I( I%& $D)C&I$% P) P$'E $" &HI' EAD!E "I#E The Printing System Installer Customization Wizard enables an administrator to customize the printing system installer that comes with the product by presetting the options for installation in a response file. The customized installer is then ready for silent unattended installation by end users. ! sample batch file "Install.bat" is located in the directory with the customized printing system installer. It can be used as is or modified with run time customizations e#plained later in this document. ! log file is written to the Windows$ directory when customized printing system installer is created. The Windows$ directory is the directory where Windows was originally installed on the system. The log file is the shortened name of the product with an .ini file e#tension. %or e#ample& hpl'((((.ini or hpd'((((.ini where (((( is the )P product number. The same log file is created on the end user"s system when they install using the customized printing system installer. *og files are in +nglish only. %$&E& This application uses ,ersion -.. of the /icrosoft Windows Installer. If your system does not ha0e 0ersion -.. installed you must restart your system after running this application. To chec1 the 0ersion number run msie#ec.e#e in the Windows$2system directory. +nd users who install the customized printing system installer must also restart their computers if they do not ha0e 0ersion -.. of the /icrosoft Windows Installer. II( P E'E#EC&A*#E $P&I$%' The Printing System Installer Customization Wizard describes the options that can be preselected during creation of the customized installer. 4These items can also be changed each time the customized printing system installer is run by changing the settings in the response file. %$&E& ,alidation of 0alues does not occur during customization. This enables a networ1 administrator to create the installer without re@uiring that the end user be on the same networ1 or en0ironment as the administrator. III( I%'&A##A&I$% 'E&&I%+' This section pro0ides details for changing installation settings at run time. *A&CH,"I#E C$!!A%D,#I%E 'E&&I%+' When you perform a customized installation of the printing system the batch file is created in the same directory as the customized printing system installer. If left unmodified it is automatically used during a custom installation to install the printing system with default settings. The file name of the batch file is install.bat. The file can either be used to install the customized printing system installer using default settings or settings can be modified as described below. The install.bat file contains the following command line& setup.e#e <s <*(((( <0A<@n B+SP:;S+CDresponse fileEA These settings can be modified and commands may be added or remo0ed from the command line. +ach forward slash 5<6 mar1s the beginning of a new setting within the command line. The settings must appear e#actly in the order shown in the e#ample abo0e. >ialog bo#es appear on the screen to accommodate reboot messages and to as1 the user to connect the printer. The settings and their functions are described below. start <W!IT setup.e#e <w 8se this setting to force the Setup.e#e to wait until the installation is complete before e#iting. %or e#ample& start <W!IT setup.e#e <w <s <*(((( <0A<@n B+SP:;S+Cresponse.iniA <s This setting runs setup.e#e silently. <*(((( This setting displays dialogs in the correct language 5where (((( is the language I>6. %$&E& The ne#t two command7line settings are mutually e#clusi0e 7 that is one or the other can be in the command line but not both. <0A<@n B+SP:;S+CDresponse fileEA This setting sets the user interface 58I6 mode to silent. When the 8I mode is silent no reboot dialog appears and rebooting occurs automatically if the system re@uires it. +0en when the setting is in effect howe0er a connect7printer dialog bo# may appear if necessary. >o not include spaces in the response file name. %or e#ample setup.e#e <s <*1.FF <0A<@n B+SP:;S+Cresponse.iniA <0A<@bG B+SP:;S+CDresponse fileEA This setting shows a progress bar without a cancel button a reboot dialog 5only if system re@uires it6 and any error messages that occur. e-oot Dialog. >epending on the components selected and whether the end user"s operating system has /icrosoft Windows Installer 0ersion -.. already installed the end user"s system may need to be restarted. If necessary the system is restarted at the end of the installation.

E'P$%'E "I#E 'E&&I%+' The printing system installer can be customized by changing settings in the response file. ! response file named response.ini is located in the directory where the customized installer created was created. The installer uses the settings found under the HInstaller SettingsI HPort SettingsI and H%eaturesI tags. The H)+*P7*ong%eature;amesI tag is pro0ided to help you determine which short feature name under H%eaturesI to set. The settings must not be combined in a single lineJ rather each setting occupies a line. %or e#ample& HInstaller SettingsI /:>+*C)P *aserKet (((( or ;!/+C)P *aserKet (((( where (((( is the )P product number. S+TTI;LC0alue The "setting" should be in uppercase. The "0alue" is case7sensiti0e. The setting is followed by an e@ual sign and then the 0alue with no space on either side of the e@ual sign. %$&E& These settings are written to the response.ini file when the customized installer is created. Mou can change the 0alues but do not change the S+TTI;L names. They are specific to each product. The response file uses the following synta# for the settings&

Existing Client Ports ;WNP!T)CDSer0er;ameStringE where DSer0er;ameStringE is the string to use for the ser0er path. %or e#ample& ;WNP!T)C22/ySer0er2!CT )P*K(((( or ;WNP!T)C22/ySer0er2!CT )P>K(((( where (((( is the )P product number. Local Ports %or a connection to a parallel port you can use& P:BTC*PT1&

:ther 0alid settings are the *PT ports that the system supports usually "*PT-&" and "*PTF&". %or a connection to a 8S9 port use& P:BTC8S9 %or a connection to another direct port use& P:BTCC:/1& :ther 0alid settings are the other ports that the system supports such as "C:/-&" "C:/F&" and "%I*+&". New TCP/IP and IPX network ports %$&E& Mou need to o0erride only the settings that change for each install. First specify the type of networ1 port you want to create& ;WNP:BTCIP ;WNP:BTCIP= 5to setup a new TCP<IP port6 5to setup a new IP= port6

Second use one of the following settings to specify how to identify the de0ice. The printer configuration 5test6 page should ha0e these 0alues. 3 3 IPCDip addressE where Dip addressE is the TCP<IP address of the de0ice in the F.F.F.F TCP<IP format IPN):STCDip hostnameE where Dip hostnameE is the IP hostname of the de0ice6. %or e#ample& "printer1.mycompany.com" %$&E& 9e sure to include the "mycompany.com" portion of the hostname. 3 3 IP=CDip# addressE where Dip# addressE is the IP= address of the de0ice in the 8.1- ip# format6 )WCDhardware addressE where Dhardware addressE consists of the 1- alphanumeric characters of the de0ice"s hardware address Third if you want to configure a new or reset Ketdirect port you must be searching by )ardware address 5abo0e6. Mou must also set the following three settings. 5These settings are ignored if the Ketdirect de0ice is already configured.6 3 3 3 IPCDip addressE where Dip addressE is the F.F.F.F format6 IPNS89;+TCDip addressE IPNL!T+W!MCDip addressE

The two settings that follow are not needed by most TCP<IP users. If your system re@uires a S;/P Community ;ame or Ketdirect password enter them in these settings. These settings probably do not need to change if you ha0e already set them in the installer. 3 3 S;/PCDS;/PStringE where DS;/PString E is the string for the S;/P community name. K>P!SSCDPasswordE where DPassword E is the string for the Ketdirect password.

Fourth choose either to use a default port name or specify a port name. The default port name is the printer model with a uni@ue copy number appended. If you choose to use the default port name use& 3 >+%NP:BTCM 5use the default port name6 If you choose >+%NP:BTCM then you do not need to enter a port name. If howe0er you choose to specify a port name use& 3 3 >+%NP:BTC; 5specify the port name using P:BT;!/+6 and set a port name using the following& P:BT;!/+CDPort;ameStringE where DPort;ameString E is the string to use for the port name6 The port name cannot contain spaces or be longer than OF characters. &.e /Installer 'ettings0 tag Installer settings that can be changed are& 3 3 3 3 3 3 /odel Printer name >efault printer Printer sharing Printer location Printer comment

Printer name The printer name is used to identify the printer in the printers folder 5not used with an e#isting client port6. 3 ;!/+CDPrinter;ameStringE where DPrinter;ameStringE is the string to use for the printer name. %or e#ample& ;!/+C)P *aserKet ((((7PC*Pe or ;!/+Chp des1'et ((((77(((( where (((( is the )P product number. The printer name must be uni@ue for the computer to which the printer is being installed. Default Printer The >efault printer is used to set this printer as the default printer in the printers folder 5not used with an e#isting client port6. 3 3 >+%!8*TNPBI;T+BC; >+%!8*TNPBI;T+BCM 5>on"t set as default printer6 5Set as default printer6

If >+%!8*TNPBI;T+BCM then you should set the dri0er that is to be the default.

Printer s aring Printer sharing 5only 0alid on Windows ;T?.. -... and =P6 is used to offer the printer as a shared resource to other networ1 users. 5Sharing is not used with an e#isting client port.6 3 3 3 S)!B+>C; S)!B+>CM 5;ot shared6 5Share using S)!B+;!/+6

If you use S)!B+>CM set the share name using& S)!B+;!/+CDShare;ameStringE where DShare;ameStringE is the string to use for the share name. %or e#ample& S)!B+;!/+C)P *aserKet ((((7PC*O or S)!B+;!/+Chp des1'et ((((7(((( where (((( is the )P product number. The share name must be uni@ue for the computer to which the printer is installed. %$&E& If only one dri0er is to be installed the share name should not e#ceed 1- characters in order to allow Windows QP Q8 and /e clients to access it. If more than one dri0er is to be installed a share is created for each dri0er by appending the dri0er name to the share name 5for e#ample )P*K((((7PC*P or )P>K((((7(((( where (((( is the )P product number6. In this case the share name should not e#ceed R characters to allow Windows QP Q8 and /e clients to access it. 3 3 ,+;>NQ=CM ,+;>N;TCM Install dri0ers for Windows QP<Q8</e clients. Install dri0ers for Windows ;T?.. clients.
