Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter

Week in Review: April 14-17

Forms that went home this week: o V Sound Connections sheet (white) o Earth Day note (pink) also attached to the end of this newsletter o Recycled treasure note (yellow) o Music Monday permission form (grey) What a busy week!!! Both groups spent time learning and exploring in the fort area outside. Students are learning to be aware and prepared when climbing, and its amazing to see the kids work cooperatively as a team! We started learning about seeds. Students showcased their prior knowledge in their discovery journal and asked some questions that will guide our learning. Everyone helped plant beans, flowers and carrots in Mrs. Burgess room. Ask us about the different environments we will be putting the plants in (i.e. sunny/dark spot, watered/dry). Students finished their bunny counting books and are ready to read these with their reading buddies and at home! We worked through 4 Easter themed math stations this week: Egg Hunt (to discover a number of objects inside), Pattern Block Bunnies (building with pattern blocks), Easter Shape Count (sorting shapes by colour and counting) and Worms in a Nest (fine motor activity). Ask your child to explain these stations to you! We have started doing SMART Sound Connections writing as of last week. Your child will bring them home each week. Ask them to tell you about their story using the sound of the week. In anticipation of Earth week, this weeks journal prompt was I can be an Earth friend by Ask your child how they decided they could help out. We finished sanding our walking sticks for our Earth Day walk to Rotary Park. Many of our students worked really hard on these and should be proud of their efforts! It was the Blue groups turn for an Easter egg hunt at Garden View Village this week. Check out our blog for more details and a few pictures! We worked on a group art project involving painted circles. All of the K students and many of our senior friends will have a circle to contribute to the art project.
