&rade(s)* seven Overvie. of Unit To/ic,T+e0e: Title of Unit* eart+ science, -eolo-y

This unit will be an exploration into the composition of planet Earth from the macro (the constituent parts of the planet: atmosphere, lithosphere, etc.) to the micro (specific components and factors: internal structure, formational aspects, rocks and minerals). The key concepts that will be explored will be the planet as a whole, internal structures, land formation, the rock cycle, types of rocks and mineral identification.
Rationale for Unit !part from earth sciences bein" a part of the curriculum for "rade # science, $ ha%e a an interest in earth sciences and "eolo"y and wish to introduce the students to the complex, ama&in" aspects and systems that exist and occur on as well as in the planet we li%e on. The better we can understand how the planet is comprised, how the indi%idual systems work to"ether and the impact that we, as humans, ha%e on it, the more likely it will be that future "enerations will ha%e a positi%e impact on the health of our planet. $t is rele%ant to the students at this time as en%ironmental concerns, increased occurrences of natural disasters and human impact on the planet are increasin"ly in the forefront of planetary issues and concerns. The "reater knowled"e base we ha%e re"ardin" these factors, the better prepared we will be to deal with them when encountered. $ist t+e Provincial $earnin- Outco0es (P$Os):
