LET'S PLAY RELIGION

Sandi likes to play house. She offers her dolls crackers and marshmellows and pretends that the dolls munch them. Of course, the dolls never

benefit from these treats. So Sandi must eventually eat the treats herself. Our neighbors do something similar. They regularly offer choice

fruits and meats to their dead parents and grandparents.

Thus, they hope to

take good care of their loved ones. But physical food can't feed spirits. The dead can't benefit from fruits and meats. So in the end, the living family must eat the food itself. They can never be certain that they have
satisfactorily provided for their loved ones. Oh how it could put their hearts at ease to know that God, who sustains life on earth, also provides for those on the other side of death, and there is nothing we need to do or Ccui do.
I WISH I HAD KNOWN HIM

Recently, we were priviledged to visit with J. ^ssell Morse, the great pioneer missionary. Now f he T s s a g e . A legend in his own lifetime, Sis vast contribution to the cause of Christ is
immeasurable. About 80,000 Christians in North Burma are a result of the work

he started.

His testimony has inspired countless young people (me, for one)

to fulltime Christian service.

Another missionary sage who has shaped my ministry recently is Also o y e r ^ A o l d s contributions to the spread of the "gospel are staggering. "I found it. You can find it too." is the slogan being used

by thousands of churches to attract millions to Christ in cities through

out the world. At first, I was opposed to the way Campus Crusade for

Christ had organized this campaign, because it actually hindered instead of

helping most churches from leading people to Christ.

But by the time the campaign got to Hong Kong, many of the
weaknesses had been remedied. I also believed that Tuen Mun was ready to

respond to the gospel, so we decided to take part. Little did I know that God was using us to answer the prayers of a group of ministers I had never
met.

I had been praying tliat God would show us some way to reach

responsive adults in Tuen Mun.

There was every reason to believe that this

campaign was God's answer, but at every turn Satan threw up apparent
obstacles, and God answered with replied prayers.

1. We joined within days of being too late to join.

2. Of some 30 training sessions scheduled, only two were

still available, and both conflicted with our services (which God neatly
fixed).

3. A traffic jam made me an hour late to the last training session. (Temptation kept saying 'Turn around and go home.) But because I was late, I accidentally got into the wrong section and got valuable
materials, I would not normally have gotten. 4. The Chinese ministers in our district did not know we

existed.

So by the time I met with them, they had already divided up

responsibilities.

There appeared to be no room for me to do anything.

didn't know they had been praying for someone from Tuen Mun to help,
because other ministers in Tuen Mun seemed uninterested in evangelism.

5. They had set aside one week to saturate the district with leaflets. They divided the district into six areas. Each day volunteers would gather in a different area and pass out leaflets.

They replied, "You and the other Tuen Mun ministers are."
'Surely not me,' I thought, 'I'm a forei^er, and a new comer to this area, besides.' So I began visiting the other Tuen Mun

ministers.

It soon became apparent that for good reasons none could help. My coworker Peter said, "What are you going to do? How can

No other

day had as many volunteers show up as God provided for Tuen Mun. The chaiirman brought six bundles of leaflets. He and I thought there were 500 in a bundle, or the 3,000 he had set aside. "Is that enough?" He asked.
"I don't think so." How could I,with 8,000 homes? So he

sent for more. But we were wrong. Each bundle had 1,000 not 500 leaflets. So about 8,000 leaflets were passed out in Tuen Mun that day. The response has been too good and willing workers too few. We have received over 100 names to followup. Many are children, but not all. Two adults really want to believe, but have doubts. One teen Christian just moved here, and couldn't find a church home. Others want to study the Bible more or be baptized. WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS for the younq faith that is beginning to develop in these few; for more workers in this ripe area (We've only followed up 1/3 of the prospects so far.); for places to hold Bible studies in each area (The prospects are really spread out.); for Joyce's health as

she battles_ a cold during the last month before the baby is due; for start ing a Christian fellowship in the city of Tsuen Wan that we and ^'Jayfull and"
Helen Jew feel a burden for doing as soon as possible.

In Christ,
