BN2225 PORTFOLIO ENTRY

NAME: Hamza Hussain CANDIDATE/STUDENT NO: TEAM NAME: ndiGO SEMINAR GROUP NO: F3
Background Within our team we had selected one team member as the managing director of the group. The role of the managing director created a leader-member relationship within our team. Consequently, the strength of this relationship would vary and this was measured by several surveys. The feedback from the surveys produced results of how our teams leader-member relationship changed over time. Action(s) Taken Every two weeks each member from the group had completed a survey consisting of several questions. While the surveys were being completed our managing director had attended a leadership skills workshop. By completing the surveys our team had received a feedback report reflecting various results. These included results for our leader-member relationship showing the effects before and after the leader workshop. Outcome The results for my teams leader-member relationship were 2.16, 2.25 and 2.34. Thus showing an increase, reflecting a positive relationship between the leader and individual team members. Therefore the leadership workshop had a positive impact on the leader improving leadership skills, which lead to improvements in the teams leader-member relationship. After the leadership workshop our leader had better skills that improved the performance of the team. This was evident, as we had worked together with no conflicts to complete the group report. As well as this we started to work better on the simulation after the leadership workshop, which led to increasing profits for each round. Learning Based upon my experience I have learned how better leadership skills improve the relationship between a leader and the team. I have become aware of the strong relationship between a good leader and a positive relationship within a team. In addition I have learnt that improving leader-membership relationship leads to a more motivated team thus improving overall team performances.

Further Development Blagg & Young (2001) discuss the difference between a leader and a manager and how both traits lead to an effective leader. The people who are the most effective are those who essentially are both managers and leaders. Consequently, in the future I will research into other perspectives of what makes a good leader and the effect of a good leader on a team. References
