MISSIONSTATEMENT
D'EyncourtPrimarySchooloffersaneducationandenvironmentforeachchildwhichisstimulatingand demanding,enjoyableandvaluable. Eachchildistreatedasanindividual,regardlessofgender,ethnicorigin,disability,religionorhome background. AIMSANDVALUES
Thegeneralaimsandobjectivesoftheschoolinclude: Toensurethattheschoolisacaringcommunitywhereeverychildisabletorealisehis/herpotential,and theircontributiontoourcommunityisrecognisedandvalued. SCHOOLORGANISATION
D'Eyncourtisnowaoneandahalfformentryschool,thechildrenbeingadmittedintotheReceptionClass inSeptember. Themajorityofchildrenenteringschoolhavehadsomenurseryexperienceatarangeoflocalnurseries.A teacherwithinschoolhasspecificresponsibilitytoensuresmoothtransitionfromNurserytoFoundation. AllFoundationagedchildrenwillbeinourReceptionClassforthreeterms.Parentsofthenewchildren areinvitedalongtotheschoolpriortotheirchildrenstartingsothattheycanmeetthestaffwhowillbein contactwiththeirchildren.Thechildrenwillalsobegiventheopportunityofvisitingtheschoolpriortotheir start. Duetothenumberofchildrenenteringtheschoolwehavetobeveryflexibleinourclassorganisation.Itis notalwayspossibletohaveasingleagedclass,andonoccasionsyourchildmightwellbetaughtina 'verticallygrouped'agedclass.This,inpractice,couldwellmeanachildworkingalongsidechildrenayear olderoryoungerthantheyare. TheschoolisscheduledforanewclassroomtobebuilttoreplacetheInfantmobile,butatsomepoint yourchildmaybetaughtineithertheInfantorJuniormobile.

AtD'Eyncourtweaimtoprovideabroadandbalancedcurriculumrelevanttotheneedsofthechildren.On enteringtheKeyStage1thechildrenbegintheprogrammesofstudythatensurethatallsubjectsofthe NationalCurriculumarecovered. ThecurriculumofferedincludesthefourNationalCurriculumCoreSubjectsofEnglish,Mathematics, ScienceandI.C.TandFoundationSubjectsofTechnology,Art,Music,Geography,P.E,Historyandone basicsubjectReligiousEducation. Itistheschool'saimthateachchildmeetsattainmenttargetsinallsubjectsaswellasachievingtheir potentialinotheraspectsofschoollife.

LITERACY
LiteracyorLanguageactivitieswithinschoolcontainavarietyofelementssuchasspeakingandlistening, reading,creativewriting,handwriting,spellingandphonicbasedwork,wherenecessary.Theseskillsare developedthroughouttheschoolandwherepossible,childrenarewithdrawnintosmallgroupstoreceive additionalhelp,ifitisconsideredhelpful.

READING
Intheearlyyearsofschoollifechildrenaretaughttoreadbyasystematicsyntheticphonicsprogramme fromtheRuthMiskinscheme.Childrenareheardtoreadinavarietyofwaysinthisscheme.Oncethe childrenhavemasteredthebasicartofreadingandhavecompletedourreadingschemestheemphasis isthenplacedonreadingforpleasure. Ourreadingbooklibraryhousesawiderangeofpaperbackbookswhichhavebeengradedaccordingto theirdegreeofdifficultyandcolourcodedinthefollowingway: Brown/Gold Pink Blue Yellow/Purple shortsimplestorieswitheasilyaccessiblevocabulary. simplestoriesbutlongerbooks. moredifficultvocabularyandmoresophisticatedsubjectmatter. verysophisticatedliteratureformoreadvancedreaders.

LIBRARY
Thechildrenareencouragedtoreadthesebooksontheirownbothatschoolandathome,althoughthe teacherorclasshelperwillhearandmonitortheirreadingasfarastherequirementsoftheLiteracyHour allows. Ournonfictionlibrary,whichiscentredinourKeyStage2corridor,isaccessibletoallagegroups.An indexofthebookshasbeencomputerisedviaasimplifiedDeweysystemandchildrenwillbeabletofind andretrieveabook,againthroughacomputerisedmicrolibrariansystem. Ourfictioncollectioniscentredinourreadingresourceareaadjacenttothestaffroom.Thevarious readingschemecollectionsarecollatedinthemainfoyer/resourcearea. OnceayeartheschoolholdsaBookFayretoencouragereadingthroughouttheschool.UsuallyaBook Clubwilldeliverawideselectionofbookstoschoolforoneweekandthechildrenhaveanopportunityto lookatthesewiththeirteacher.Thechildrenaregivenaformlistingallthebooksavailableandmayselect onesfromtheBookFayre.TheBookClubgivestotheschoolaselectionofbooksforthelibrary.

NUMERACY
ThroughouttheschoolthechildrenuseavarietyofpublishedmaterialstosupportNumeracyteachingand learningstrategies.Thisstructurepromotescomputation,investigativeandpracticalmathsalongwith sensibleuseofcalculatorandcomputeractivitiestohelpusmeettheneedsoftheNationalCurriculum. Otheropportunitiestoextendthechildrensmathematicalskillsaregivenincrosscurricularwork.

SCIENCE
TheScienceCurriculumisgenerallytaughtintopicmodules,whichusuallycoverhalfaterm.Through thesemodulesthechildrenareinvolvedinobserving,hypothesising,predictinganddeductingresultsand formingaconclusion,throughinvestigativeandexperimentalwork. Thethreescientificareasstudiedbythechildrenare:

LifeProcessesandLivingThingsthestudyofplantsandanimalsincludinghumans. MaterialsandtheirPropertiesthestudyofeverydaymaterialsandthewaytheycanbeclassified, changed,mixedandseparated. PhysicalProcessesthestudyofelectricity,forcesandmotion,lightandsoundandtheEarthinSpace

FOUNDATIONSUBJECTS
WhileastrongemphasisisplacedontheteachingofthecoresubjectsEnglish,MathsandScience, muchoftheworkcoveredinareasoftheNationalCurriculumisinacrosscurricular,thematicortopic approach. Science,Geography,HistoryandTechnologystudiesoftencombinetoprovideastimulatingtopicbased approach,whichmeetalltherequirementsoftheNationalCurriculum.Socialandpersonaleducation doesnotfallintotraditionalsubjectareas,sothisisalsoincludedincrosscurricularTopicWork. WithTopicWorkinmindclassroomactivitiesaresupportedwitheducationalvisits,residentialvisitsand talksbyspeakersinvitedintoschool.

I.C.TCOMPUTERSINSCHOOL
Computersareusedinavarietyofcurricularareastoextendthechildren'sknowledgeandskillsinword processing,artanddesign,datahandling,simulationandcontroltechnology. TheSchoolhasagoodsupplyoflaptopcomputersandfizzbooksandallchildrenaretimetabledtowork alongsideourI.C.Tspecialistandclassteachertolearnavarietyofcomputerskills.

PHYSICALEDUCATION
Sporttakesplacebothduringthedayaspartofournormalphysicaleducationprogramme,andafter schoolintheformofclubandcompetitiveteameventsagainstotherschools.Allchildrenparticipatein P.E.andgamesandallJunioryeargroupshavetheopportunitytogoswimming.Inthesummerevery childisinvolvedinourSportsDayevents. Childrenareinvitedtostayafterschoolforvarietyofclubs.Theseinclude:

ArtclubforY5/6 Childrendisplayingskillinsporthavetheopportunitytorepresenttheschoolinavarietyofevents.During theAutumnandSpringtermstheschoolenterstheWednesfield11asidefootballleague.Thenetball teamenterlocalleagueandtournamentcompetitions.

SWIMMING
Aspartofcurriculumtime:childrenhavetheopportunitytogoswimming.Ouraimistoensurethatevery childisabletoswimatleastalengthoftheswimmingbathsbythetimetheyleaveschool. WhenthepupilsentertheUpperJuniorDepartmenttheyallhavetheopportunitytoattendswimming lessonsatBilstonBaths.Thelessonscaterforbothbeginnersandmoreadvancedswimmers,asthe childrenaregroupedaccordingly.Thelessonstakeplaceineithertheshallowlearnerpoolorinthelarger publicpoolandmembersofstafffromDEyncourtandqualifiedswimminginstructorsareavailableto teachthelessons.Toencouragethepupilsswimmingprogressaseriesofawardsaremadeavailable, whichnotonlyhelptoteachandperfectbasicswimmingstrokesbutalsointroducesafetyaspects,water mobility,divingandlifesaving. Permissionisrequestedfromparentsfortheirchildrentoattendswimminglessons.Oncethispermission isgiven,parentsareaskedtoprovidenotesiftheydonotwishtheirchildrentoattendswimminglessons atanytime.

MUSIC
SkillsintroducedintheEarlyYearsaresinging,vocalwork,playinginstruments,performing,composing andlisteningwithcrossreferencetootherareasofthecurriculum. Inkeystage2childrenalreadyreceiveastructuredandbroadlybasededucationinmusic,which incorporatestheelementsofsinging,pitchedandunpitchedpercussion,listeningtoandappraisinga widevarietyofmusic,compositionandperformance.Wehopetobeabletoofferinstrumenttuitionfor someofourolderpupils.

RELIGIOUSEDUCATION
Assembliesarehelddaily,twoasaschool,oneasseparatekeystagesandoneasaclass.Pupilsmay beexemptfromAssemblyongroundsofreligiousbeliefs.ParentsshouldcontacttheHeadteacheronthis matter. Theethnicmoralsandspiritualneedsofourchildrenaretakenintoaccountinboththeclassroomand duringassemblies,whichmayonoccasionbeledbyoutsidespeakers.TheREcurriculumfollowsan agreedsyllabusfromWolverhamptonandcoverstheteachingofthemainWorldReligions.

ART
Artanddesignisenjoyedthroughouttheschool,webelieveitisespeciallyimportantasitstimulatespupil creativityandimagination.Itprovidesvisual,tactileandsensoryexperiencesandawayofunderstanding andrespondingtotheworld.Pupilsareencouragedtousecolour,pattern,texture,line,tone,shape,form, spaceanddifferentmaterialsandprocessestocommunicatewhattheysee,feelandthink.Childrenalso havetheopportunitytouseawiderangeofresources,includingI.C.T.,visitstogalleriesandmuseums andusevideosandartefactstostimulatediscussionandinspiretheirartanddesignwork.

HEALTHEDUCATION
Theschoolhasdevelopedafullhealthpolicyandwithinthisourattitudetosexeducationismadeclear.

Allhealthissueswillbediscussedastheyariseduringthenormalteachingprogramme,andwillbepartof thesocial,moralandpersonaleducationofthechildren.Theseareasaresupportedbytheschoolnursing team. Afullerversionofourpolicystatementonsexeducationmaybeobtainedfromtheschoolifrequired.

SPECIALEDUCATIONALNEEDS
InconsultationwiththeStaffandGovernorsandinlinewiththeCodeofPractice(DFES581/2001)the schoolhasaSENpolicywhichhasbeenimplementedandisreviewedannually. ChildrenwhohaveSENareinitiallyidentifiedbytheclassteacher,who,inconsultationwiththeSENCO takesappropriateactioni.e.discussingtheproblemwithparents,drawingupindividualeducationalplans andseekingadvicefromEducationalPsychologistsandothersupportagenciesasnecessary.These childrenaremonitoredcloselyandindividualplansarereviewedandupdatedregularly.

REPORTINGPROGRESSTOPARENTS
DuringtheAutumnTermparentsareinvitedintotheschool,tomeetthenewteacherof theirchildrenandtodiscusswiththatteacheranyproblemstheirchildrenmayhave.Openevenings arealsoorganisedfortheSpringTerm,whereindividualtargetsarediscussedforthechildrentotryto achievefortheremainderoftheacademicyear. Avitalpartofouroverallliaisonwithparentsistheinformaldiscussionswhichtakeplaceduringtheyear. TheHeadteacherandstaffarealwayswillingtodiscussyourchild'sprogressthroughinformaldiscussion andalsothroughan'OpenAfternoon'forParents'whichisheldattheendSummerTerm.Thiswillgiveyou afullopportunitytoviewyourchild'sworkandfollowsyourchildsendofyearreport,outliningtheir attainmentandachievement. TowardstheendofYear2,andinYear6,childrennationallyhavetocompleteS.A.T.s(Standard AssessmentTasks)whichdeterminethelevelstheyhaveattainedincertainsubjects.Thesearedoneas partofnormalclassroomworkduringtheSpringandSummerTerms.Theresultsarethennotifiedtoyou inyourchildsendofyearSchoolReport,togetherwiththeiroverallachievementsduringtheyear.Ofequal importancetotestsaretheteacherassessmentlevelsgiventothechildrenontheiryearsprogress.

HOMEWORK
Theschoolhasahomeworkpolicy.Homeworkoftentakestheformofweeklyspellingand multiplicationtables.Occasionallytheteachermayaskthechildrentofindoutsomeinformationfor TopicWorkbylookingthroughbooksandusingacomputerathomeoratthelocallibrary. Weencouragethechildrentotakehomereadingbooksregularlyandhopethatyouareabletofindsome timeduringtheweek,tohearyourchildread.Thisnotonlyencouragesthechildrenbutalsoshowsthem thatbothschoolandhomearetakingarealinterestintheirprogress.

HOMEANDSCHOOLLIAISON
Weconsiderthateducatingyourchildisapartnershipbetweenhomeandschoolandthereforeactively encouragetheinvolvementofparentsinschool. Thistakesavarietyofforms.Someparentsareabletocomeintoschooltohearchildrenread,orofferto accompanyusonourEducationalvisitsthroughouttheyear.ParenthelpersareCRBcheckedbefore theyworkinschoolandsignuptoourParentHelperPolicy.Otherparentsareinvolvedbyactivelyhelping outatchildren'spartiesorDisco'swhichareheldeachterm.

EDUCATIONALVISITS
Educationalvisitsareanimportantaspectofthecurriculumandaregenerallyusedtosupportclasstopic work.ThemajorityofsuchvisitsaretoplacesinthelocalorMidlandsarea.Thisispartlytokeepdown costsandalsotoincreasethechildrensinterest,knowledgeandawarenessoftheirlocalenvironment. Thevenuesforourvisitsincludelocationssuchas: Localshortwalkshops,localfacilities. TheBirminghamScienceMuseum. TelfordPark. LocalSikhandHinduTemples. PendefordMillFarm. TheBlackCountryMuseum. CannockChaseNatureReserve. Voluntarycontributionsarerequestedforthepaymentofsuchvisitsbutwewilldoourutmosttoensurethat nochildwillbeexcludedfromthevisitonfinancialgrounds. DuringthefinaltermYear6pupilsaregiventheopportunitytotakepartinathreedayresidentialcourse atthePioneerActivityCentre.Aswellasexperiencingthepleasureandresponsibilitiesofcommunal livingthepupilshavetheopportunitytoexperiencechallengingactivities!

SCHOOLEVENTS
Wegiveallourchildrentheopportunitytotakepartineventswhichwillimprovetheirconfidenceinfrontof otherchildrenoradults.Duringtheyearchildrenparticipateineitheraclassoryeargroupperformanceor assembly.Thesemaytaketheformofoutliningworkdoneinclassorperformingaspecialplayfor occasionssuchas,EasteroraLeaversperformance. TheHarvestAssemblyandChristmasandConcertsgivethechildrenthefurtheropportunitytoperformin frontofawideraudiencecomprisingofparents,governorsandfriends.

SAFEGUARDING
DEyncourthasmanypoliciesandprocedureswithinschoolwhichensurechildrenaresafeinschool. TheserangefromChildProtectionthroughtoFireSafetyandInternetSafetyprocedures.Thetwomain safeguardingpoliciesareChildProtectionandSafeguarding.Theysetoutproceduresforensuring childrenaresafeduringtheirtimeatDEyncourt.Copiesofthesepoliciesareavailableforparentsifthey wishtoseethem.Thereisadesignatedmemberofstaff(MrsLSmith)whodealswithallconcerns regardingchildprotectionandliaiseswithotherbodiesi.e.ChildrensServicesandthePolicewhen necessary.ThereisalsoadesignatedmemberoftheGoverningBodyforSafeguarding.Allpoliciesand proceduresfollowlocalandnationalguidelines.

PASTORALCARE
ThegeneralcareofthechildrenwhentheyareatschoolistheresponsibilityoftheHead,DeputyHead,all classteachersandancillarystaff.Itisrecognizedbytheschoolthattheeducationofthechildreninits careisacooperativeeffortbetweenschoolandhome.

BEHAVIOURDISCIPLINEPOLICY
AtDEyncourtweareaimingforthehigheststandardspossible,bothacademicallyandsocially,fromall childrenandultimatelyweexpectallpupilstoacceptresponsibilityfortheirownactions.Todothiswe knowthatchildrenmusthaveaclearunderstandingofwhatis,andwhatisnot,acceptable.Theruleswe

haveatschoolaretheretoensurethatchildrenhaveahappy,purposefulexperienceandwearestrongly ofthebeliefthatparentalsupportandgoodcommunicationbetweenhomeandschoolisthebestwayof makingsurethatifproblemsdoarise,wecansortthemoutquickly.

STATEMENTOFINTENT
Wearecommittedtoprovidingacaring,friendlyandsafeenvironmentforallofourpupilssotheycan learninarelaxedandsecureatmosphere.Bullyingofanykindisunacceptableatourschool.Ifbullying doesoccur,allpupilsshouldbeabletotellandknowthatincidentswillbedealtwithpromptlyand effectively.Weareatellingschool.Thismeansthatanyonewhoknowsthatbullyingishappeningis expectedtotellthestaff.Theschoolendeavourstosupportandtrainstafftorecognisethesignsof bullying.Staffdevelopmentisofgreatimportanceandtrainingwillbecontinuallyupdated. Childreninschoolbelongtoahouseandcanwinmeritpointsfortheirhouse.

MEDICINES
Ifachildhasbeenprescribedmedicinebyadoctorwhichhastobetakeninschooltime,itcanbebrought intoschool,butitMUSTbeaccompaniedbyanotewhichgivesdetailsoftimeitistobetakenand dosage.Themedicinesshouldbesenttotheoffice/medicalroomassoonasthechildarrivesatschool. Childrenwhohaveminorinjuriesaretreatedatschool.Childrenwhohavebumpsontheheadaregivena lettertobringhomeinformingparentssothattheyareawareofthebumpincasedrowsiness,severe headachesorsicknessoccurathome.Allaccidentsarerecordedinanaccidentbook. Parentswillbecontactedimmediatelyifwefeelachildhasaseriousenoughaccidenttonotifyparentsor isparticularlyunwellatschool.Whenhospitalattentionisnecessaryeveryeffortismadetocontact parentsarecordofhomeandworktelephonenumbersarekeptatschoolforthispurpose.

Parentsarerequestedtonotifyofchangesoftelephonenumbersandaddresses.
Whenachangeofclothinghastobesuppliedtoachilditwouldbeappreciatedifthatclothingcouldbe washedandreturnedtoschool.

MEDICALS
Theschoolhasamedicalroom. TheschoolhasanominatedSchoolNurse,shecarriesoutchecksonchildrensheight,weightandsightin ReceptionandYear6.Lettersaresenttoparentspriortothecheckfortheirconsent,anyproblemscanbe discussedwithherifyouwishtocomeintoschool. Theaudiometricianattendstheschoolannuallyandispreparedtotestanychildwhoseemstobehaving hearingdifficulties.

WeraisefundsthroughthemonthlyNonUniformDayonthelastFridayofeverymonth,whenthechildren areallowedtoweartheirownclothesinschool.Anominalsumof50piscollectedfromeachchildandis paiddirectlyintoschoolfunds.Thisisapurelyoptionalactivity. Asaschoolwetrytoraisemoneyforprojectsinthecommunity.Eachyearwesellsmalltoysorkeyrings tohelpComptonHospiceandothercharitiessuchas:ComicRelief,DiabetesUKandChildreninNeed. Theschoolisinthecentreofabusycommunityandwetrytoencouragestronglinkswiththepeoplewithin it. AtHarvesttime,wedonateproducetothelocalelderlycommunityandwealwaysmakevisitorswelcome onoccasionssuchastheChristmasplays,FayresandP.F.Aevents.Ourschoolchoirvisitslocalelderly peopleinresidentialhomes.

WORKEXPERIENCE
Duringtheyeartheschoolwelcomespupilsfromthelocalsecondaryschoolswhoareonworkexperience placement.Generallytheseareformerpupilswhocomeintoschoolforamorningaweektogain experienceofworkingwithyoungchildren. TraineeteachersfromWolverhamptonUniversitygainimportantworkexperiencewithinschool.The studentsoftenspendaperiodofweekswiththeclassteacherandusuallyteachaclassfulltimetowards theendoftheirteachingpractice. Aswellasgainingusefulworkexperiencethestudentscontributeinmanywaystothelifeoftheschool andpupilsenjoyseeinganewface!

COMPLAINTSPROCEDURE
OnceadmittedtoDEyncourtPrimarySchoolyourchildwillreceiveabroadbalancedandrelevant curriculumwhichisintendedtomeethis/herneeds.TheAuthorityandtheSchoolsGoverningBody operatetoassisttheschoolinthiscrucialrole.However,legislationprovidesforyou,asa parent/guardian,toformallyregisteracomplaintifyoufeelthateithertheAuthorityortheGoverningBody isfailingtheschool,andtherebyyourchild'seducation. TherighttocomplainislimitedspecificallytoaspectsrelatingtotheNationalCurriculumandReligious EducationandWorship.Itishopedthatanyconcernsthatyouhavewillbeofaminornatureandcanbe resolvedinformallywiththeHeadteacheroftheSchool Theprocedureisasfollows: 1.InformaldiscussionwiththeHeadteacherorotherstaff. 2.FormalcomplainttotheGoverningBodysubmittedinwritingthroughtheclerktotheGoverning BodyortheDeputyDirectorofSchools,SkillsandLearning. 3.FormalcomplainttotheLEAinwritingtotheDeputyDirectorofSchools,SkillsandLearning.
