OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to:

• List out Sultan Bolkiah’s achievement.

• State ways how Sultan Bolkiah helped to spread


Islam.

• Identify by drawing a map showing places


conquered by Sultan Bolkiah.
MATERIALS
• Picture of Sultan Bolkiah’s tombstone.

PROCEDURE (Students will work in teams / groups)

Step 1: Show picture of Sultan Bolkiah’s tombstone


and Map of Brunei’s Empire in the 16th century.

Step 2: Explain the achievements of Sultan Bolkiah.

Step 3: Distribute worksheets containing


questionnaires based on textbook:

(a) Who is Sultan Bolkiah?


(b) When did Sultan Bolkiah rule Brunei?
(c) Why was the reign known as the ‘Golden
Age’?
(d) **Why was Sultan Bolkiah well known as
the “Singing Captain” (Nakhoda Ragam)?
(e) List down ONE achievement of Sultan
Bolkiah?
(f) How did Sultan Bolkiah help to spread
Islam?
(g) Where was Sultan Bolkiah buried?

ASSESSMENT (*HOMEWORK)

Draw a map of Brunei’s empire in the 16th century.


Name and locate areas/places conquered by Sultan
Bolkiah.

• Teacher prepares script or text on how Sultan Bolkiah


captured territories which later became Islamic
Empire. Emphasizing on:

(a) Areas captured by Sultan Bolkiah


(b) Why he was called the “Singing Captain”
(c) How he died
(d) Where he was buried with his wife

• All students must participate. Each student has


his/her own role.

• Students may come up with their own costumes to


make the role-play more interesting and enjoyable.

• Teacher should take video of the play as a resource to


show to other classes.

OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to:

• List out Sultan Muhammad Hassan’s achievements.

• State ways how Sultan Muhammad Hassan help to


spread Islam.

• Understand about the First Written Code of Law.

PROCEDURE (Students to work in groups)

Step 1: Browse through net on Sultan Muhammad


Hassan (Http://en.Wikipedia.org/Wiki/Sultan
Muhammad Hassan) for about 20 minutes.
Students are expected to note down important
facts.

Step 2: Students are given extra handouts on Sultan


Muhammad Hassan. Based on their findings,
each group are to prepare 3 questions.

Step 3: Each group are then to come forward and


present the questions to other groups to
answer. The teacher will jot down marks for
each group. Group which answers the most
questions will be given token.

ASSESSMENT (*HOMEWORK)

Students are asked to write a short essay about Sultan


Muhammad Hassan by giving information as below:
(a) Name
(b) Years in Power
(c) Role (Sultan)
(d) His achievements
(e) Other important facts about his rule.
