AGENDA For the post of General Secretary, Welfare Board

If elected as the General Secretary, Welfare Board, I propose to undertake the following initiatives:

IIT GUWAHATI HOSPITAL & MEDICAL POLICY In view of the immense difficulty faced by members of the IIT-G community in transactions with the IITG Hospital, I propose the complete computerization of records and accounts of the hospital, integrated with the webmail of the people. The portal developed will also have a feedback mechanism, appointment booking facility, along with the complete details, qualifications and working hours of the medical staff of the Hospital. SESSION REGISTRATION To ease the registration process of students for successive sessions, I propose to increase the number of days of registration session to two, and a reduction in the penalty for late registration to a more reasonable amount.

CAMPUS LITERACY PROGRAM I aspire to achieve 100% Campus Literacy for IIT-Guwahati through identification of illiterate and semi-literate of the working class of IITGuwahati, including mess/canteen workers, security personnel and laborers, and integrating it with the existing Zero Illiteracy Zone (ZIZ) program underway through the Social Club.

PROGRAMME FOR PLACEMENT TRAINING To equip the students of the campus with essential skills for placement, I aspire to organize regular training programs for improving skills in Group Discussions, Personal interviews, General Aptitude, Coding etc., in association with the Placement Team, by inviting companies and experts in the respective fields.

TOASTMASTERS- IITG GUWAHATI CHAPTER I propose the setup of the Toastmasters chapter in IIT-Guwahati, an organization aimed at improving speaking and leadership skills of people through regular group sessions, which will go a long way in improving the personality of campus community. UDBHAV In continuation of the legacy of the Udbhav, a series of talks, events, workshops and competitions aimed at the welfare of the campus, I wish to introduce inter hostel GC events as part of Udbhav, to inculcate a culture of student involvement, competitive spirit and overall sensitization of the campus community towards ventures of campus welfare. The GC events may include events like Energy Saving, Hostel Cleanliness, Paper Collection, Food Saving, Paper Presentation on green issues and competitions for finding innovative, technological solutions to common problems of the campus, and world in general. COUNSELLLING CLUB With the view of expanding the horizon of the activities of the counselling club, I propose a dedicated outreach program to reach out to the members of the campus community, including ventures like a portal for reporting yours or your friends problems anonymously. I propose the appointment of additional counsellors, with the expertise in dealing with cases of sexual harassment, and cases related to stigmatization of the LGBT community.

INTERACTION CLUB
MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

I propose to increase the number of collective meetings of mentors and first year students, especially before periods like mid and end semester examinations. These sessions will feature talks by mentors on their experiences in the institute and during interns, as well as experiences of the freshers to facilitate interaction.
SESSIONS WITH COURSE INSTRUCTORS

In order to bridge the communication gap between students and instructors, I propose to organize timely chat sessions between them, especially for first year students, with the aim of building a strong academic foundation.
UG-PG INTERACTION

In order to promote interaction between under graduate and post graduate communities, I propose to organize collaborative academic activities, in addition to the sports and cultural activities already underway, to promote sharing of wisdom and technical expertise between them. The activities could include collaborative paper presentation competitions, during festivals like TechEvince. SOCIALS CLUB In addition to continuing a myriad of activities and ventures already introduced as a part of socials club, like ZIZ, Cleanliness, Cloth Collection, Paper Collection and Plantation Drives, Blood Donation Camp, I will vie to introduce internship opportunities in NGOs to encourage students to take welfare of the society as a career path.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT CLUB I propose to introduce regular, weekly self-defense/martial arts classes to empower the students of the campus and organize timely drug and alcohol de-addiction camps, which could also be made compulsory for students identified of the menace of alcohol addiction. ONLINE SUGGESTIONS PORTAL I envisage the formation of an online suggestions and feedback portal for the Welfare Board in particular, and the Gymkhana in general to stay in touch with problems of the students of the campus. DEALING WITH CASES OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT In recognition of the deeply embarrassing and unfortunate occurrence of a case of sexual harassment in the previous session, I hope to play my part in preventing such cases in the future, by organizing workshops on sensitization towards the boundaries at the workplace and to encourage reporting of such cases. The anonymous problems portal will also play a role in this direction. PG HOSTEL ISSUES I would also like to indicate my deep resolve to play an active role in resolving the numerous living issues present in the hostels being inhabited by the members of PG community, including Dibang hostel. RAGGING ISSUES I propose formation of concrete rules in relation to Students Disciplinary Action, and an overall rehabilitative approach towards the students accused of such an offence, so that can be given a chance to improve upon their actions.

CAMPUS BUS FACILITY I propose the installation of GPS devices in the busses operating inside and outside the campus. Further a mobile app will be created to inform the passengers about the position of the bus, the bus schedule and the contacts of the bus drivers.
