Output in Techlog* wellbore software platform format CoreFlow* digital rock and fluid analytics services provide a 3D image of a whole-core section using many cross-sectional slices from a computed tomography (CT) X-ray scanner. Slices are spaced as closely together as half a millimeter and extend the length of the whole core section. The 3D volume can be viewed using a software application that animates the result, sequentially showing each slice. Additionally, static images show two perpendicular views along the core axis and one that unwraps an outer view of the core. Log traces show the rock bulk density and effective atomic number, with each point representing one slice. Total and spectral gamma logs further characterize the core. X-ray information is acquired using a multislice, helical CT scanner that rapidly acquires a tomographic image of the rock. The scans can be obtained while the rock is inside an aluminum or plastic liner, offering a quick look at the condition of the core before it is removed from the protection of the liner. The scanner operates in dual-energy mode at two X-ray energies to solve for the bulk density and the effective atomic number, which provides mineralogical information about the sample. This information is combined with a core gamma log to define rock classes using TerraTek HRA heterogeneous rock analysis services. Fractures and their relative orientations are clearly identified, and rock types and relevant flow units can be determined from evaluation of the CT images. The Schlumberger CoreFlow services software application provides a cross-section view of the core sample (right). The software defines the location of the cylindrical unwrap log in Track 1, which also displays a total gamma log and a potassium log. Tracks 2 and 3 indicate perpendicular longitudinal sections, with potassium and uranium logs in Track 2 and atomic number and CT number in Track 3. Track 4 is an optional track that indicates the strength index log and core photo. Track 5 shows bulk density and the photoelectric factor as well as theTerraTek HRA services result based on measurements obtained using CoreFlow services. Whole-Core CT Scanning from CoreFlow Services
