Accumulated household waste in Bors

Facts:
This waste-mountain represents all the household waste that is produced in Bors every year. >99% goes to either recycling, or energy recovery. Data: Weight: 44 000 tonnes Volume: 300 000 m3 Hight: 130 m

Waste management collecting methods

Waste from residential and commercial buildings in Bors and surroundings. 105 000 inhabitants. 4 collecting methods

50 000+20 000 households Waste separation at home

80 Recycling stations

5 Recycling centers

800 Containers for delivery

Collecting and transports

Separating at source
Non recyclable: e.g paper towels, nappies, cat litter, envelopes

Food waste: e.g fruit, vegetables, meat

Organic waste

Combustible waste

130-370 l bins

Optical sorting

Biological treatment

Organic waste

Food waste turns to biogas Anaerob digestion in +55C for 30 days Biogas, CH4 (~65%) upgraded to vehicle fuel (>95% CH4)

Biological treatment

SOR1

SOR2

Landfill gas

Gaswells and pipes collecting raw gas (CH4 ~ 55%) Producing heat and electricity to the buildnings 3,1 Gwh energy

Biogas
Landfill gas Raw gas from digestion Bio methane (vehicle fuel) 40-55 % CH4 55-80 % CH4 >97 % CH4

14 waste collecting trucks, 45 busses in public transport and many company cars and private cars runs on biogas

Preparation of combustible waste

Shredded into pieces 80x80 mm Transported for combustion at Ryaverket HP plant

Ryaverket CHP

Combustible waste

Sobacken

Ryaverket heat and power plant

2x40 MWh boilers for biofuel

combustion 2x20 MWh boilers for waste combustion

Producing:
district heating 750 GWh district cooling 8 GWh Electricity 140 GWh

Leachate water

The leachate water from the landfill area is collected into a pond The pond contains 30 000 m3

From the pond the leachate water is pumped to the sewage plant
In the pump station precipitation chemicals are added (FeCl3)

BiologicalTreatment

Our challenges
Replace fossil fuel based heating in Bors. Increase the percentage of non-fossil based vehicle fuel. Produce more renewable electricity for Bors. Save energy! Communicate with the inhabitants

100,000 people working toward the same goal!
