Why Laurene Powell Jobs Supports Immigration Reform Immigration reform is an issue that really hits home for

Laurene Powell Jobs. T hat's because of her time with College Track, the company that she founded to pr ovide educational support to students in the East Palo Alto area of California. What Laurene Powell Jobs found working with students there, was that many were c hildren of illegal immigrants. Some of them having several members of their fam ily that lived in this country, and many of them lacking the necessary education or financial support to continue their education. In fact, East Palo Alto had a major problem with high school graduation because of that support. Many students either weren't graduating outright, or were find ing difficulty getting into a college once they did graduate. But since 1997, Laurene Powell Jobs and College Track have been working with fam ilies to provide them with long term support. Providing both supplies and couns eling to students in need, so that they have the necessary tools to take them th rough high school. Plus the resources necessary to get them into a good college , and keep them going until they graduate. Finding so many students that could have their families ripped apart if anybody found out inspired Laurene Powell Jobs to seek for more immigration reform. Tha t's why she's become such a vocal supporter of the DREAM Act. The immigration process needs to be more streamlined, and there needs to be more forgiveness for those immigrants that are already a part of America. America i s a nation of immigrants, and the vast majority of the population are not natura l born Americans, but rather the descendants of immigrants. Knowing that is the inspiration for Laurene Powell Jobs to afford the same oppor tunities to today's immigrants, as were given to those that immigrated to Americ a in the past. There are too many fences, and not enough opportunities. Laurene Powell Jobs is also taking the fight to others with her Emerson Collecti ve organization. This is a website dedicated to both educational reform, and im migration reform. They report on events that correspond to both issues, and als o make the argument for why reform is a necessity when it comes to both. Emerson Collective is all about empowering youths to promote real change in thei r communities. Change that will be positive for the future of America, and that will help immigrants take up their rightful places as American citizens that ar e able to remain here and contribute something positive to our society.
