volume. The seats can be moved forward
up to a maximumof 1 00 mm, which increases
the luggage compartment volume when the

Air vent controI. When driving, engine management keeps you continually up to date with the
engines cooling capacity requirements, rendering a permanent airstream through the cooler
unnecessary. The air intakes upstream of the cooler open and shut depending on the driving and
the outside temperature. When theyre shut they improve aerodynamics, shorten the engines
warm-up time and so reduce fuel consumption.
Tyres with reduced roIIing-resistance. While the car is in motion, the tyres are constantly
changing shape, using up energy and fuel. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an improved
design and use special materials for their road treads and side walls, which reduces deformation.
Brake Energy Regeneration. To supply the battery with electrical energy the generator is
continuously driven using engine power, which consumes more fuel. Brake Energy Regeneration
means that the generator usually only generates electricity when the driver brakes or takes their
foot off the accelerator previously unused kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode into
electrical energy before being fed into the battery. This fuel-free charging process is indicated by
a symbol on the rev counter (page ).
BMW TwinPower Turbo technoIogy. BMW TwinPower Turbo combines the latest injection
technologies for enhanced efhciency with fully variable power distribution featuring innovative
turbocharging technology for a more dynamic ride.
Eight-speed automatic transmission. The particularly smooth gear shifts of the eight-speed
automatic transmission produce greater engine efhciency at every speed. The result: a reduction in
fuel consumption of approximately and more comfortable gear changes.

system measures the gap to the vehicle ahead on an ongoing basis and automatically maintains an appropriate distance. Once
the lane ahead becomes free, the systemaccelerates again up to the desired speed.
Speed Limit Info. This optional assistance system shows the currently applicable speed limit in the instrument cluster or the
optional Head-Up Display. A special camera captures the relevant trafc signs and a control unit processes the information together
with data fromthe navigation system. Other components, such as the cars rain sensor, are also used. This means that the system
can even pass on variable speed limits to the driver in, for example, wet conditions.
Surround View, Side View and rear view camera. These optional systems enhance visibility of the area around the vehicle
when manoeuvring. Surround View presents an image of the BMWas seen fromabove in the Control Display. Side View ensures
better visibility when joining a main road from a side street or exit. The rear view camera enhances visibility when reversing at
speeds below km/h, for example when parking.

optional mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface in conjunction with a navigation systemand the intelligent integration of
selected business mobile phones1 , you can use the Bluetooth connection to show Ofce functions such as emails, appointments,
tasks or SMS messages on the Control Display while on the move, or have them read out aloud to you via the audio speakers, using
the text-to-speech function. And thanks to Bluetooth Audio Streaming, wireless playback of music via selected Bluetooth-enabled

PIugIn. With your iPhone and the Apps option, youll always be up to date and of course this applies equally when you use it
inside your BMW. Through Plugln, you have direct and easy access to all menu items, you can use advanced functions such as
the playback of Genius mixes and display album covers. And whenever you add iPod updates to your iPhone, they can be used in
your car immediately via BMWConnectedDrive. Thanks to this interface technology, the use of mobile devices in cars is innovative,
more convenient and safer.
BMWOonnected App. For the rst time, you can nowuse apps in your BMW. With the Apps option, an iPhone and the free
BMWConnected App from the Apple App Store, youre no longer limited to just listening to local radio, your calendar is with you
all the time and youre always in contact with your friends. Using the iDrive system, you can easily select web radio stations
fromaround the world. You can also call up the latest status reports fromyour Facebook or Twitter accounts and view upcoming
appointments on the Control Display, or even have them read to you through the audio systems speakers. And thats just the

drivers eld of vision via a multi-coloured TFT display. For example, the BMWHead-Up Display can show navigation directions or
your current speed. More colours now make it easier to differentiate between general driving information, such as speed limits, and
urgent warnings such as pedestrians on the road (optional with BMWNight Vision). This helps the driver to concentrate on the
road ahead, making driving even safer.
BMWNight Vision with pedestrian recognition and Acute Warning. An optional infrared camera in the double kidney grille
detects people and animals up to a distance of 3 metres displaying its images on the Control Display. Pedestrian recognition
also gives a visual warning to indicate if people are moving close to the road up to a distance of metres ahead. This means that
the driver can recognise potential danger signicantly earlier and react more quickly. The new Acute Warning System helps in
imminently critical situations, thereby offering even greater safety.
Lane Departure Warning System and Lane Ohange Warning System (both optional). At speeds above around km/h, the
Lane Departure Warning Systemregisters lane markings. lf the vehicle threatens to swerve out of its lane, the systemwarns the
driver through a slight vibration of the steering wheel. lf the driver has activated the indicator meaning that the lane change is
intentional the warning is suppressed. By means of a visible alert in the exterior mirror, the Lane Change Warning Systemwarns
the driver of a vehicle in the blind spot or approaching at speed.
High-Beam Assistant. The optional High-Beam Assistant recognises light sources in the cars environment and switches the
high beamon and off, according to the trafc situation. When the systemis active, an image sensor at the back of the interior mirror
monitors the trafc and lighting conditions. Based on these sensor images, the assistant decides whether or not the high beam
should be switched on. When it detects vehicles ahead, or nds that ambient light is sufcient, the high beam is switched off again.
