2.0 4.5 22.5
3.0 7.4 37.0
4.0 10.6 53.0
5.0 12.6 63.0
6.0 15.3 76.5

2.0 3.2 16.0
3.0 5.2 26.0
4.0 7.5 37.5
5.0 8.8 44.0
6.0 10.7 53.5

1. Label for e, x and v.

2. Unit for e, x and v correct.
3. All value for e correct and consistent 1
decimal place.
4. All value for x correct.
5. All value for x consistent in 1 decimal place.
2

6. All value for v correct.

7. All value for v consistent in 1 decimal place.

(c) √ label for e and v

√ label for unit e and v correct
√ use an even scale and suitable
plotting – √√ 5 points correct
- √ 4 or 3 points correct
√ best straight line – points must be
balance
√ size – large and filling two thirds of
the graph paper

7 ticks 5 marks
5-6 ticks4 marks
3-4 ticks3 marks
2 ticks 2 marks
1 tick 1 mark
(d) Speed is directly proportional to distance
of compression.// v  e

2(a) uv is directly proportional to u+v 1

(b) Triangle (minimum size)8cm x 8 cm 1
Gradient = 400/40 1
= 10cm 1
(c) 1/u + 1/v = 1/f 1
v+u/uv = 1/f 1
uv = f(u+v) 1
3

(d) f is the gradient of the graph of uv

against u+v 1
That is uv is directly proportional to 1
(u+v) 1
uv = m(u+v) 1
But uv = f(u+v)
Therefore f = m = 10 cm
(e) The experiment is repeated for 1
every value of u and the average
value of v is determined

(a) Making the right inference 1

The volume of gas depends on
temperature .
(b) Building an appropriate hypothesis 1
For the fix mass of gas the higher the
temperature , the bigger the volume
will be.
(c) (i) Stating the aim of the experiment 1
To investigate the relation between the
temperature and volume for a fixed
mass of gas.

(ii) Stating the correct variables

Manipulated variable : Gas 1
temperature, T
Responding variable : Gas volume, V 1
Constant variable : Gas pressure , P
// mass of gas, m
(iii List of appropriate apparatus and
) material 1
Beaker, stirrer , Bunsen burner,
capillary tube, tripod stand,
thermometer, ruler.
(iv Describing set up of the apparatus 1
)
(v) Stating the procedure of the experiment
1. The apparatus is set up as shown in

the diagram above. 1

2. Heat up the water with Bunsen

burner slowly and stir the water 1

until temperature reach 30 0C.
3. Measure the length of the air

trapped inside the capillary tube. 1
