GO RADAR
Native Multichannel Loudness Meter

Capture the essence of your loudness landscape at a glance for a complete and instant overview. Our innovative Loudness Radar Meter shows you Loudness History, Momentary Loudness, True-peak Level, Program Loudness and Loudness Range (LRA) in a single view.

Complete Loudness Overview - See It All at Once Ultimate Compliance - ITU BS.1770, ATSC A/85, EBU R128, etc. Stats and Logging - Peace of Mind when Delivering for Broadcast

Compatibility
LM6 Radar Loudness Meter is available in Audio Units, VST, AAX, AudioSuite and RTAS plug-in formats. No additional hardware such as Pro Tools TDM or PowerCore is needed - all you need is an iLok2 USB Key for holding the plug-in license. In short, you can use LM6 with hosts such as Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Nuendo, Wavelab, Sequoia, etc. on a Mac or PC and whether your productions are in mono, stereo or 5.1.

Always On
Because LM6 is designed for demanding hosts such as Final Cut Pro and Media Composer, we have paid special attention to 'sleeping beauty' functionality. Therefore, it works great even in environments restricted by screen space or by CPU resources. In other words, you can leave it on at all times for a quick overview without compromising computer performance.

Universal Descriptors
LM6 features two Universal Descriptors, by which the entire loudness 'landscape' of a program, film or music track can be precisely characterized. The left descriptor shows Loudness Range (LRA) which measures the average distance between soft and loud parts in your program material in LU. The right descriptor shows the all-important Program Loudness parameter. Depending on which broadcast standard you have to conform to, there is a certain target level that you must not exceed - and Program Loudness reflects that number in LUFS or LKFS. You can also decide to have these descriptors diplay other parameters such as 'max loudness' or 'sliding loudness'.

To learn more about LRA, Program Loudness, LU, LUFS, LKFS, etc., please visit our dedicated Loudness Website... (/loudness/loudnessexplained/)

Offline Measuring
If you use it in Pro Tools as an Audio Suite plug-in, you can even benefit from the off-line function and measure the loudness of your audio faster than real time. Below, you can see how off-line measuring works with AudioSuite. Note how the tracks get measured much faster than real time and how the radar display reflects the overall loudness landscape almost instantly. Also, even in offline mode, a log file of the measurement results is created for your documenting needs.

User Interface
Main Presets and main parameters such as descriptor settings (e.g. Loudness Range, Program Loudness, Sliding Loudness, Loudness Max, etc.) are found on the Main Page. You can also define whether you want to display LUFS or LKFS. The two parameter values are in fact identical, but some standards prefer the use of LUFS (such as EBU R128), while others prefer LKFS (auch as ATSC A/85).

Setup You will find detailed parameters on the Setup Page. For instance, you can define the destination of the logging file and adjust the Peak Indicator. Further, you can set details about how the Radar should operate. The speed of the radar is adjustable between 1 minute and 24 hours. This would also be the place to set the Momentary Loudness Range.

Stats Gain a complete statistical overview on this page. LM6 keeps track of detailed stats that you can save to a standard formatted text file for documentation and evaluation.

Radar Loudness History, Momentary Loudness, True-peak Level and flexible descriptors are combined to give you the ultimate loudness overview in a single view.

Crossing Platforms
The user interface of LM6 is similar to other TC Radar Loudness Meters found in LM2, TouchMonitors, System 6000, DB4 & DB8 or LM5D. So if you are already familiar with the radar, crossing platforms is seamless, and you are sure to always get the correct numbers - also when working in a DAW.

Loudness Website
There are many aspects to loudness, and keeping track of all of them can be a challenge. Therefore, we have created a dedicated loudness website, where all of these aspects are outlined, explained and discussed.

The site is an answer to the highly relevant question: "What Is Loudness, and Why Is It Important?"

Ultimate Compliance
We are proud to have taken part in defining several international broadcast standards by donating technology and submitting recommendations of which many are now integrated in these standards. Throughout the world, legislation on loudness in television is being introduced as we speak. Not all countries rely on the same standard and all of them are ever-evolving, but regardless of your location and which TC Electronic Loudness-related units you use, rest assured that you will always be compliant with the latest revision of the broadcast standard that you need to conform to.

ITU BS.1770
Defined by The International Telecommunication Union, the ITU BS.1770 recommendation is global and one of the most important broadcast standards as many other standards are based on it.

EBU R128
The P/LOUD group, which is part of The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has defined the R128 standard that applies to many European countries. (/loudness/broadcast-standards/)

Our broadcast products supports all revisions of BS.1770, including the latest BS.1770-3. (/loudness/broadcast-standards/)

ATSC A/85
ATSC A/85 is specified by The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and applies to US broadcasters. A/85 is rooted in BS.1770 Loudness and True-peak level and uses LKFS as loudness unit. (/loudness/broadcast-standards/)

TR-B32
Defined by the Association of Radio and Television Businesses (ARIB), TRB32 is a Japanese broadcast standard that builds on ITU BS.1770-2. (/loudness/broadcast-standards/)

OP-59
Operational practice by FreeTV, Australia, OP-59 is rooted in BS.1770 Loudness and True-peak level and recommends a speech based as well as a universal approach to audio normalization. (/loudness/broadcast-standards/)

Reviews

Mix by Brandon Hickey The most dazzling feature of the LM6 is the large radar meter that performs a revolving wipe, showing average loudness over a long duration. It can be set to span as short as a minute or as long as a day. The decibel resolution can be adjusted to cater to the needs of the particular project. Certainly, watching trends and deviations in this way rivals any other system yet devised for long-term loudness metering, especially when referencing the meter during tracking situations. Rather than looking back and forth between Pro Tools waveforms and the plug-in, the radars interpretation of the waveform paints a clear enough and meaningful picture on its own.

Music Connection by Barry Rudolph TC Electronic has been on the forefront of doing the science, developing standards and designing a long line of hardware tools to measure accurately, audio loudness over time. The LM6 Radar Loudness Meter plug-in, now for any DAW platform PC or Mac, displays true-peak warnings and true-peak bar graphs and conforms to all major broadcast standards. LM6 measures up to 5.1 channels of audio program loudness and provides a graphical histogram of their dynamic range over a pre-determined time period from 1 minute to 24-hours. In Pro Tools 10, I use the AAX version of the LM6 plug-in across my stereo bus to track and locate peaks (overs) when mixing music.

In the Press
Our history in digital audio dates back to 1985 and as pioneers in loudness, we took part in research studies and the definition of international broadcast standards right from the start.

Over the years, we have even donated technology that is now part of these open, international standards. That is why world-leading broadcast magazines often invite us to share our knowledge with their readers.
