“St. Francis Xavier, a welcoming faith community lovingly sharing the gifts of God.”

TH
30 SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
OCTOBER 25TH 2009
PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED: We pray for our loved ones who have died recently,
especially Alex Chapieski and Ryan Enright.
PRAYERS FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-IN: “Let us raise up in prayer those who seek God’s healing
love, those at the hospital, hospice and at home. May your struggle be consoled by Christ’s love“.

PLEASE NOTE: that the priests of the Diocese will be on retreat from Sunday, October 25th
until Thursday, October 29th. Please keep our priests in prayer in special ways during this time.
CHRISTMAS GIVING! Yes, it's time to begin thinking of the annual tradition. In past years
the Christmas shoebox campaign was well received by our parishioners. Some local churches
and schools may continue this custom. However, this year the Social Justice Committee is

catalogue . This will give you the opportunity to choose from a range of
gifts both large and small - from ducklings to desks, sheep to sewing se wing machines, beehives to
beds, health care items to houses. We hope that you will support this new and worthy endeavour.
A little
little gift at Christmas can be an ongoing gift to sustain the recipient throughout the year. You
may prefer to assist with a Shoe Box for street people in Ottawa. Shepherds of Good Hope collects
boxes with warm sox, gloves and toiletries for their clients. Keep watching our bulletins for updates
on these opportunities.
BILL C-384 – LEGALIZATION OF EUTHANASIA & ASSISTED SUICIDE
Over the next few months, members of Parliament will discuss Bill C-384. This private member’s
bill, introduced by MP Francine Lalonde, seeks to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Please consider this: the Church has wonderful treasures to help her suffering children:
The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick offers special strength to the seriously ill. It bestows the
following graces: “the uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his/her own good and for
that of the whole Church; the strengthening, peace and courage to endure in a Christian manner the
suffering of illness or old age; the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through
the sacrament of Penance; the restoration of health, if it is conducive to the salvation of his soul; and
the preparation for passing over to eternal life: (Cathechism of the Catholic Church, 1511, 1532.)
LIMA-
LIMA-PEMBROKE PARTNERSHIP: you are invited to participate in supporting our Peruvian friends
as outlined in the brochure provided at the church entrances. Your ongoing support to the needy projects
in the poor communities of Lima are very much appreciated by the Peruvian people. The Diocesan pilgrims
traveling to Peru will see firsthand how our donations will be used in helping to feed malnourished children,
or help build much needed nursery schools, chapels and community centres in the slum areas of Lima. The
next Diocesan pilgrimage is being planned for November 2010. For info on the pilgrimage or the fundraising
campaign, please contact Yvonne Skelpowicz 613-432-6725 or Sister Pauline Coulterman 613-732-1306.

∆ HINI – DIRECTIVE FROM THE DIOCESE OF PEMBROKE ∆: As the flu season approaches,
health officials encourage us to remain diligent with certain measures to stem the spread of the H1N1 virus. The
following points are guidelines for liturgical celebrations during flu season.
a) Priests, deacons and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should be reminded of the need
to practice good hygiene by washing their hands before Mass begins. The use of alcohol-based
hand sanitizers is strongly recommended.
b) The distribution of the Precious Blood from the chalice should be limited to the presider and concelebrants.
c) Use prudent judgement with the custom of exchanging the sign of peace. In some parishes, neighbours turn to
each other, give a slight bow and verbally greet each other with the “Peace of Christ”.
d) Parishioners should be reminded that if they are feeling ill, they should not attend Sunday Mass. Because they
are not feeling well, their Sunday obligation is commuted.
We will suspend distribution of the Blood of Christ, beginning next weekend and until the end
of flu season. Communion ministers will all assist with the Body of Christ.
