DETAILED EXPLANATIO N
This image is a picture of a crossbow. A crossbow was a favorite weapon of the Han people. A crossbow is made of two pieces of wood in the shape of a cross. A string is attached to each end of the vertical piece. This string is pulled back in order to shoot an arrow from the crossbow. The Han also had a very large army that had about 1 !"!!! to !!"!!! men" all of the ages between #$%&!. This army was very powerful because of the new technologies the Han had made. That is why a crossbow relates to the warfare in the Han dynasty.

This is an image of a slave bowing down to the king/ government officials. )uring the Han dynasty" the government of *hina was a bureaucracy. A bureaucracy is a form of government that is structured like a pyramid" with a few people at the top and many people at the bottom. The top Han officials lived in the capital and gave advice to the emperors. +ower% level officials lived throughout the empire. Their responsibilities included checking roads and canals. They had to make sure that there was enough grain produced and stored in case if a famine occurred. *ivil servants were hired based on their ability and knowledge" not on their social status. That is how my image relates to the government in the Han dynasty. This is a picture of a chain pump. A chain pump was an invention that helped many farmers during the Han dynasty. The chain pump was very helpful because it made it easier to move water from low irrigation ditches up to the fields. Workers used pedals to turn a wheel" which pulled a series of wooden planks. This is thought to rebalance the forces of yin and yang. Acupuncture is thought to be useful for curing illnesses that strike 5uickly" such as headaches. The ancient *hinese believed that illnesses happened when the forces of the yin and yang in the body were out of balance. That is how acupuncture relates to medicine in the Han dynasty.

This is a picture of a magnetic compass. A magnetic compass in an instrument for determining direction. The *hinese believed that it was important to place temples" graves" and homes in the correct position for luck. 6y the #!!7s *.8." they understood that a lodestone tends to align itself in a north% south direction because of 8arth7s magnetism. With this knowledge" they used lodestones to make compasses. The lodestone was carved into the shape of a spoon with a handle that would always point south. That is how a compass relates to the science of the Han dynasty.
