After adding a little yellow color I added the drip of juice using the pen tool. I then added the text with the logo. The shape of my business card outline resembles a lemon.

Description: Three original logos that represent an antique shop. Date: 2/22/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator CS6 Objectives: Apply newly learned skills in Adobe Illustrator. Create 3 different logos with at least 2 different logo design styles to be used to represent a specific company. Process: I first sat down and brainstormed what kind symbol/company to go with. I knew I wanted all of my logos to be simple with one signature object. After going through dozens I decided to use to clothespin as a symbol for an antique shop. Using Adobe Illustrator CS6 I first created the clothespin. I had a photo of clothespin design I liked up in a second window next to my illustrator window and I just looked back and forth while making it. I started with a simple rectangle that was filled. I then used different shapes (circles, lines and triangles) to show the details of the clothespin. I grouped them all together and then played with different font types and arrangements. I used the technique we learned in the tutorial on creating outlines with the text. This allowed me to use the unique fonts I have on my computer in correlation with the printers elsewhere that dont have those fonts. I used the pen tool several different times to manipulate text and objects the way I wanted them to be and I definitely used the eyedropper tool to match the colors of different objects.

Description: Promotional flier in black & white to promote a graduate leadership conference. Date: 1/25/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign CS6 Objectives: My goal was to reach out to recent college graduates who have a desire to bring a modern influence into their future careers and leadership opportunities. This flier was meant to inform them of an opportunity to learn how to do so. Process: With my extremely limited design knowledge I started by creating sketches. At first I based my design on one of my sketches but as I got further into my project my design changed completely. The content, image and logo were given to me to use before beginning this project. I used the photo as a large focal point in my design surrounded by repeating diagonal lines created with the rectangle tool. I created contrast by using different shades of gray, black and white. I used white space and left alignment to direct the eye through the flier. I created the flier in Adobe InDesign. Not knowing anything about the program, this project was very challenging for me. As a result, I learned a lot about InDesign and feel confident in using the program again.

Description: A two sided (duplex) folding brochure. Date: 3/29/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6 Objectives: Make the specialties of Yates Cosmetic Dentistry known to the public Process: researched fold designs and ideas. I really liked the idea of a simple/modern one-fold brochure. I created my Adobe InDesign document, tweaking the dimensions to my liking, making notes as to which panels of my layout needed to be upside down or right side up. I then created a new logo in Adobe Illustrator after gathering inspiration through Pinterest. I used the rounded rectangle tool and the pen tool to manipulate the shapes in the logo. I then added type the the logo: Yates Cosmetic Dentistry. I decided to go with a black background with a white logo and text to make my design clean, crisp and attention grabbing. I added my logo that I had created to that black background on the front panel of my brochure and adjusted things accordingly. I also added contact information on the back panel of the brochure in white text over a solid black background. Before beginning the design on the inside of my brochure I chose photos from the internet (cited below). I chose one of the images that I wanted a text wrap around. I imported that photo into Adobe Photoshop and used the quick selection tool (W) to clip my image the way I wanted it. I then placed this clipped photo into my InDesign document and wrapped text around it by going to window-text wrap. After placing my other images, I added repeating black rectangles of different shapes to my design to. These shapes go well with the logo I created. I then added text to my design.

Description: A web page to showcase and explain the process of making one of my personally designed logos. Date: 3/15/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools:Text Wrangler & Adobe Photoshop CS6 Objectives: Show that my logo represents an antique store for the modern woman/man who enjoys using vintage decoration and style in her home. Process: Having very minimal experience with html and css, I created this web page using Text Wrangler. I had never used this program before, I had mainly only used notepad++. I liked the way the program was set up, it made things very convenient. I wrote an original html document and then connected it to a premade css document. It was nice to be able to see changes I was making while I was working. The colors that were originally in the css document were nowhere close to what I wanted, so I replaced them with my own colors. I did this by going to photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I loved learning how to use the eyedropper tool in other windows. Brilliant! I changed my body background color and I also used an image for my html background. I changed the fonts to Calibri and Arial as well. I dont particularly like doing this kind of work, but Ive definitely gained a respect for web designers and developers.

Description: A full-bleed photo design project to display my image editing skills, successful use of the color wheel and principles of design. Date: 2/8/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS6 & Adobe InDesign CS6 Objectives: Encourage my audience to enjoy the beauty and detail of simple things. Process: I started by choosing my big split complementary color scheme (brick, teal, gold, and violet). I then shot several different photos and edited them in Adobe Photoshop adjusting the levels and vibrancy of the image, using selective color adjustments and the sharpen tool. Using one of the photos that I edited, I created a design to showcase my photo editing abilities and my understanding of the use of the color wheel and especially my chosen color scheme. I incorporated the four colors I chose into my design while also conveying a message through my picture and layout.

Description: An inspirational montage poster using a composite of images and type. Date: 2/15/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS6 Objectives: Convey the message that life can be dark, uncomfortable and intimidating, but we have a light to guide us in the direction we need to go. Hope on. Journey On. Process: I created this montage using Adobe Photoshop CS6. I started with a photo of a tunnel. I adjusted the coloring using the selective color adjustment to brighten up the photo and highlight the colors of the art on the tunnel walls. I then used another photo of a woman walking down a street, selected around her using the lasso tool and drug her into my tunnel image. I wanted the person walking to be in white specifically to contrast with the dark tunnel colors. I used the brush tool to blend her into the tunnel picture. I then added my text; I chose a quote from Elder Holland from his General Conference remarks. I changed the fonts and colors and then used the Hard Light blending mode for the text layer. I also used the brush tool on the text to blend things the way I wanted them. I then added a third image of a compass. I adjusted the photo and used the brush tool to blend. I then added a water paper filter on top of everything and used the brush tool to take away the filter effects where I didnt want them.

Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner. Date: 2/1/14 Course/Instructor: Comm 130-03, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Microsoft Word Objectives: To learn how to use only Microsoft Word to design in case of a need to do so in the future. Process: I started by scanning my image with a personal scanner. I adjusted the image to make sure it was high quality. I then used Microsoft Word to design the entire ad. I used the Image editing in word to alter the color of my image to fit a little better with my split complimentary color scheme (teal, red and orange). I used text boxes to place all of my text in the ad and formatted the images so I could freely move them where I pleased. I chose colors for the text by using the magnifying glass (equivalent of the eyedropper tool in Adobe software) to repeat colors that were in my scanned image.
