Lesson Title: Twister on Tuesday Reader Response Technology Integrated Unit

Stage 1 Desired Results


ISTE Standard 2. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers: A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners. ELACC2RL1: Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. ELACC2W6: With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.

Understandings
Students will understand that: 1. Understanding the characters actions will help understand the plot. 2. Character actions and plot occurs in a time sequence. 3. The weather effects our daily lives. Overarching Questions: What are characters? What is plot? What is weather? Students will: 1. Use a level text to read and comprehend. 2. Use text to create portfolio of online assessments. Related misconceptions: I dont have to remember what I read. Characters and plot are not important The weather is the same everywhere on Earth.

Essential Questions
Topical Questions: Who are the characters in our story? How does their actions contribute to plot? How does the weather play a part in this story?

Knowledge and Skills


Students will be able to: Explain character actions and plot details. Explain how weather changes and how it effects our daily lives.

Stage 2 - Evidence
Activity 1 - Students will create a letter making predictions about the book. Activity 2 Will participate in a class blog detailing ideas and thoughts about our weather. Activity 3 Students will create a timeline detailing the sequence of the story. Activity 4 Students will create a poster to gain others attention for the book. Activity 5 Students will prepare a character map using details from the book.

Stage 3 Learning Experiences


Students will complete these activities during literature circles. Teacher will check in/check up with the

group daily for clarification on what stage they are at as well as answer any questions. Students will not be on the same page or activity at the same time. However, since like readers are grouped together they should be close. Students will use the wiki to understand their assignment. Assignment instructions are detailed as well as how to notify the teacher once the assignment is completed. Please expect for this unit to take up to 2 weeks. This unit can be modified to fit other books based on the reading level of the group.
