Multidisciplinary Patient Care Navigator to Help Patients at Brinton Lake

The Crozer-Keystone Regional Cancer Center at Brinton Lake recently welcomed a multidisciplinary patient care navigator, Maria Malloy, R.N., B.S.N., OCN, to its team. As a navigator, she specializes in meeting the multidisciplinary needs of all cancer patients. She assists patients recently diagnosed with cancer through the process of making appointments, following up with physicians and most importantly understanding the process of their care. Malloy provides patients with care coordination, education and support to help them get the services they need during their treatment and recovery. Patient care navigators are nurses who coordinate a plan of care for patients, from initial testing to consultations with surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists. They focus on educating patients and families, helping them to facilitate communication with other physicians, joining support groups and aiding in insurance matters. My role is to assure patients that they receive efficient and quality care, she says. So often, when a person gets a diagnosis of cancer, they go through a period of shock and fear. I am the person to help them get through their emotions and help them navigate their care, she explains. Crozer-Keystone offers navigators for breast, colorectal and lung cancer patients at all Crozer-Keystone hospitals. Additional patient care navigators include: Mary Rooney, R.N, B.S.N., OCN, CBCN, Crozer Regional Cancer Center, specializing in the needs of breast cancer patients. Patti Hollenback, R.N., B.S.N., OCN, Crozer Regional Cancer Center, specializing in the needs of lung cancer and colorectal cancer patients. Marge Franke, R.N., M.B.A., Delaware County Regional Cancer Center, specializing in the needs of lung cancer and colorectal cancer patients.

Alicia McCann, R.N., B.S.N., Delaware County Regional Cancer Center, specializing in the needs of breast cancer patients. Barbara Morley, R.N., CBCN, Crozer-Keystone Health System, assisting uninsured or underinsured breast cancer and cervical cancer patients at all Crozer-Keystone Health System facilities. I am very excited that we have a navigator for our cancer patients at Brinton Lake. The navigator is a very valuable resource and will not only help facilitate the multidisciplinary approach, but assist with expediting appointments and providing compassionate care at a very difficult time for patients, says Marie DeStefano, R.N., M.S.N., FAAMA, senior administrative director of Oncology for CrozerKeystone Health System. The Crozer-Keystone Regional Cancer Center, opened in late 2011, is home to three oncology practices, radiation oncology services, PET-CT capabilities and surgical specialists. The center is located at 500 Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills. Malloy can be reached at (610) 579-3617 or maria.malloy@crozer.org.
