You have recently started a new role as a senior manager in a small but rapidly growing organisation. The managing director is not a human resource specialist so she has asked you to oversee the human resource function of the business. She believes that this role may become too large as the business continues to grow. She would like you to investigate human resource management issues further in order to develop a deeper understanding of: the role and importance of human resource management in achieving organisational effectiveness the formulation and implementation of human resource strategies contemporary issues affecting strategic human resource management.

You are then required to assess a range of human resource strategies that may be implemented within the organisation. Activity 1 As the organisation continues to grow, the managing director has asked you to prepare a clear and informative guide to help her understand the importance of human resource management and implementation strategies. Your information guide must cover the following topics: a) a definition of strategic human resource management b) an explanation of the importance of human resource management in organisations c) an analysis of the framework of strategic human resource management. Your guide should demonstrate an understanding of the formulation and implementation of human resource strategies. You should: d) analyse the strategic human resource process e) assess the roles in strategic human resource management f) analyse the development and implementation of human resource strategies. Assessment Criteria 1.1/1.2/1.3/2.1/2.2/2.3 Activity 2 The managing director was impressed by your clear and informative guide. She would like to give a presentation to the board of directors on the contemporary issues affecting strategic human resource management. The presentation must cover the following topic: identification and analysis of the contemporary issues affecting strategic human resource management.

You will need to produce a presentation for her, the accompanying notes for the presentation and have appropriate hand-outs for the board detailing the information covered. Assessment Criteria 4.1/4.2

The suggested evidence listed below is how students can demonstrate that they have met the required standards. Activity number 1 ACs 1.1/1.2/1.3/2.1/2.2/2.3 Suggested evidence Learners must demonstrate they have considered a broad number of different definitions and characteristics of human resource management. The information guide must demonstrate learners understanding of the role and importance of human resource management in achieving organisational effectiveness. Effectiveness should include reference to a range of business objectives including: legal requirements; alignment with corporate strategy, improving organisational performance. The guide should be in an appropriate format suitable for the audience given in the assignment. The presentation should cover all the main topics stated in the task, demonstrating analysis of relevant contemporary issues. The presentation format is flexible but must be supported by detailed notes, which demonstrate an understanding of a range of contemporary issues affecting strategic human resource management. The issues considered should be current and therefore may differ from the indicative content listed in the specification. The handouts prepared by the learner must be detailed with appropriate style and content for the identified audience. The report should be structured in a formal way with clear layout and appropriate presentation. A wide range of strategies should be identified. Learners should include an assessment of HR strategies and an assessment of their application to a chosen organisation. Assessments should be comprehensive and appropriate for the demands of Level 6 work.
