A variation of our GX annular BOP, drilling contractors best annular in the business, the Annu-Flex combines a reliable subsea annular blowout preventer with a maintenance-free, exible underwater riser joint. Together, the BOP head/ex joint combination reduces overall stack height and requires fewer stack connections. The 18", 15,000 psi Hydril Pressure Control Compact ram BOP delivers proven reliability for safe operation in the harshest environments. Rated for water depths to 15,000+ ft, the Compact ram has worked on the seabed continuously for one year during drilling of a 34,000-ft well. It can also add hundreds of hours of drilling time annually when congured to seal upside-down as a Subsea Stack Test Valve (SSTV) so that required pressure tests can be completed with the drill pipe in place. This BOP has: Successfully held full rated working pressure at 300 F for eight hours using blind/shear rams; the tested unit then completed three additional closing cycles at low and high pressure Passed API temperature testing requirements to 350 F using blind/shear rams Passed API temperature tests to 500 F using fixed-bore rams All fixed-bore ram sizes on the 18-15 Compact ram are rated for this temperature Passed API pressure tests at temperatures as low as 30 F for 5" to 758" and 4" to 7" variable rams Sheared large-diameter pipe (16", 109 lb-per-ft, P-110) with closing pressure of 4,000 psi The bonnet seal carrier ring has a pressure-assisted design that enables the BOP to withstand external pressure differentials as high as 7,000 psi, equivalent to a depth of 15,000+ ft; this can occur in deep water in the event of a large pressure drop in the well bore A single set of high-performance elastomers handles both hot and cold temperature extremes Multiple-position lock uses a reliable, mechanical clutch to automatically lock the rams in a seal-off position Hydraulic manifold increases operating flexibility; it can be installed on either side of the BOP with the bonnets opening on the opposite side to t various stack congurations Corrosion-resistant alloy is used in ring grooves, bonnet sealing area, seat bores and piston rod bore seal area for long life

The Hydril Pressure Control GK annular blowout preventers eld-tested and proven design has provided world-class dependability and quality in surface applications for over 50 years. We test every GKs operating chambers to full working pressure to ensure strength, reliability and the ability to over-pressurize the chambers in emergencies. The GK provides quick, positive closing action with simplied controls to keep drilling uids in the hole when a blowout threatens. The packing unit permits closure on drill pipe, kelly, tool joints or tubing, and wireline as well as the open hole. Easy precharge and maintainance charging assemblies are included free with every purchase Outstanding durability with standard hydrogenated nitrile elastomer At-a-glance precharge and bladder verification with sight glass option Reduced downtime with field-replaceable diaphragms

Key Features
The GK makes maintenance easy and lengthens the time between packing unit changes and shop repairs. The key to these benets is a simple design that includes: A single packing unit that closes on any size pipe or open hole and handles stripping Only two moving parts: the piston and packing unit, for less wear and maintenance An optional latched head for fast, easy access to the packing unit and wear seals; the majority of GK annulars have a screwed head design

The Hydril Pressure Control GK Advantage


The packing unit for the GK annular BOP can hold full-rated working pressure and will close on an open hole. Before shipment, each packing unit is factory tested in a BOP to 50% of working pressure on open hole and 100% on pipe. The GK provides longer life when using genuine Hydril Pressure Control packing units, as shown in repeated testing. When the GK closes, the piston moves up, driving the elastomer and inserts inward where they quickly reach a xed position and form a steel ring that prevents the rubber from moving upward under wellbore pressure. After the ring is formed, feedable elastomer continues to ow inward around the inserts to create a positive seal on the drill string or open hole. Because the elastomer is primarily in compression, it resists tears, cuts and abrasions.

Drilling contractors have called the Hydril Pressure Control GX the best annular in the business for one reason: exceptional uptime. Its single packing unit has provided continuous service for as long as a year, and it has continued to hold pressure after exposure to extreme temperatures and extensive stripping. The GX can strip and seal on all pipe sizes and achieve complete shutoff. In the eld and in laboratory tests, GX units have: Passed an ABS-witnessed, 10,000-psi API pressure test at 270 F (132 C) Stripped more than 30,000 ft of 658" drill pipe with 8" tool joints Stripped 300,000 ft of 5" drill pipe with 638" tool joints before failure Held pressure in the field after 328 closing cycles plus stripping A latched head for fast, easy access to the packing unit and wear seals A replaceable wear plate that eliminates metal-to-metal contact between the packing unit inserts and the BOP head A pressure balanced piston design that allows use in ultra deep water

The Hydril Pressure Control GX Advantage


The packing unit for the GX annular BOP can hold full-rated working pressure after more closing cycles and stripping than any other unit available. The GX produces extra uptime from a signicantly larger reservoir of engineered elastomer, and a BOP design that precisely controls the position of unique, anged steel inserts. When the GX closes, the packing unit rubber drives the inserts inward, where they quickly reach a fixed position and form a steel ring that prevents the elastomer from extruding upward under wellbore pressure. After the ring is formed, feedable elastomer continues to flow inward around the inserts to create a positive seal on the drill string or open hole. Because the elastomer is primarily in compression, it resists tears, cuts and abrasions. When stripping, the steel inserts again remain xed. As various diameters of pipe and tool joints pass through the closed unit, the elastomer flows in and out. Even at higher wellbore pressures, the GX packing unit maintains precise control of seal-off tightness to permit a slight leak of drilling fluid that provides lubrication, optimizes pull-through forces and further prolongs packer life. Hydril Pressure Control IP pulsation dampeners extend the life and increase the efciency of suction, discharge and hydraulic ow system lines. Built for industrial and production applications, the non-wetted shell design reduces maintenance requirements while accommodating corrosive process liquids. Flexible and reliable, our dampeners/accumulators: Prolong the life of pump valves, fluid cylinders, system instrumentation, pipe and ttings by moderating pulsations on the discharge side of reciprocating pumps Facilitate acceleration head loss recovery on the suction side of reciprocating pumps Prevent water hammer damage by minimizing pressure surges. Arrest thermal expansion by absorbing additional fluid volume Protect rotating machinery and lube oil systems by supplying hydraulic uid over short intervals during pump or power failure

Key Features
Hydril Pressure Control IP dampeners are compact, easy to handle and install, and generally do not require external support. With an isolated body cavity that connes process uid to an elastomeric bladder, the IP features a cost-effective carbon steel shell and a eld-replaceable bottom plate the only wetted shell material. Superior corrosion resistance means IPs are especially well suited for corrosive applications including waste disposal, salt water injection, and use with acidic and caustic substances. Hydril Pressure Control PASAFE pulsation dampeners extend pump life and enhance piping system performance by controlling pressure and ow pulsations. Virtually maintenancefree and available in three specialized ow-through designs, PASAFE discharge dampeners and suction stabilizers are engineered specically to handle abrasive, corrosive, hightemperature and high-pressure uids in the most extreme environments. Hydril Pressure Control R-PASAFE dampeners are ideal for hightemperature or chemical applications including industrial and oil and gas drilling applications that can cause compatibility problems with elastomers. The ow-through design of every C-PASAFE unit effectively reduces ow and accelerationinduced pulsations in reverse-osmosis applications. S-PASAFE combination units, with both large liquid volume and gas volume, are particularly well suited for slurry and mine dewatering applications. All PASAFE pulsation dampeners: Increase safety and reliability by requiring no gas precharging Handle pressure requirements to 15,000 psi without any reduction of pulsation Require no replacement of internal parts for greater ease of use and economy of ownership

Our Hydril Pressure Control Quik-Loq is a Boltless blowout preventer that increases drilling efciency while maximizing the safety of eld personnel and protection of the environment. It achieves all these goals by eliminating the need for tools during ram and operator changeouts. With Quik-Loq, changeouts are completed 90% faster, in minutes rather than hours. Well suited for surface and subsea operations, this state-of-the-art BOP offers all of the performance of our proven Compact ram, and has successfully completed tests including: A mud soaked drilling environment Life-cycle testing that simulated over a decade of normal operation Successfully held full rated working pressure at 300 F for eight hours using blind/shear rams; the tested unit then completed three additional closing cycles at low and high pressure Passed API temperature testing requirements to 350 F using blind/shear rams Passed API temperature tests to 500 F using xed-bore rams Passed API pressure tests at temperatures as low as 30 F for 5" to 758" and 4" to 7" variable rams Sheared large-diameter pipe (16", 109 lb-per-ft, P-110) with closing pressure of 4,000 psi

The Quik-Loq is designed from the inside out to make all operations easy, fast and safe while increasing uptime. They protect personnel and equipment by reliably stopping unexpected surges of oil, gas and drilling mud from the well bore. They seal the annulus around drill pipe, casing or tubing; or they can shear the drill string. Our portfolio includes these types of rams: Blind Pipe Blind shear Tubing Casing Variable Casing shear Wireline shear Fixed bore Blind rams can be provided on all our BOP models, while shear rams may require larger than standard operator size. Blind ram Our blind rams have the ability to completely shut off an open hole while holding full-rated pressure at 350F. Blind shear Our blind shear rams will completely shut off the well after they have completed the shear. They will hold the full rated pressure and are rated per API standards to 350F. These rams are recommended for all applications using 958" diameter pipe and below. Casing shear Unlike blind shears, casing shears do not have sealing capability. However, their advantage is the capability to shear larger pipes almost any round pipe that will t through the BOP bore can be sheared by the Hydril Pressure Control casing shear ram. Fixed bore Our Hydril Pressure Control fixed bore rams have the ability to seal on any API casing size, drill pipe or tubular. Wireline shear The wireline shear is a special type of blind shear ram. Its distinctive design keeps the upper and lower blades in very close proximity to each other, allowing the unit to shear small cables along with the pipe.

the Hydril Pressure Control variable ram
Our Hydril Pressure Control variable rams (HVRs) are designed to securely and reliably close and seal on a wide range of pipe sizes. Universal seal-off The HVR has a universal seal-off feature that is especially useful on a drill string that does not have a constant diameter over its length or when multiple diameters of drill pipe are used. Two BOPs with variable rams can be used on a tapered string to provide a backup for all drill-pipe sizes. This application eliminates having one pipe ram for small diameter pipe and one for large diameter pipe. If a BOP stack is assembled with a blind or blind shear ram and two sets of HVRs, the HVRs will seal over the BOPs complete range providing the backup seal-off capability needed on a tapered string. Our Hydril Pressure Control variable ram is therefore ideally suited to subsea use by expanding the seal-off capability of each cavity within a BOP.

Large volume of feedable rubber The ram-block upper seal provides a large volume of feedable rubber to deliver a long and dependable service life. Excellent compatibility All Hydril Pressure Control rams have excellent functionality with our proven automatic multiple position locking (MPL) mechanism and the manual lock model. The automatic MPL ensures a positive mechanical lock at all positions of the variable ram. This means that the MPL automatically compensates as packer position changes as a result of wear over time, or if the ram blocks are changed to accommodate a different pipe size. Tested in the lab. Proven in the eld. The functional reliability of our Hydril Pressure Control rams has been proven by extensive testing in the lab and commercial use on wells operated around the world. Lab testing conducted per API 16A procedures includes: fatigue testing that has simulated over 1.5 years of service by numerous cyclic operations, pressure tests of the ram packers, and temperature testing to determine the high and low temperature limits of our standard packers.
