The Assessment for Learning Policy draft was read through and polished with final edits (wordsmithing) to come for next meeting. A Grading and HW Policy were outlined on the Google doc with much work to do. A working group got together to plan out a HW Workshop for the next Teacher-led Learning day (Oct. 23). They created an outline and plan of action for the WS and will use next WSI time (Oct. 9) to complete the planning. Another WS theme was proposed: Assessment for Learning. Brian has a WS leaders book on this to guide us and we can strike a working group to plan and present the WS at the next meeting. Vision statement checked and now final. Belief statements were completed and will be reviewed next session. A definition service learning was included. Referred to standards

The general assessment statement was worked on and it was felt that it was (and could afford to be) a more philosophical statement while the hw and grading policies needed to have more of a policy edge. The HW Workshop folks came up with a sequence for the Workshop and developed a number of scenarios for discussion. Brian and Lexie went off to develop an outline of a workshop for the Nov. 13 half-day teacher-led learning sessions that would act as a roundtable discussion on formative assessment. During the Nov. 6th PD time focused on WSIs we should come having looked at and added edits to the philosophy/policy docs mentioned above. Brian and Lexie will hopefully share their ideas for the Nov. 13th workshop so we can come prepared to discuss it and prepare it for the following week. Three participants present (Robert, Patrick and Kathy) reviewed the belief statements and concurred that these ideas are in alignment with the Lincoln School core values and vision / mission statement and officially and with consensus adopted the

from NYLC, which are to read before the next meeting and we will look at how they fit in with our vision and belief statements.

National Youth Leadership Councils Service Learning Standards for Quality Practice. Next Steps : A suggestion was made to now adapt and adopt these standards according to the needs of elementary, middle, and high school programs. Completed the skill set for all sections of the school. These skills were scaffolded according to the target grades for PBL-5th, 8th,10th, 12th. A framework/template for PBL creation was outlined and will be reviewed by the committee. This is in process of being compiled and presented a more formulaic way so that teachers who want to try a PBL can have some greater direction and guidance.

The description of the goal of PBL is quite similar to the IB Primary years Program Exhibition in grade 5. Looking at this and the grade 8 project may be helpful. These have been in development for 20 years. Last meeting, we have affirmed the statement of purpose and moved forward by attempting to define a clear skill set. Investigation on these main skills was completed/amassed, and now we will extrapolate the main skills and scaffold them along the grades 5-12, working towards complete PBL independence by the time they are in 12th grade. When this is complete, we may try to create a database of PBL ideas that have worked. With this, teachers should have all of the necessary information to proceed with PBL in their classrooms. Where should we be putting this for common access and information sharing?
