Our Hearts Rise, with Christ, from Winter to Life
Thank you for giving me such a memorable winter here on the peninsula! Well, I think it has been a memorable winter for all of us. With the bitter cold, snow, and ice, it has certainly been a winter to remember. There was a time that many of us thought we might never see the end of it, yet here we are, with Easter right around the corner. My favorite Easter hymn has always been, Now the Green Blade Rises, written by a nineteenth -century Scottish minister, John McLeod Campbell. The hymn makes the connection between Christs death and resurrection and a seed that has been planted in the ground that now springs forth with life. For many of us this winter has also been a winter of grieving and pain, a winter of our hearts. With Christ, our hearts can become spring again. We are called back to life, to rise with Christ, like a beautiful green blade that rises from the buried grain.
Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; love lives again, that with the dead has been;

love is come again like wheat arising green.

Ukrainian Egg Decorating

Sunday, April 13, Palm Sunday
Immediately following church at St. Paul, Lunch provided! Come get a chance to create Easter Eggs that are a piece of art. First the eggs are blown out then you will apply hot wax to them to preserve what you want to stay the colors you dye them. You will be using a candle to heat up the wax and to remove it at the end. The class will be taught by Ginny Baughman, my Mom, who has been teaching the class for years. It is a part of our heritage that we look forward to sharing with you! Cost for supplies are half price! $10.00 for the first family member and $5.00 for everyone after that. If money is an issue please, please let me know and we can work something out. *This class is for kids 10 and up, since we will be using an open flame. -Pastor Aaron

Sunday, May 4 at 5 pm at St. Paul. Women from St. John and St. Paul and their guests are welcome, including sons. The program will be a magician The Great Brad. The dinner will be served by Averys in Marblehead. The menu is Roast Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, garden salad, roll and butter, beverages, cookies and cupcakes. Hi again! This month we have some exciting events coming up with side by side youth! This month we will be having a Spring into Games night from 4:30pm 9:00pm on Sunday April 6. After our daylight savings party being such a big hit we have decided to have another game night! We will start off with a dinner followed by an evening where you can play board games, card games, or just hang out with your friends. Once again this event is open to youth of all ages, so come one, come all to enjoy the fun! St. John from Port Clinton will be joining us again. Be sure to bring you friends! If you have a son or daughter graduating from High School or College, please let us know at the church office so they can be listed in the next newsletter. All parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and anyone else may contact us to give us their names, where they are graduating from, and their degree. Can you tell us what their plans are also? We will celebrate all graduations on Sunday, June 1st during worship.

St. John Lutheran Church March council highlights: We opened with a devotion of Jesus coming to us all because that is what Gods Love is. Pastor Chris and Pastor Aaron presented their monthly reports. The minutes of the February meeting were read and accepted as written. The treasurers report was presented and accompanied with a list of memorial funds. Our financial secretarys report was presented. There were $6351.62 in receipts. Committee Reports: For buildings and grounds, council discussed needed repairs and improvements for the parish hall. We will create a wish list for projects. Outreach Activities: We set a tentative date for our annual Sundaes on Saturday in June.

February 2014 budget highlights: General Fund - General Fund income- $10,905.16 General Fund expense-$8,903.38 Restricted Funds - Restr icted Funds income- $152.00 Restricted Funds expense- $6,965.04 Highlights of March 13 Council meeting: -Only six members present. No quorum. The new Portals of Prayer beginning with April are in the rack by the bulletin board. We have regular and large print.

-Matt Seamon led a short meeting.

-MayAnn Laubner and Helen Stines have volunteered to archive all minutes and historical papers of St. John and St. Paul Churches. They are asking councils for $110.80 to cover the cost of archival envelopes. -Pastor Aaron said our router needs to be moved to a more central location to cover all the church offices. He spent $204.00 with councils permission and would need to be reimbursed. -Pastor Chris would like to have an Easter egg hunt off the community luncheon with the Easter bunny this year. Also, because of Dick Arns illness someone else will need to head up the garden team this year. We hope to have raised beds. -Casey Scott is looking into a grant to fund future parenting classes. -Matt Seamon said we would need to have a congregational meeting as soon as possible to get started on removal of asbestos from the basement. We pray for family and friends in the armed forces . For families who mourn the passing of loved onesLiddie Elizabeth Laubner (on February 23), and Dick Arn (on March 23). May God comfort them in their sorrows with the hope of the resurrection. WELCA- The regular meeting and Bible Study for April will be April 17th at 1:00 pm. Laurel Berhent will be hostess. All women are invited.

WELCA will be hosting a Bingo party at Edgewood Nursing Home on Monday, April 14th at 2:00 pm. Anyone is welcome to come along to assist the residents and have a good time.
The WELCA North Central Spring Conference is April 26th at Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville. Registration begins at 8:30 am and the program begins at 9:00 am. The guest speaker is Jeff Wilbarger, Founder and Director of The Daughter Project. They help victims recover from sex trafficking. Registration must be in by April 18th. Please let Louise Rogers know if you would like to go. $10.00 also covers the lunch. Registration forms are in the office. The Monthly Project Contributions for April are: Cer eal for the Food Pantr y, 8x10 70 sheet ruled school tablets for the school kits, and sturdy combs for the personal care kits.
