Universal cable with system integrity

Safety rst!
The ability of safety-related equipment such as emergency lighting, communications or emergency phone and alert systems to maintain system integrity saves lives in the event of re. Wherever large numbers of people congregate, be it in the transport area such as in airports, train stations, car tunnels, underground trains or buildings such as hotels, department stores and hospitals, the prime objective is to avoid exposure to danger and it is vital that ber optic cables maintain system integrity. Optical connections using ber optic cables must therefore be constructed with multi-layered re barriers, preventing a complete outage of the system by the destructive eect of a re.

re secured U-D(ZN)BH n
LEONI Fiber Optics oers such a cable that maintains its circuit and insulation integrity for 90 minutes. It is the specially designed re secured U-D(ZN)BH n..., a universal ber optic cable that enables safety-related systems to continue operating in the event of a re. VDE in Oenbach, an accredited testing institute, tested the cables construction to the IEC 60331-11 and 25 (maintaining circuit integrity) as well as EN 50200 (maintaining insulation integrity) standards. The cable passed these demanding tests. While meeting the criteria for acceptance under the IEC standard is already a major

challenge, the EN 50200 test also subjects the cable to mechanical vibration while exposing it to ames. This is intended to simulate the potential destruction of the cable systems by falling debris and the associated incalculable, additional mechanical strain also exerted particularly in the event of a re.

Time in minutes

The results of the re test conrm that LEONIs re secured product meets the criteria for maintaining circuit and insulation integrity for a period of 90 minutes in the event of re.
