Dear Local 420 Members,

We continue to swipe into hostile working environments and below average building conditions. Some staff and students are exposed to mold and other unacceptable conditions. Why? I have a clue as to why. The people that were hired to speak on OUR behalf have become complacent, and full of GREED to move on a call of action. Dont you think you deserve the best representation possible? I do. Its time to rally our membership and encourage unity, fair change and most important RESPECT! We need a slate that will stand up against corruption and hold people accountable. Yes, we are the Right Team for the Right Time. She claims she tried to keep what's best for Local 420 members as her number one priority. If this were true, why would she write a letter of apology? Enough with the chances, we have given her too many. She has expressed that she sorry, we know she is. Unfortunately its time to move on. Time to allow another administration to increase their knowledge and experience, only this time, implement and enforce action. We are aware that our contract with the district expires on June 30th of this year. We, too, are concerned about who sits across the table from the districts negotiation team. We are well aware of her self-proclaimed record as a strong negotiator. We will follow the constitution and bylaws and select a nine member negotiating team (with approval from the Executive Board.) This team will request membership views and interest in anything relating to employment. This will be done through the use of surveys, questionnaires, or other tools. All information gathered will be presented to the Executive Board and form the basis for non-negotiable/negotiations with St. Louis Public Schools. We know that the state audit revealed that the district had a $15 million dollar budget surplus. Knowing this, how is it that she could only negotiate a one-time only stipend for certificated staff and even less of a stipend for non-certificated staff? As far as experience with the legislature, she failed to stop the district from strategically engineering the successful repeal of Missouri State Statute 168.291 and others, through the legislature. If you were not aware, this State Statue protected the seniority rights of Non-certificated staff and possibly certificated staff. How does someone with so much experience, produce so little? Given a person who boast all of these qualities, she has certainly come up short at the negotiation table. Looks like someone needs to enroll in Negotiations 101.

Advocacy, fair change and a stronger union is my goal, you can help me help you by voting on Wednesday May 14th, Thursday May 15th, & Saturday May 17th @ Local 420 at 2710 Hampton Ave. I promise that we will diligently work for you! Lets be the fair change you want to see, together WE can make it happen!

Respectfully yours, Sheria N. Hughley
