end of the spool. See that the worcl

Then remove the adhesive strip which
enci rcl es the spool , draw the protecti ve
paper over both rol l ers and thread i t i nto
the longer slot in the empty spool in the
other lilm chamber.

Then close the bach: Continue turning the
winding-key and watch the little red w-in-

few turns a warnittg hand will appear

go on turning slow-ly until you
see figure L in the centre of the r,vindow
(F-ig. 7). The camera is now reacly for the
first picture.

Immediately after making each picture
wind on the film until the next number
comes into position. You will find it a
good plan to form this habit right at the
start; it will save you from accidentally
making two pictures on the piece of film,

To open the
"Kodak
Vollenda 620", press
button (4), where upon the baseboard of

the camera springs out. Pull it out as far
as it will come until the catch (7) clicks
into position. The camera is now ready
to make the tirst exposure.

FOCUSING.
The lens mount ist provided with a dis-
tance scale divided into meters. The dis-
tance of the subject from the camera co.n
be measured or estimated. If

the subj ect to be at a di stance of,. for
i nstance, 3 metres, turn the l ens mount
until the figure 3 comes underneath the
red i ndi cator. The mark

beyond.

rel eases the shutter about I0-I2 seconds

It i s recommended that as far as the l i ght
condi ti ons and sensi ti vi ty of the negati ve
materi al permi t to use medi um stops (8
or 11), i n order t o compensat e f or possi bl e
errors i n esti mati ng di stances. The smal l -
er the stop, the l ess the amount of l i ght
stri ki ng the fi l m, and the greater the depth
of focus. Therefore, use as smal l a stop
as the l i ght permi ts, i n order to obtai n the
sharpest pi ctures. The l arger stops, 4,5
and 5,6 arc to be used rvhen the l i ght i s
bad and when fast shutter speeds have to
be used (as, for exampl e, i n sports pi c-
t ures).

also be used for taking pictures of moving
objects. Hold the camera in an upright or
horizontal position close to the eye. What
you see enclosed in the front
"frame"
of
the finder will appear in the finished pic-
ture.
ALWAYS HOLD THE CAMERA LEVEL.
If everything you want to take is not
visible in the finder, moYe back a few
paces until you can see it all, with the
camera held level. If the camera is point-
ed up or down, the distorted effect shewn
in Fig, Li results.
HOW TO CLOSE THE

To close the camerr, press the release (7)
situated below the lens at the front end of
the base-board (Fig. L4), and at the same

TAKING OUT THE FILM
After exposi ng the l ast pi cture turn the
winding key until the end of the protec-
ti ve paper passes the red wi ndow. Then
open the back of the camera. If possi bl e,

avoid taking out the film in direct sun-
light. Put the spool of exposed film back
in its original packing to keep it safe.
The film is now ready for development.

TIME EXPOSURES.
I' -or time exposrlres always place
the
cel rnera on a fi rm support; i t i s best to
rrse a tripod. The
"Kodak
Vollenda 620,,
has two tri pod sockets: the one (g)
si tuated
nt the base-board
i s cl osed by a screw to
prevent
dust from enterit g. This screw
can be taken out and rei nserted by nreans
of a coi n. If the camera i s pl aced
on a
tabl e for verti cal ti me exposures, pul l out
the time-strut (6) . Take care that the
camera i s near the edge of the tabl e, other-

POINTS TO REMEMBER.
Bef ore taking pictures practise workittg
the shutter, focusittg and holding the
camera. Before making an exposure make
sure that the shutter is set and the lens
correctly focused. When making the ex-
posure, hold the camera level and still.
The us,e of the cable release helps you to
avoid
jarring
the camera; it should be
used for time exposures as far as possible.
It is important to keep the lens clean.
If the lens becomes misty in winter when
taken into a warm room, wait a few
minutes until the lens has become clear
again before starting to take a picture.
Generally you should stand so that the
sun is at your back or orrer your shoulder.
It is also possible to take pictures with
