PART 1: LEARNING OBJECTIVES The objective of this course is to familiarize the students with the fundamental concepts of Environmental Variables and relationship with business organization & management. Emphasis would be on the understanding of the role & responsibility of business for positive externalities of environment.. Attention will be more on some of the recent developments in Indian and global context. Outcomes: After completion of the course the student will be able to understand the role and responsibility in management of environment as a responsible corporate citizen for achievement of positive externalities. CONTENTS: Unit I Meaning of natural environment (NE) and its management. Types of environmental & ecological variable. Relationship of natural environmental with economics, policies, law, resource management and business organization. Role of business organization in management of natural environment. Unit II - Quality of environment, Environmental Regulation & Management - EU Approach, Russian Approach and US Approach of environment regulation & management. International Agreements & Indian Regulations. Cost of Environmental Protection vs. benefits to economy & benefits to industry. Demand of natural environment and demand of development. Equilibrium between components of environment and business & economic indicators. Trade-off between Cost of Capital vs cost of Environment. Unit III - Climate Changes (CC), Factors of CC, Injection of Green House Gas (GHG), CO2, Fossils Fuel in NE. IPCC & Kyoto-Protocol - classification of Group-A Countries, Group-B Countries and Group-C Countries. Production and Consumption Conflict on GHG, CO2 & Fossils Fuel between GA-GB and GG. Unit IV- Management of Environment - Environmental Protection, Individual Preference, market preference, CBA & Environment Management, NPV & Environmental Degradation, Incidence of Taxation & Environment Management. Demand-Supply and Management of Environmental Goods. WTP & WTA. Revealed Preference Pollution (AP, WP, SP, NP and Toxic Chemicals) and Profit. Pollution Quantity & Changes of Pollution on Land, Wages and Profit. Hedonic Price Theory. Pricing of Emission, Management of Environmental risk and uncertainty.
