Our Friends on the Road

-A poem by Drishti Makhyani, VII
On road we should never play, This is what the rules say. Zebra crossing is the safest way, To cross the road on any day. Riding a scooter is so much fun, Whether in rain or hot sun, But without a helmet its not done. A seat belt hugs us tight, Never lets in a moment of fright. Rules say it is always right, Use it in day as well as night.

Safer road, safer life.

-An article by Nikhil Chhabra Life is a pleasant journey, over speeding might cut it short Roads which take us to our destination can take us to death too, if we arent careful. The need of the hour is to inculcate safe road habits among vehicles, drivers and pedestrians.

As the roads are very busy nowadays, we should be very careful while crossing. It is safer to use a zebra crossing, especially made for the pedestrians. Some of us take the bus to school. It is important that we do not try to get on or off a bus while it is still moving. Also we must not fool around while in the bus. A sudden lurch can send us knocking our heads against something hard.

Rash and drunken driving leads to accidents. Speeding beyond the prescribed limits is the main cause. Some drivers not only cross the speed limit but also drive recklessly. These problems can be overcome with strict enforcement of traffic rules to those who flaunt the law. The offenders must be caught and fined. Awareness campaigns on safe driving should be carried out everywhere. As the youth, the future of the nation lies in our hands. Thus we should sensitize people and encourage them to take up road safety and follow all traffic rules religiously. It is therefore rightly said, Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow .

Road Safety
-A poem by Meghna Deb
Ill describe a few fools, Who dont obey the road safety rules. Oh these rules, I cant bear These boards are put up everywhere When they say Oh I dont care. We must tell them Dont you dare. Dont be a fool, Road safety is cool. So make that your rule, Dont skip the red light, Follow these and youll do right. Follow them and as a responsible citizen you will win, And the world will be a better place to live in.

Road Pollution
-A poem by Tripti Arora
Road Pollution, Road pollution, When will we ever find a solution? Litter on the roads, litter on the streets, Mother Earth is whom we cheat . Why dont you consider roads your second home? Keep them clean and brightly shone. The roads take you far and wide, Make them the nations pride. For if you do not treat them well, The road accidents will definitely swell.

All his fault -An article by Ashima Makhija

Rita is a pedestrian walking on the busy roads of Delhi. She has to cross one of these roads. There is a zebra crossing about fifteen footsteps away from her but why should she bother? After all, for her, traffic rules were nothing more than balderdash. The road was no less than a fish market. People would honk unnecessarily, , heavy traffic somebody shouting here and somebody there. Two people were busy arguing in the corner for one of them had bumped his car upon the latters. but even this did not affect Rita. She had her earphones plugged in and was immersed in the world of music\c and virtuality. She began crossing the roads without paying attention to the pedestrians signal, which happened to be red, or to any of the passing cars. She moved ahead and before she had even reached halfway a car whizzed passed her. Goosebumps prickled her skin. The car had passed about and inch from her. Had she been half a footstep away, she wouldve been knocked out and probably very seriously injured, since the driver knew nothing about speed limits. For a moment, she was in a complete trance. This incident pulled her back to reality and the she quickly crossed the road. In a state of bewilderment and fear she thought about what had just happened. it was all his fault, she thought, doesnt he know about speed limits and traffic rules? I was just a person walking, he should have been more attentive and careful. I couldnt have done anything to prevent this but if he hadnt minded using his senses this wouldn't have happened.

She was very eager to blame the driver for not being careful but what hadnt occurred to her was that she herself had been careless. Her actions had put herself in danger as much as the drivers had. Responsibility did not only fall to those who drove but also to those who walked the streets. Consider this situation: A careless pedestrian is running across a very congested road, not even caring to look at the traffic light. He is in a hurry, due to whatever reason. A car driving carefully, suddenly notices the pedestrian run in front of his car out of nowhere. He changes his direction abruptly so as to not hit the pedestrian. At the same time, the car behind the first driver is unable to change his direction so fast and end up banging into the first car. Both the car drivers and extremely injured. This shows that its not just the drivers who need to be careful. Also, our actions can have grievous consequences for others. Being attentive and careful always on the road is the only way to stay safe and keep others safe.

Road Safety
-An article by Nishtha Gupta

Road safety has become a major issue these days with an increasing number of drunk driving, hit and run and other cases. The safety of a person, the one driving or the one on foot depends on one another as well as themselves. Following traffic rules is a very important part of road safety for everyone. It doesnt matter if youre a pedestrian, or a cyclist, or driving a four wheeler or a three. Precaution and presence of mind are an absolute must while on the road. In the last decade, drunk driving has become very prominent. The drunk drivers endanger others as well as themselves. When an accident takes place, people often take advantage of the corrupted policemen and escape with a monetary settlement. No strict action is taken and thus these accident occur again and again. The same is with the hit and run cases. Distracted people drive recklessly and often cause damage to life and property. Cowardly acts like running away without taking responsibility for their actions is the most common solution the culprits find. People who have been hit or whose vehicles have been damaged are left in a hound of traffic to deal with consequences alone. Cheap acts like these are the reason the necessity to spread awareness arises. We all have to contribute in order to make the road of our city and country safe for everyone and ensure that there is justice.

Road Safety and Pollution

-An article by Nadya Garg

Road safety and pollution are the most discussed topics around the city. People in haste to reach their destination often dont see how rashly they drive. We have to ensure we fasten our seatbelts, while for pedestrians, they should cross using the zebra crossing and the vigilant for horns. All people travelling by road should follow the traffic rules and stop at red lights. Whereas, the pollution cannot be completely prevented, it certainly can be reduced. The primary cause for air pollution on busy roads is emission from vehicles. We can avoid air pollution but cannot put a stop to it unlike road accidents which can be prevented.

A little about Road Safety

-An article by Kamya Kalra

Were all humans; we daydream, get side tracked, run late and make mistake.
But these mistakes can lead to fatal accidents on the road. While travelling on the road, in any mode, it is absolutely necessary to be fully attentive to keep us and everybody else around us safe. Some common causes of road accidents are: Drunk driving Over taking Talking on the phone while driving Skipping red lights Ignoring signboards Changing lanes unnecessarily Not using zebra crossings

If we try our best to avoid all the above points, we would be safe from road accidents to some extent. But the other people cannot be accounted by us and therefore its necessary for everyone to follow the rules

PLEASE BE CAREFUL ON THE ROAD. YOUR CARELESNESS MIGHT COST OTHER PEOPLE THEIR LIVES, IF NOT YOUR OWN.
