USB-MIDI Setup Guide


IfthePS60isconnectedtoyourcomputerviaaUSBcable orMIDIcables,performancedataandsoundsettingscan betransferredviaMIDIbetweenthePS60andyour computer. IfyouinstallthededicatedPS60Editor/PlugInEditor applicationtoyourcomputer,youllbeabletouseyour computertoeditPS60programsindetail,andusethe PS60fromwithinyourhostapplicationasthoughitwere aplugin. Installation in Windows
Note:InordertoinstalloruninstallsoftwareinWindows, youmusthaveAdministratorprivileges. Note:BeforeyouconnectthePS60toyourcomputervia USB,youmustusethePS60applicationinstallertoinstall KORGUSBMIDIDriverTools.

Selectandinstallalldesiredcompoments,suchas,the Editor(Standalone),PlugInEditor(VST),and/orPlug InEditor(RTAS). Forexampleifyouwanttoinstallthestandalonever sion,click[InstallStandaloneApplication]. Followtheonscreeninstructionstoproceedwiththe installation. Iftheinstallationwassuccessful,click[Close]. ThePS60Editor/PlugInEditorInstallerwillappear. Nextyouwillinstallthepluginversion(s)thatyou wanttouse.Usingtheproceduredescribedabove, beginwithstep1andinstallthepluginversion(s)that youwanttouse. IfyoudontwanttoinstalltheVSTorRTASplugin version,click[ExitSetup]toendtheinstallation. Whenyouvefinishedinstallingtheapplication(s)that youwant,click[ExitSetup]toexittheinstaller. Using the PS60 application installer


ThePS60applicationinstallerwillinstalltheKORGUSB MIDIDriverToolsandthePS60Editor/PlugInEditor. 1. Inserttheincludedaccessorydiscintoyouroptical discdrive. NormallythePS60ApplicationInstallerwillstartup automatically. Ifyourcomputerissetsotheinstallerdoesnotrun automatically,doubleclickKorgSetup.exeonthe accessorydisc.

Installing the KORG USB-MIDI driver


UsetheKORGUSBMIDIDriverToolstoinstallthe KORGUSBMIDIdriver. Beforeyoucontinue,youmustfinishinstallingtheKORG USBMIDIDriverToolsinyourcomputer. 1. UseaUSBcabletoconnectyourcomputersUSBport tothePS60sUSBconnector.Thenpoweronthe PS60. WhenyourcomputerfirstdetectsthatthePS60is connected,theWindowsdefaultdriverwillbe installedautomatically.Howeversincethisdriveris nottheKorgUSBMIDIdriver,itcannotbeused correctly. Note:IfyouareusingWindowsXPorWindowsVista, thedrivermustbeinstalledseparatelyforeachUSB portusedtoconnectthePS60.IfyouconnectthePS60 toaUSBportotherthantheportthatyoupreviously used,youllneedtoinstalltheKORGUSBMIDIdriver againusingthesameprocedurelistedabove. 2. Fromthetaskbar,click[Start][All Programs][KORG][KORGUSBMIDIDriver Tools][InstallKORGUSBMIDIdevice]. Thesetuputilitywillstart. 3. Followtheonscreeninstructionstoinstallthe KORGUSBMIDIdriver. Duringtheinstallation,ifadialogboxregardingdigi talsignaturesappearswithamessagesaying....has notpassedWindowslogotesting,simplyclick[Con tinue]toproceed. Ifyouareunabletoproceedwiththeinstallation,its possiblethatyourcomputerhasbeensettoprohibit installationofunsigneddrivers.Checkthesettingsof yourcomputerasdescribedinAllowinginstallation ofdriversthatarenotdigitallysigned. 4. AfteryouveinstalledtheKORGUSBMIDIdriver, exittheinstaller. Ifyouareaskedwhetheryouwanttorestart,choose [Yes]torestartyourcomputer. Formoreaboutinstallation,setup,oruninstallationof theKORGUSBMIDIdriver,refertotheinstallation manual(HTML). Toviewthemanual,choose[Start][AllPro grams][KORG][KORGUSBMIDIDriver Tools][InstallationManual].

2. Fromthelist,selecttheapplicationsthatyouwantto install,andclick[Install]. Theapplicationsyouselectedwillbegintheinstalla tionprocess. IfyouwanttoconnectthePS60toyourcomputervia theUSBport,youmustinstalltheKorgUSBMIDI DriverTools.ThenfromwithintheKorgUSBMIDI DriverTools,youwillneedtoinstalltheKorgUSB MIDIdriver.(InstallingtheKORGUSBMIDIdriver onpage 2) 3. Followtheonscreeninstructionstoinstallthe software. Whenyouclickthe[Install]buttonforthePS60Editor/ PlugInEditorinstep2,thePS60Editor/PlugInEdi torInstallerdialogboxwillappear.

Allowing installation of drivers that are not digitally signed (Windows XP only)
Ifthecomputeryoureusinghasbeensettoforbidthe installationofanydriversthatarenotdigitallysigned, youwontbeabletoinstalltheKORGUSBMIDIdriveror theFireWireAudio/MIDIdriver.Proceedasfollowsto changethissettingsothatyoullbeabletoinstallthe drivers. 1. Fromthetaskbar,click[Start][ControlPanel]to accessthecontrolpanel. 2. Inthecontrolpanelwindow,doubleclick[System], andthenclickthe[Hardware]tab. 3. InDrivers,click[DriverSigning].

Local Ctrl settings


TheMIDIsoftwareonyourcomputermighthaveanEcho BackfunctionwheremessagesthatarereceivedatMIDI IN/USBareretransmittedwithoutchangefromMIDI OUT/USB. IfyourMIDIsoftwaresEchoBackisturnedonwhenthe PS60isbidirectionallyconnectedwithyourcomputer, thePS60sinternalsoundgeneratorwillreceiveduplicate messages(theinternallygeneratedmessagesaswellas themessagesreceivedviaechoback),whichwillcause problemssuchaseachnotebeingsoundedtwice. Insuchcases,youcansolvetheproblembyturningthe PS60slocalcontrolsettingOffsothatthesignalrouteis internallydisconnectedinsidethePS60. Withthefactorysettings,thePS60slocalcontrolsetting (LocalCtrl)isturnedOn.(PS60OwnersManualon page42) Note:WhenusingthePS60byitself,leavethelocalcontrol setting(LocalCtrl)turnedOn.IfthisisOff,nosound willbeproducedwhenyouplaythePS60skeyboard. Note:ThePS60Editor/PlugInEditorwillautomatically setthePS60slocalcontrolsettingtotheappropriatestate whenthesoftwarestartsup.

Beforeyouverifythatthesoftwareisoperatingcorrectly, makesurethatyouvecompletedthefollowingsteps. ThePS60sUSBconnectorisconnectedtoyour computersUSBport. ThePS60andyourcomputerarebothpoweredon. TheKorgUSBMIDIdriverisinstalledfortheUSB portyoullbeusing. ThePS60Editor(standaloneversion)isinstalledon yourcomputer. 1. StartupthePS60Editor. Windows Inthetaskbar,clickthe[Start]buttonandthen[All Programs].Fromthemenu,chooseKORGPS60 PS60Editortostartuptheeditor. Alternatively,youcannavigatetotheKORGfolder PS60folder,anddoubleclickthePS60Editor.exe iconlocatedthere. TheKORGfolderwillbeinthelocationthatyou selectedwheninstallingthesoftware.Bydefault,it willbeintheProgramFilesfolder. Macintosh NavigatetotheApplicationsfolderKORGfolder PS60folder,anddoubleclickthePS60Editoricon. Whenyoustartup,datawillbetransmittedand receivedbetweenthePS60andthePS60Editor.The PS60sdisplaywillindicateNowtransmittingand thePS60EditorwillindicateSynchronizing...while thesynchronizationdataisexchanged. 2. Tosimplifythetestingprocess,selectperformanceA 1,whichusesSinglesettings. TopressthePERFORMANCEBANKbuttonontheleft sideofthePS60spaneltoselectbankA,andthenpress button1totheright. 3. WhenyoupressoneofthePS60stimbreselectorON buttons,thecorrespondingbuttonintheupper middleareaofthePS60Editorwindowandthe timbrefieldontheleftsidewillswitchaccordingly. InthesamewayasifyouclicktheeditorsON buttonsorthefieldstotheleft,thesettingsonthe PS60itselfwillswitchaccordingly.
