs 3 & 4 being High), kWatt and kVAr are automatically controlled based on their respective kWatt and kVAr control mode settings. These would include Import/Export kWatt and kVAr/PF across the Mains feeder, or referencing of the generator bus kWatts and kVAr/PF. In addition, the GSM Master may also conduct Process Control (by varying the controllable generated kWatts), while providing the selected kVAr/PF control. If the Go To Grid input is de-energised with Enable input remaining energised, the GSM Master will reference the generator bus to absorb load from the Mains feeder (via soft load transfer), and issue a Trip CB relay output command to separate the generator bus from the Mains/Grid. Should the GSM Master be disabled (Enable input de-energised), it will no longer provide a kWatt or kVAr reference to the generator bus, and the generators will revert to their internal set points.

Manual Voltage Increase menu 404 This function when energised will increase the system voltage bias to the generator bus in an Islanded system. This function will also increase the generated kVArs (reactive power) when the generator bus is paralleled with the Mains/Grid. Manual Voltage Decrease menu 405 This function when energised will decrease the system voltage bias to the generator bus in an Islanded system. This function will also decrease the generated kVArs (reactive power) when the generator bus is paralleled with the Mains/Grid. Manual Speed Increase menu 406 This function when energised will increase the system frequency bias to the generator bus in an Islanded system. This function will also increase the generated kWatts (active power) when the generator bus is paralleled with the Mains/Grid. Manual Speed Decrease menu 407 This function when energised will decrease the system frequency bias to the generator bus in an Islanded system. This function will also decrease the generated kWatts (active power) when the generator bus is paralleled with the Mains/Grid. Use Analog Inputs Select menu 409 Set this function to always ON or allocate as a logic input, if there is a requirement to utilise analog inputs (4-20mA) to the GSM Master for external reference adjustment (eg. varying the Export kWatt reference). If this is set to always OFF or de-energised, only the preset value of the reference will be applicable. Should there be a loss of the analog signal be less than 3.1mA or greater than 20.9mA, the reference will either go to the preset value or will hold the last value. The preset or hold function may be selected from menu items 179 and/or 182. Gen Group 1 to 4 (1st Bit and 2nd Bit) menus 411 and 412 The Group Control function allows for up to 4 networks or groups of generators in load sharing (islanded) or in load control (Mains parallel). This function is typically used for applications involving multiple Mains incoming feeders, or during the synchronising of generator bus networks. The Group Control provides for the load sharing or load control of separate or split groups without requiring any hard-wire switching of the Si-TEC LAN communications. The switching of the group logic input combination (1st and 2nd bits) sets the group number for the respective units as follows: Bit 1 Low, Bit 2 Low = Group 0 Bit 1 Low, Bit 2 High = Group 2 Bit 1 High, Bit 2 Low = Group 1 Bit 1 High, Bit 2 High = Group 3 Synchronise Inhibit menu 413 Disables the CB close relay output signal when this function is switched high or set to always ON, during the mains/grid synchronising operation. Match Hz/Ph Angle Inhibit Select menu 414 This is used to disable the frequency and phase matching features within the GSM Master synchronising function, and is used as a technicians tool for troubleshooting purposes. This is nominally set to always OFF. Match Volts Inhibit Select menu 415 This is used to disable the voltage-matching feature within the GSM Master synchronising function, and is generally used as a technicians tool for troubleshooting purposes (i.e. nominally set to always OFF). However, this input function may be utilised in some special applications where only Frequency/Phase tracking is required (eg. UPS synchronising). kWatt Control Inhibit Select (to be implemented) menu 416 This is used to disable the kWatt reference control within the GSM Master kWatt control function, and is generally used as a technicians tool during troubleshooting (nominally set to always OFF). kVAr Control Inhibit Select (to be implemented) menu 417 This is used to disable the kVAr reference control within the GSM Master kVAr control function, and is generally used as a technicians tool during troubleshooting (nominally set to always OFF).

The default setting for this function is Mode #1 (input is always OFF). Use kVAr Mode 2 Select menu 420 Energising this input function will revert to the kVAr Mode #2 reference selection. The default setting for this function is Mode #1 (input is always OFF). Go To Zero kWatt Import/Export Select menu 421 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set a 0 kWatt reference after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. This function overrides all existing preset or 420mA kWatt control mode references. It also has a higher priority level than Go To kWatt Limit Import and Go To kWatt Limit Export. The default setting for this input is always OFF. Go To Zero kVAr Import /Export Select menu 422 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set a 0 kVAr reference after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. This function overrides all existing preset or 420mA kVAr control mode references. It also has a higher priority level than Go To kVAr Limit Import and Go To kVAr Limit Export. The default setting for this input is always OFF. Go To kWatt Limit Import Select menu 423 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set the Minimum Export kWatt reference (menu 191) after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. Go To kVAr Limit Import Select menu 424 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set the Minimum Export kVAr reference (menu 211) after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. This function overrides all existing preset or 4-20mA kVAr control mode references. It has a higher priority level than Go To kVAr Limit Export but a lower priority level than Go To Zero kVAr Imp/Exp. The default setting for this input is always OFF. Go To kWatt Limit Export Select menu 425 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set the Maximum Export kWatt reference (menu 192) after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. This function overrides all existing preset or 4-20mA kWatt control mode references. It has a lower priority level than both Go To Zero kWatt Imp/Exp and Go To kWatt Limit Import. The default setting for this input is always OFF. Go To kVAr Limit Export Select menu 426 When set to always On or energised, this control function will set the Maximum Export kVAr reference (menu 212) after Grid CB is closed and GSM Master is in Automatic mode. This function overrides all existing preset or 4-20mA kVAr control mode references. It has a lower priority level than both Go To Zero kVAr Imp/Exp and Go To kVar Limit Import. The default setting for this input is always OFF. Go To Secondary Hz/Volt Select menu 427 When set to always ON or energised, this control function selects the Operating Frequency 2 and Operating Voltage 2 references. Should this input be set to always OFF or de-energised, then Operating Frequency 1 and Operating Voltage 1 will be selected references. Swap Grid / Bus Volt Sensing Select menu 428 If selected via logic input switching or to always On, this feature allows the Bus Volts to be set as the reference during synchronising. Should this input not be used, the Grid Volts will be the default

Analog Inputs Allocate to Input (Sub Menu) Analog Inputs are available to provide references and control inputs. Each of the analog input functions has three associated menu items. The Allocate to a Source provides for selection of the input channel (ie. AI-1, AI-2, AI-3, Modbus Communications, etc). The Min Reference is the value represented by the minimum range of the input source (ie. 4mA for a 4-20mA input, 0 for a communicated value, etc). The Max Reference is the value represented by the maximum range of the input source (ie. 20mA for a 4-20mA input, High Modbus Ref.Value for a communicated value, etc). The reference input values may be assigned so that the maximum input value may be either positive or negative, and similarly for the minimum input value. This allows greater flexibility with the selection of transducers. The following examples are provide: Import/Export kWatt #1 Allocate a source = AI-1 (a 4 to 20mA input) 4mA min reference -1000 | -500 | -100 20mA max reference +100 | +500 | +1000 Import/Export kVAr #2 Allocate a source = AI-2 (a 4 to 20mA input) 4mA min reference -800 | -400 | -80 20mA max reference +80 | +400 | +800

Gen.% of Rated kW #1 Allocate a source = AI-3 (a 4 to 20mA input) 4mA min reference 0% | 25% | 50% 20mA max reference 100% | 75% | 100% Note: References ending with #1 are applicable only if control mode #1 is selected. Similarly, references that end with #2 would be used if control mode #2 is selected.

35

_________________________________________________________________________ High Modbus Ref. Value menu 491 The menu item High Modbus Ref. Value provides for the setting of decimal values representing the Maximum Reference or 100% value for that input function (in lieu of the analog 4-20mA). For example if the maximum (100%) communicated value was a 12 bit number this would be set at 4095; and for a 16 bit capacity, set at 65535. The Si-TEC Xtend module then scales the input value for the input function references. The Modbus Analog Inputs AX0 AX7 correspond to the Modbus Write Addresses 4000 4007 respectively, and may be used as a source for the following Analog Input Functions: Import/Export kWatt #1 menu 497 Generated kWatt #1 menu 500 Gen. % of Rated kWatt #1 menu 500 Import/Export kVAr #1 menu 506 Import/Export PF #1 menu 509 Generated kVAr #1 menu 512 Generated PF #1 menu 515 Mains Volt Control #1 menu 518 Import/Export kWatt #2 menu 521 Generated kWatt #2 menu 524 Gen. % of Rated kWatt #2 menu 527 Import/Export kVAr #2 menu 530 Import/Export PF #2 menu 533 Generated kVAr #2 menu 536 Generated PF #2 menu 539 Mains Volt Control #2 menu 542 Process Reference menu 545 Process Measurement menu 494

The configuration of the Modbus Analog Inputs is as follows: (1) Select the desired scaling for the Modbus Analog Inputs. The input scaling is between 0 and the High Modbus Ref. Value in menu 491. The default value for the High Modbus Ref. Value is 20000. (2) In the selection menu for the Analog Input Function select one of the Modbus Analog Inputs AX0 to AX7. (3) Enter the value @ Min. In configuring the 4-20mA outputs first assign a data type to the output, then set the value to represent 4mA and then set the value to represent 20mA. These settings would correspond to the scaling of instrument or device that the 4-20 mA output is driving into. 3.10 TIME ERROR CORRECTION SETTINGS Main Menu

Time Since CPU Reset d:hh:mm:ss menu 721 This menu item is for information only (display item) and is identical to menu item 021. It indicates the time since the Si-TEC Xtend module was last powered up. Time Error: Present and Set menu 722 This menu item shows the calculated time error difference between the real and desired Bus Frequency time in seconds (the desired being referenced to an external Synchronising Clock). If the time error is to be compensated, the Set value may be adjusted via the + or key. The default setting for the Set value is 0.0 seconds. A typical example would be if the generator bus time (Present) lags behind the desired time, then the Set value would have to be decreased to a value for the required compensation. The change in Set value will only be activated after pressing the STORE key. Time Error Bias Gain in Hz per second menu 723 This sets the rate at which the time error is corrected (gain setting), adjustable from 0.0 to 2.00 Hz per second. Setting this menu item value to 0.0 will disable the Time Error Correction function. Max. Time Error Bias in Hz menu 724 This menu item sets the limit of frequency (Hz) correction, and is adjustable from 0.0 to 4.00 Hz. This setting may also be limited by menus 289 and 290 of the GSM, and menus 288 and 289 of the TGC / CGC controls. A typical setting would be around 1.0 Hz, or up to 0.5 Hz lower than the menu settings listed (i.e. frequency limits of the GSM and TGC/CGC controls). System Frequency This sets the desired bus frequency (i.e. either 50 Hz or 60 Hz). menu 725

Stop Time Error Correction when Disabled [Yes / No] menu 726 If set to Y, the time error is only updated when the ENABLE input is high. If set to N, the time error is always updated. The Time Error Correction feature provides a correction better than 120 seconds per year, and may be utilised where power systems synchronising clocks are tied to the plant load (typically in isolated or islanded plant applications). The Time Error Correction corrects for momentary slips and rises due to load switching, harmonics, etc. Note: The GSM Master control module with Time Correction Error also requires an additional hardware option for this application.

4 CONTROL NOTES
## THIS IS A CONTROL DEVICE AND IS NOT TO BE USED FOR INCOMING FEEDER OR GENERATOR BUS PROTECTION. SEPARATE INDEPENDENT DEVICES MUST BE USED FOR MAINS CIRCUIT BREAKER (CB) AND SWITCHGEAR PROTECTION. The internal Si-TEC Xtend GSM alarm functions may be selected to operate the control's Trip CB output and/or to switch an output relay. Internal tripping of the Mains CB should be interfaced to latching circuit(s) to inhibit generator bus or Mains feeder control under such alarm conditions. This provides flexibility to suit the required control operation. The alarm relay outputs are only operative at the Alarm State and do not latch within the module. All latching for alarm indication and/or control interfacing should be conducted external to the module. Upon the operation of various alarms it is desirable to "advise" the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control of a change to the required control state, by de-energising the relative logic input(s). For example if vector disturbance is detected, internally or externally trip the CB, deenergise and latch out the Go To Grid input (input 2), which then prevents a resynchronising of the Mains/Grid CB until the fault is cleared. Without de-energising input 2 the GSM Master is still instructed to operate normally. In this situation the control realises that the Grid CB inputs (logic inputs 3 & 4) are de-energised, and with input 2 energised the mode of operation would be to re-synchronise the Mains/Grid with the generator bus. By de-energising input 2, the mode changes to Mains "off line", ensuring that the generator bus is in islanded mode. Refer to the following sequence operation of logic inputs 1 and 2 (section 4.2, page 45). The CB Close relay contact momentary closes when the generator bus is synchronised with the Mains/Grid, signalling for the Mains CB to close. This relay output is de-energised should the generator bus move out of synchronisation and/or if the Grid CB auxiliary inputs (via logic inputs 3 & 4) signal that the circuit breaker has closed (after a 1-second delay to prevent "pumping" of the CB). It should be noted that the CB Close relay output function always operates with a momentary contact, regardless of the allocation of the Trip CB relay. The Grid CB auxiliary inputs (input 3 and input 4) should instantaneously receive their status signal change (or with minimum time delay), after a change in the actual respective CB status. This is critical in ensuring that the Si-TEC Xtend GSM operates in the correct control mode. It is strongly recommended that all external interposing relays for GSM modules be equipped with a protective circuit (eg. Diode 1N4007) to eliminate high voltage spikes.

4.1 Logic Inputs

## The inputs may be powered from an external 24Vdc supply, provided that the grounding is common. A separate common terminal (terminal 0) is provided. The logic input voltage may range from 10V to 32Vdc however 24Vdc is recommended. Various logic inputs may be configured to suit the user application. Refer to the Menu Functions and settings for further logic input options and selection. The following list is a description of the logic input control functions and these functions allocated to the listed input terminals. It should be noted that more than one input control function may be assigned to a single common logic input. Input functions may be set to always OFF, always ON, or allocated to a switched logic input.

4.2 Fixed logic Inputs

Enable - Input 1 (terminal 1) Logic Input 1 is required to be High (energised) in order for the GSM Master to provide referencing to the Si-TEC Xtend CGC control units (representing each generator). De-energising the Enable input will disable the GSM Master control of the individual generators, and each generator (controlled by the Si-TEC Xtend CGC) will revert to its own internal set point. Go To Grid - Input 2 (terminal 2) This input function performs the paralleling function of the GSM Master, including synchronising, Mains CB closure, kWatt and kVAr reference control. The operation is described below. Upon the Go To Grid input being energised (provided that both the Enable and Auto Select inputs are energised or always ON): 1 The GSM Master will automatically synchronise the generator bus with the incoming Mains/Grid after matching frequency, phase angle and voltage. Phase rotation is further checked before permitting the closure of the "Close CB" relay output (fixed designated relay output). 2 Upon confirmation that the Mains/Grid CB is closed (Grid CB inputs 3 and 4 are energised), the GSM Master will provide referencing for kWatt and kVAr load control to the generator bus. 3 The kWatt and kVAr load control via the GSM Master will be effected via soft or bumpless load transfer, via reference ramp rates that may be set for both kWatt and kVAr loading. Based on the selected control mode, the GSM Master may either control the Mains feeder load (via Import or Export referencing to the generator bus) or through referencing of the generator bus load (via base load referencing to the generator bus). Upon the Go To Grid input being de-energised (provided that both the Enable and Auto Select inputs are energised or always ON): 1 The GSM Master will reference the generator bus to unload the Mains feeder based on the reference ramp rates for kWatt and kVAr. Both kWatts and kVArs will unload to their respective Off-Line levels. 2 Upon reaching the Off-Line kWatt and kVAr levels, the GSM Master issues a Trip CB relay output to open the Mains/Grid CB. 3 With confirmation that the Mains/Grid CB is open (Grid CB inputs 3 and 4 are de-energised), the GSM Master will provide referencing only for system voltage and frequency to the islanded generator bus. Note 1: It is advisable that the Go To Grid input be externally Latched Out, if the Mains/Grid CB is tripped under a fault condition. This will "advise" the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control of a Mains/Grid failure, and prevent any re-synchronising of the Mains/Grid from occurring. Note 2: During synchronising, the GSM Master will not drive the generator bus frequency or voltage if the Mains/Grid frequency and voltage is beyond the minimum and maximum levels. Grid CB 1 - Input 3 (terminal 3) & Grid CB 2 - Input 4 (terminal 4) Both Grid CB1 and Grid CB2 should be energised when the Mains/Grid CB (circuit breaker) is closed. These inputs are typically derived from the Mains/Grid CB auxiliary contacts. On receiving a High signal for both inputs, the Si-TEC Xtend GSM will be informed that the Mains/Grid CB has closed. The GSM Master will then control the Mains feeder load or will provide referencing of kWatt and kVAr load for controlling the generator bus load. In most applications, only one auxiliary Grid CB input contact is sufficient. In this case, if say Grid CB 1 receives an auxiliary contact signal from the Mains/Grid CB relay, then Grid CB 2 input should be looped to the Grid CB 1 input. For applications involving an additional breaker in series with the Mains/Grid CB, Grid CB 2 may also be utilised as an auxiliary contact input from the breaker relay. It should be noted that faulty auxiliary contacts of the Mains/Grid will affect the GSM Masters ability to provide safe and accurate kWatt and kVAr load referencing and control.

4.4 GSM Master kWatt and kVAr control priority

With a wide range of kWatt and kVAr control referencing by the GSM Master, it is important to understand the priority level of control for all the references. GSM Master kWatt control priority (with Auto Select input energised): (1) Go To Zero kWatt Export (2) Go To kWatt Limit Import (3) Go To kWatt Limit Export (4) kWatt Control Mode preset value (mode 1 or 2) (5) Analog Input 4-20 mA kWatt reference (if Use Analog Inputs Select input is energised) Note 1: Should the Analog Input 4-20 mA kWatt reference fail (< 3.1 mA or > 20.9 mA), and if all the Go To .. references are de-energised or always OFF, the kWatt reference will default to an internal kWatt reference. This may be configured either to the kWatt Control Mode Preset value (mode 1 or 2) or to a Hold value (a lock-in-last reference upon signal failure). Note 2: Should the Auto Select input be de-energised, the GSM Master will only be able to control the kWatt reference manually (i.e. via the Manual Speed Increase & Decrease inputs), and will disregard the status of the above control references. Note 3: Refer to the kWatt control set point selection tree diagram (Appendix) for more details. GSM Master kVAr control priority (with Auto Select input energised): (1) Go To Zero kVAr Export (2) Go To kVAr Limit Import (3) Go To kVAr Limit Export (4) kVAr Control Mode preset value (mode 1 or 2) (5) Analog input 4-20 mA kVAr/PF reference (if Use Analog Inputs Select input is energised) Note 1: Should the Analog Input 4-20 mA kVAr/PF reference fail (< 3.1 mA or > 20.9 mA), and if all the Go To .. references are de-energised or always OFF, the kVAr/PF reference will default to an internal kVAr/PF reference. This may be configured either to the kVAr Control Mode Preset value (mode 1 or 2) or to a Hold value (a lock-in-last reference upon signal failure). Note 2: Should the Auto Select input be de-energised, the GSM Master will only be able to control the kVAr/PF reference manually (i.e. via the Manual Volts Increase & Decrease inputs), and will disregard the status of the above control references. Note 3: Refer to the kVAr control set point selection tree diagram (Appendix) for more details.

5 Si-TEC XTEND GSM VECTOR DISTURBANCE RELAY

The vector disturbance relay function allows rapid detection of the loss of Mains/Grid supply by a paralleled Si-TEC Xtend GSM control. It detects the step change in phase that occurs when the Mains/Grid supply is suddenly disconnected from the generator bus system. For the vector angle change to occur as a result of the loss of Mains/Grid, the load on the generator bus must change by a specific amount depending on the sensitivity setting. The relay detects the vector disturbance within 3 cycles (50ms) of the Mains/Grid separation, allowing the generator bus connection to the Mains to be tripped well before Mains power system automatic re-closure occurs (typically 200 ms to 5 secs after the trip). The one condition that the relay cannot detect is a Mains separation when the load on the generator bus side of the separation point is such that the generator bus sees little or no load change. In most power systems, this situation is unlikely. Should this occur, the vector disturbance relay activates if and when the load attached to the generator bus changes sufficiently to cause the requisite vector angle change. The relay sensitivity setting is the vector angle change required to activate the relay, and is adjustable via the Si-TEC Xtend keyboard from 0.1 degree to 100 degrees in 0.1-degree increments. Approximate load changes required to cause vector disturbance magnitudes are listed below. Vector Disturbance Degrees 1 2 5 10 % Rated Load Change 5% 15% 35% 70%

The sensitivity adjustment is normally set to 5, which give the best compromise between a nuisance tripping and detection coverage. The setting may be reduced to 1 degree in areas without ripple voltage control systems, which at high amplitudes can cause apparent vector disturbances of up to 1 degree. This relay provides protection from transmission system faults, where the Mains voltage may be absent or reduced for a significant period of time before the fault is cleared. Operation of the relay and subsequent disconnection of the generator bus from the mains prevents possible loss of synchronism ("pole slipping" or "out of step" operation) after the fault is cleared. When the fault occurs the system impedance as seen at the generator bus terminals changes, with both real and reactive components normally decreasing. The impedance change causes a rapid generator bus loading change and voltage vector change, triggering the relay. In the unlikely circumstance of the impedance change being gentle enough that the relay is not triggered when the fault occurs, then should pole slipping occur when the fault is cleared, the violent load changes associated with pole slipping are guaranteed to trigger the relay. The vector disturbance relay is further energised upon the loss of a single or two phases. This is achieved by utilising differential phase sensing. The GSM Master also provides the display of the Peak Hold Vector Angle Shift, which may assist in ascertaining the suitable setting for specific applications.

7 FAULT FINDING
Si-TEC Xtend GSM control system check list
(a) Check for correct logic input signals for the required mode of operation. (b) Check for loose terminations, wiring faults, and faulty contacts. (c) Check the Circuit Breaker (CB) auxiliary contact input for correct operation. (e) Verify that the communication between the CGC units and the GSM Master (via the RS485 Si-TEC LAN) is functioning correctly.

Most Common Faults and their Causes

1) Generator bus is not synchronising with the incoming Mains/Grid a) The Go To Grid, Enable and/or Auto Select Inputs are de-energised or Low. b) The Synchronise Inhibit Input is energised or set to always ON. c) The phase rotation between Grid and Bus is not correct. d) The Synchronising Proportional (gain) preset value requires adjustment. e) Low or High voltage input(s) to the Grid or Bus voltage inputs. f) Voltage is not within the "voltage window", and voltage correction is not functioning. g) The "Synchronising Bias" setting is incorrect. 2) Generator system or Mains feeder does not load (kWatt & kVAr) after Mains CB Closes. a) Check the Grid CB auxiliary inputs (inputs 3 & 4) status. They must be energised (High) to enable load (kWatt & kVAr) control operation via the GSM Master. The default display would most likely still display the "Synchronising Mode". b) Verify that the Auto Select input for the GSM Master is energised (High). Should this be de-energised (Low), then the GSM Master will be in manual mode. This prevents generator bus or mains feeder from taking any load until the manual raise/lower switches are utilised. c) If a remote analog input is used for kWatt / kVAr referencing, verify the condition of the 4-20mA input signal to the GSM Master. Should this be beyond acceptable limits (< 3.1 mA or > 20.9 mA) the reference signal will fail and may have been set up to revert to the Hold state. d) Verify that the Si-TEC LAN inter-modular communication is correct. This may be viewed by selecting the Station key on the GSM Master keypad. It provides the states of the all Xtend units (GSM and CGCs), and also indicates any error within the Si-TEC LAN and User RS485 LAN (if applicable). 3) Incorrect kWatt, kVAr, current measured on GSM Master a) Check the Grid/Bus Currents and Voltages in the AC Info sub menu. This may be due to a reversal in voltage or current sensing, or an open circuit. b) Check if correct kWatt and kVAr control mode operations have been correctly set in the GSM Master. 4) Instability of kWatts when parallelled to the supply grid a) The Reference Ramp kWatt per second setting may be set too high. b) Incorrect tuned parallelled P.I.D. settings for the generator or Si-TEC Xtend CGC units (Paralleled to Grid PID settings and/or kWatt Control PID settings). 5) Instability of kVArs when parallelled to the supply grid a) The Reference Ramp kVAr per second setting may be set too high. b) Incorrect tuned parallelled P.I.D. settings for the generator or Si-TEC Xtend CGC units (Voltage Control PID settings and/or kVAr/PF Control PID settings). c) AVR problem tuning of the AVR may be required or voltage droop CTs may not be connected. d) Instability of the Grid voltage. kVAr mode may need to be set for Mains Volt control.

Baud rates of 19200, 9600, 4800 and 2400 are supported on the User RS485 port. The optional User RS485 port supports both MODBUS ASCII and RTU protocols, and supports both read and write functions for extensive addressing of the Si-TEC Xtend module. The addressing supported includes for that detailed below, menu preset values, and selected diagnostic data points. The Si-TEC Xtend modules are a slave device on the Modbus network and do not function as a communications Modbus master. These address points differ from the Si-TEC Xtend support software Si-TEC pcTune and/or the SiTEC pcConfigure programs. The Si-TEC pcTune program may only access the Si-TEC Xtend set points via the RS232 port. It is strongly recommended that the Si-TEC Xtend RS232 port be utilised for generator diagnostics only. The User RS485 communications port should be used for interfacing to Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA Systems and the like. The Si-TEC Xtend modules communication facility includes for numerous Modbus error message codes, exception codes 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 and 08. When writing to a slave Modbus device the reply from the slave device should be checked for error codes. Most Modbus propriety drivers include for adequate error checking and data handling. Should it be necessary to write a Modbus driver it is essential that the driver includes as a minimum; return function code bit 7 is not set, checksum (ASCII) or CRC (RTU) error checking, string length and end character checks, time out control, error checking and detection of Modbus exceptions, disposal of bad data packets, and buffer clearing. It should be noted that the master module data address points differ with the generator modules. Use Modbus function 3 for reading of data typical start address of 2000 for operational data. Use Modbus function 16 for writing data refer to the following list for write addresses. The Si-TEC pcTune and pcTransient programs only function on the Xtend module RS232 port. The Si-TEC pcTune also operates via a modem connection (for off site Tuning and Diagnostics). The Si-TEC pcConfigure typically operates from the Xtend RS232 port, although it can also operate from the User RS485 port (applies to pcConfigure ver. 1.34 onward). The User RS485 must be configured as follows for the pcConfigure communications. a) Set pcConfigure communications for the correct slave (node) - menu 137 b) RS485 mode - set to ASCII - menu 138 c) User RS485 W.Endian - set to 0 = big - menu 140 d) User RS485 Bit Mode - set to 4 (8N1) - menu 142 The Generator module User RS485 Address (menu 137) is the node to address for the respective generator not the generator module # (menu 131).

1.

Permissive Synchronising Function

The Permissive Synchronising Function provides a controlled CB closure when the Si-TEC Xtend GSM Manual control mode was selected (i.e. Auto input is low). This function is enabled by switching the Permissive Sync. Mode Select (M431) logic input function to high. The Permissive Synchronising function allows closure of the Mains/Grid circuit breaker via the Close CB relay output in Si-TEC Xtend GSM Manual control mode when the synchronising parameters are met. These include: a) Slip Speed within tolerance b) Grid and Bus phases within the Phase Angle Window c) Grid and Bus voltages within the Voltage Matching Window d) Bus is within the minimum and maximum frequency and voltage range In the Si-TEC Xtend GSM Manual mode, the Permissive Sync. Mode Select input is required to be high in order for the Mains/Grid CB to close (external sync check and closure of the Mains/Grid CB is also permitted). During the Permissive Synchronising state, manual raise and lower of speed and voltage should be conducted via the respective logic inputs. When the above synchronising conditions are met, the Si-TEC Xtend Close CB relay output will energise to close the Mains/Grid CB. After the Mains/Grid CB closes, the operator has control of the kWatt and kVAr reference as the GSM control is still in the manual mode. Switching the control to Automatic mode will permit the bumpless transfer of kWatt and kVAr/PF load till they match the respective control references. If the Si-TEC Xtend GSM control is in Automatic mode (Auto input is high) and the Permissive Sync. Mode input is high, NO speed adjustment or voltage matching is conducted for synchronising, however the Mains/Grid CB will close if the above speed, phase and voltage matching conditions are met. Please refer to the Truth Table below, for an illustration of the Permissive Synchronising function.

Permissive Sync. Mode Input High Low

Si-TEC Auto Mode Si-TEC Manual Mode

S, V

C, S, V

Legend: A = Si-TEC Xtend GSM automatically biases speed & voltage to match the grid. C = Si-TEC Xtend GSM issues Close CB output for Grid CB on sync. matching S = Manual speed adjustment (Raise/Lower) is operative V = Manual voltage adjustment (Raise/Lower) is operative

NOTE: For normal Si-TEC Xtend GSM control operations, the Auto input is High, and the Permissive Sync. Mode input is Low.
