VITORIA
Located in the northeast of Spain, Vitoria is the capital of the
Basque country and has more open space per capita than
anywhere else in Spain. With its forty parks and plethora of
forests, it has one of the best standards of living in Europe!
Also home to the best preserved medieval old quarter of the
Basque region, designated a "historical site" since 1997,
Vitoria has then adapted its aesthetic tradition to
contemporary styles of architecture. For a region that is
legendary for its fiestas and celebrations, Vitoria will
certainly not disappoint you!

THE CITY#THECITY#
Vitorias origins go back to 1181 when King
Sancho VI founded a walled town to
protect the Kingdom of Navarre. Today
there are many reasons to go there. The
medieval quarter is one of the best historic
centres preserved in the north of Spain!
You will discover a rich history, such as the
churches dating from the Gothic period,
and the several palaces which reflect the
splendour of the Renaissance. The Baroque
style also left its mark, with a special
mention for the Church of San Miguel.
Vitoria has harmoniously combined its
historic past and modernity. The
neoclassical urban expansion to the south
is characterised by the many balconies
which overlook the bustling streets,
adorned by the works of numerous Basque
sculptors. There you will enjoy magnificent
walks in finely conceived parks and greens.
This "human scale" city has definitely been
built with respect to the environment!
Cultural dynamism is also part of Vitorias
identity. The Basque country is home to
hospitality, traditions, happiness and
fiestas! There is always something
happening, lots of museums and great
"pinchos" bars and restaurants!
