Hurtful- (adjective) Causing pain to someones feelings Apology- (noun) Being able to say sorry for something you did wrong.

F. Procedure: 1. Explain to the students how saying or doing hurtful things to people can affect them in many ways. 2. Introduce new vocabulary words. 3. Call the students attention to the board. Ask the students to talk about hurtful words they have heard others say. (excluding profanity) 4. Students will write the words on their cut out pictures. 5. Teacher will then lead the class discussion towards taking-back the words using apologies. 6. Once the students come up with apologies they can erase the words from their cut outs. 7. Teacher will then point out and show that the pencil marks are not fully gone, but can be seen if you look closely. This will make the point to students that apologies are good, but do not erase all the hurt. 8. Teacher will then talk about respect and kindness with the students. The students will use a colored pencils or crayons and right positive words on their cutouts. G. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure the students understanding by constantly walking around the room through group discussion I will make sure everyone is participating by calling on different students to answer questions or voice opinions. The students will also turn in their cut out when they are finished. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know if the students understand the concepts by the students responses in the whole group class discussion. If students are off topic when answering questions I will be able to guide them in the right direction during our discussion. H. Closure: For the closure the students will take out their writing journals and write why we need to be respectful to one another. The students will also write why it is important to apologize if they hurt someones feelings.

The easiest part of this lesson will be teaching the students the new vocabulary words. Students should know the meaning of respect by now because the class has done many lessons and activities that have to do with respecting others around them. Students are also already familiar with the word apology. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of the lesson that I will need to make sure and teach is having the students understand WHY hurtful things can affect people in a negative way. I want to make sure that the students know the impact bullying and being mean it has on their peers and people around them. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I can extend on this lesson by reading the story, Angel Child, Dragon Child. The students will listen to the story and have a class discussion. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concept additionally teaching will take place. The students will come back to the kidney table and the lesson will be re-taught using books and other visuals to help the students understand. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? As of right now I dont think I need to change any part of the lesson. Once I actually teach it to the students I may need to alter or add additional information. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The assessment part was difficult for me. I wanted to make sure that it was challenging but not overwhelming for the children.
