Certainly, calculations allow us to draw forms as modulations of abstract surfaces whose frequency and membrane remain initially undetermined. Following Kandinsky, we take Leibniz at his word who claimed that all forms are calculable and in this sense, we do net use any means other than those indicated by Fourier, i.e. series of trigonometrical functions. And when we want to draw bodies, we use whole periodicities, which fold the surfaces unto themselves. At this first stage we therefore make up mathematical models which allow us to derive an infinite number of possible varieties. Faced with these worlds which comprise as many dimensions as parameters in their functions, we have developed research tools which generate series of video images corresponding the trajectories within these multidimensional universes. The objects which result from this process therefore appear first of all as frozen frames in a video sequence. But to make the transition from these virtual possibilities to actual reality we have to change the scanning and substitute the electron gun that activates the pixels of out video screen with a digital-command-reamer which can be put to use on any kind of material. If we hear so much talk about virtual reality it is because video scanning presents itself as the manufacturing minimum of an extremely ductile and supple membrane, namely, the video screen ; but lets emphasize that we are already talking about an incarnation and that this screen is only a membrane amongst many others, which is why we can actually talk of virtuality. The reason being that the video sequences are only a actualization. The mathematical models we explore are within the bounds of possibility and only have surprises in store for us inasmuch as our ability to calculate remains limited. Nevertheless, what always remains unpredictable is the relation of a frequency with a membrane, The choice of a frozen frame corresponds to the definition of a value of the parameters of out periodical functions from the viewpoint of manufacturing a defined matter to produce peculiarities in a series of objects. In the context of architectural realization a modulation will therefore gain or lose amplitude on the surface of wood panels; and therefore, also another modulation will fold a cloverleaf-like body in the center of a room unto itself. How does the phase difference of an undulation relate to the texture of a defined membrane? That is what actually remains unpredictable since we are talking each time about an actualization whose nature differs from all other actualizations and the choice of which cannot be optimized.
