Brochure

A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler &

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create an original company logo and incorporate four quality images. . One should be clipped in Photoshop and textwrapped in InDesign and write at least 250 words o

Despcription:

For my brochure I chose to focus on only one of the many opportunities a program actually offers and I changed the name. Next, I found the four photos that I would need and once I found the South Africa outline with the flag inside of the shape I based my color scheme off of the colors in the flag. Then I created my logo, to create this I used the magic wand tool in Photoshop. Then, in InDesign I uploaded the image of South Africa and used it as the main image for the front side of my brochure. I also used the eyedropper tool and took the mustard yellow from the flag and made it the background color for my entire brochure. I then placed in my text and other images into the design as well. For the text wrap portion I chose to wrap my text around the Bengal tiger image that I fixed in Photoshop using the quick selection tool, I did this by placing my text and then my image into the design. After it was placed I used the text wrap tool and made the appropriate adjustments. I did a similar thing with the text but I used the text style tool instead. For my elephant image I placed it in the background of the inside of my brochure and turned the opacity to about 5%.

Logos

Three logo variations for the same company.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins

Objectives: Process:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

First I thought of the company name that I would be designing for. Next I used Adobe Illustrator to make my visions come alive. To create the first logo I used the pen tool to make the chop sticks and then I used the shape tool to make the circle. For the second logo I again used the shape tool to make two different rectangles and then I typed a C into a text box and clicked option and then dragged the C so that it would duplicate it. Next I used the eraser tool to make the second C look separated from the first C. For the last logo I used the pen tool to make my words look like they have been sliced to emphasize the chopped phrase in my logo. I chose three different fonts for each logo and made sure to have good contrast.

Montage
Description: Date:
2/15/14 An insperational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters and apply appropriate typography.

Process:

First I found the pictures on the internet and then I cropped the background image to be 8.5 x 11. Once in Photoshop I masked my background image and added a blurred filter. After I added this filter I went in with the brush tool and made certain parts of the building clear. Then I added the monkeys, used the lasso tool with a feather of 100 px and dragged that image into my picture. With black paint, 100% opacity, and the brush tool erased the hard edges off of the monkey image and then came back over the monkeys at about 30% opacity and flow. After I placed it correctly I added the Cambodian slogan and Cambodia text using two contrasting fonts that complimented each other nicely. The program I used to do all of these things is Adobe Photoshop.

Web Page

A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins Adobe Photoshop & TextWrangler Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS and identify hex colors for web design.

Process:

I created this web page using TextWrangler. Next I used the HTML/CSS codes that were provided by my teacher. Then I created a folder to hold my HTML and CSS documents so that they would be linked together. Next I resized my original logo image to the appropriate size for the web page, placed it in the folder, and then added it to the HTML document. I then wrote the 200 plus word text onto the webpage and opened my background image in Photoshop. After that I used the eyedropper tool to find the correct colors to use for my webpage and based my color scheme off of that. I also changed these colors and the fonts in the CSS document. Next I changed the sizing of the header text and the alignment of that text and my logo image. Finally I took a screen shot of my web page and created a document in Photoshop to print and upload to my blog.

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins

Objectives:

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process:

For the business card I used the rectangle and text tools. First I created the 3.5 x 2 rectangle for the correct sizing of the card and then I placed a gray rectangle inside of it to fill it. Next I placed the gold image on each side for a nice border and then I used the text tool to write my brand name. The font size for Fashion Fever is 20pt so that it captures my audiences attention and then the information underneath is 12pt. I also decided to create a back side for my card because I felt that all of my personal information wouldnt look good on the front side. I used the same tools as I did for the front and Kylee Benesh is 12pt font and the other info. is 10 pt.

Imaging
Description: Date:
2/8/14 A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins Canon PowerShot Camera & Adobe Photoshop Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:

I first took the while incorporating the beautiful lighting that was happening during sunset with a Canon PowerShot SX510 HS. Then I edited it in Photoshop using these tools: levels, selective color, vibrance, and exposure. Then I designed an 8.5 x 11 layout that included my photo, text, and color scheme. Next I added the color wheel into my project and used the eye dropper tool to match the colors from the wheel to my background. I also added my color scheme title and color swatches into the design, I added the ovals and rectangles using the shape tool. Lastly, I aligned the text with the picture.

Event Ad
Description: Date:
2/1/14 A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools: Objectives:

Comm 130 Section 07 - Joel Judkins Microsoft Word - Epson Scanner & PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter) Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

First, I scanned the mask image and then used a word image effect to delete the existing background. Next I used the shape tool to create the outline around the poster and the mask and text. I also used a color filler to fill in the rounded rectangle around the mask so it would add more appeal to the project. Next I found a couple of feather images online to add more detail and repetition and to also give it that masquerade ball feel. I chose one font that really grasped the themes concept and then another one that complimented it nicely. My favorite tool was the reorder icon, that helped make things a lot easier for this project. Programs I used were Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, and PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter.

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

I first created a few sketches of my layout. Then I chose one of my sketches and used it as a guideline to create this flier in Adobe InDesign.
