If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his

body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. -Deut. 21:22,3

John 19
>>The Lords Fulfillments of prophecy::: Do these seem like prophecies to you? For my clothing (Ps. 22:18); I thirst (Ps. 69) ...look on Him who theyve peirced (Zech 12:10) Not one of His bones will be broken (Ps. 34:20, Ex. 12:43:6)

>>Note the difference between Pilate and Jesus. How does Jesus view authority? How does Pilate use authority? How do the Chief priests use their authority? What motivates each of these? Note the emptiness of the worlds convictions, of man without truth.

Most of these passages were taken as Messianic in Jewish interpretation. For example, the Zechariah passage is interpreted as follows in the Talmud,: What is the cause of the mourning [mentioned in the last cited verse]?1 R. Dosa and the Rabbis differ on the point. One explained, The cause is the slaying of Messiah the son of Joseph,7 and the other explained, The cause is the slaying of the Evil Inclination. It is well according to him who explains that the cause is the slaying of Messiah the son of Joseph, since that well agrees with the Scriptural verse, And they shall look upon me because they have thrust him through, and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for his only son;8 but according to him who explains the cause to be the slaying of the Evil Inclination, is this [it may be objected] an occasion for mourning? Is it not rather an occasion for rejoicing? Why then should they weep? [The explanation is] as R. Judah expounded: In the time to come9 the Holy One, blessed be He, will bring the Evil Inclination and slay it in the presence of the righteous and the wicked. -Talmud - Mas. Sukkah 52a

>>The Lords Death ::: Though the gospels are sometimes called Passion narratives with extended introductions , they spend very little time describing or explaining the meaning of the crucificion itself. Why do you suppose this is? In John the explanations are scattered through the gospel: 1:29; 6:51-3; 10:11,17; 11:51,2; 12:23-6; 12:31,2; 14:30,1

>>The Lords Mother::: Why do you suppose Jesus commended John and Mary to one another? Johns mother was already there (Matt 27:56), and we know that Mary had other sons and daughters. (Matt 13:55) >>The Lords Burial::: John is the only one who records Nicodemus help. A good bible teacher said that since the resurrection was to come so quickly, that all the spices and wrapping were a complete waste. Is this so? Does God care about bodies? Dead bodies? See Deut. 21:22-23; 1Sam 31:8-13; 2Sam 2:4-6; 2Sam 21:10-14 Gen 49:29-50:2; Gen 50:24-25)

The poor wretches have convinced themselves, first and foremost, that they are going to be immortal and live for all time, in consequence of which they despise death and even willingly give themselves into custody; most of them. Furthermore, their first lawgiver12 persuaded them that they are all brothers of one another after they have transgressed once, for all by denying the Greek gods and by worshipping that crucified sophist himself and living under his laws. -Lucian of Samosata Death of Peregrinus (13)
